Chapter 187 - They Started A War

When Liu Lifen married Feng Lizhao she had made sure she signed up for all the groups the other wives were members to. She had to find out about it in the worst way possible.

It was just after a few weeks after she had married Feng Lizhao and they were at a party. As usual, after making their rounds as a couple, she and her husband separated ways to join their groups of friends. That might be true for Feng Lizhao, but for Liu Lifen, she knew these people did not really see her as someone who should be married to a rich man. She was a peasant in their eyes. Some absolutely loved the late Mrs. Feng and proceeded to hate on Liu Lifen. And some of them just hated the idea of a widower to be married again so late in his life.

At the party she joined a group of females who were huddled near the one of the center tables. Liu Lifen could barely keep up with everything that they were talking about. There was a string of organization names and who made the largest contribution. Then one of the women who was sitting turned her eyes on Liu Lifen, "How much did you give?"

She was beyond clueless on what she would answer. They took her short silence as a sign.

"Are you not a member yet?" asked another with a frown on her face that was somehow telling her 'why are you listening to this conversation when you're not a part of it?'.

The woman beside her placed a hand on her arm. "Liu Lifen is new to these things. Don't worry, I'll give you a list of the charities and maybe you could think about joining some of them."

She caught all the scornful looks the wives had given her. The morning after that, Liu Lifen applied to all of them and topped each contribution in each charity. She casually slipped her tea in her humongous house while the charities made posts on social media about her, telling how grateful they were. When some of the events came, they presented her certificates.

Who would've thought that something good would come out of a bad feud between wives who was more than willing to throw their husbands' money just to be above each other?

It was the form of entertainment of these bored housewives. Gossip, making up fake news, mentioning their successful children every other five minutes, be obsessed with decorating and renovating the house, go on vacations, stress and control their children's lives and finally, the charities.

To be honest, Liu Lifen had been against this kind of life. For the first few months of her marriage, she had tried to be part of the family business but it was just too much for her. Just looking at the numbers and the pile of things to do, she realized she would just rather stay in bed. After quitting trying to work, she found that she was doing exactly the same thing as the other women in her status.

Now the only thing left to do was to be good at it.

Golden Hearts Charity was the biggest among the groups that she had joined. It mainly contributed to mothers who cannot support their children and investing in young promising scholars by paying to send them to prestigious universities. At the side, it was also involved with orphanages and homeless shelters. Once in a while, it would make contributions to hospitals.

If you're one of the top givers in this organization, you'll surely find your name everywhere. Liu Lifen was on the move to make herself the new chairwoman when the elections come. Feng Lizhao gave her a spending allowance each month, she hardly touched that nowadays as she intended for the rest of it to be given to the charity.

Today, she skipped spa as this impromptu event was held. She had received her invite via email and she immediately RSVP'd. Everyone was as clueless as her as they didn't know who called this meeting. Something like this only happened when a member wanted a spotlight to how much money they are going to give.

Liu Lifen scanned the place and walked closer the stage with a glass on her hand. But before she could even come close, she saw that it was Feng Xuan and Wang Yimin who was near the stage, holding cards for speech.

Her eyes widened. Just what were those girls thinking?!

Ever since Feng Lizhao had threathened her to not touch his precious daughter, Liu Lifen tried very hard to not be involved with any of the activites surrounding her step-daughter. She clearly stepped out of the way.

She whipped her head and marched towards her daughter. They have to know what they were up to.

Feng Xuan was just about to go up the stage when she felt a strong hand on her arm that pulled her back. She was about to glare at the person when she saw that it was Qing Chen.

"Husband!" she said and wrapped her thin arms around his neck. "I thought you got held back?"

"I told you I'd be here for the launch," he answered and grabbed a cup of tea from a passing waiter. "You don't look so good."

"I think I already had one too many cups of tea," she giggled. She was feeling a little giddy on the inside. She groaned in her mind, she might've sloshed too much alcohol in her teapot. She put her hands on Qing Chen's chest. "Wang Yimin, what do you think about men's shirts? They're too boring with their plain colors. We should make a line for them."

"I'll put that on the to-do list," answered Wang Yimin who was making notes at the margins of her cards.

"Stay there, I'll get you some water," said Qing Chen.

When Feng Xuan turned, she saw her step-sister walking towards her. "Hello there, Meilien!" she greeted with a small smile.

"Are you the speakers for today?" she asked, her pretty face glowing.

Feng Xuan was feeling friendly today so she let her in the secret. "I was just about to tell you, we're looking for a model. I didn't think you deserve to be on the catalogue. We'll put you in the commercials instead."

Liu Meilien's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

Feng Xuan locked her arms with her step-sister's. "You're going to be our brand ambasadress."

"Are you for real? Are you opening your own brand?"

"Shhh," Feng Xuan put a finger against her lips. "There's more for you in it, sister. Let's work together, hm?"

**

Liu Meilien walked back to her mother with a confused look on her face. After she saw the success of Gretel's, she was more than happy to be working with Feng Xuan. If she got to be chosen as their brand ambassadress, then it would be her first.

"They're building their own fashion brand," she told her mother as she sat down.

"But Da Xia--"

"I know, Mother," she said. "They started a war."
