Chapter 117 - WATCHED

It felt like things were starting to move really fast now. It was like time was passing me by so quickly and I was just trying to run as fast as I could to keep up. I was busy again, which was good, but it wasn't all just the stuff I wanted to do, which sucked ass.

Kyle and I started planning the wedding almost immediately with EZ's help. What this truly meant was that Kyle and EZ were planning my wedding and all I was expected to do was show up for it.

What I was focusing and worrying about was my office. They were done with the construction now. That meant that I could start moving furniture into it and getting it set up. Kyle was really good with all this business stuff. He was helping me with it all, and better yet, I got to do whatever I wanted with the place. To start out, I was setting it up as a PI and bounty office.

With Bastian and Laremy on the team and EZ running tech support we were going to be able to catch a lot more people. And, well, I didn't have to worry about hiding as much. My cousin and my pack knew where I was now and they were going to come for me when they came. There was nothing I could do for right now.

So, in the meantime I was focusing on myself and my business. Bastian and Laremy were my lap dogs for the day since EZ was busy with Kyle. They were picking out a venue for the wedding and all that other stuff.

I'm sure I will care about my wedding enough to help them with it at some point. Maybe. I just didn't know how to do all that stuff. So, what was so wrong with leaving it to someone a little more qualified. I'm sure EZ would make me do something or another at some point.

That was fine, I would help when he asked. For now I was busying myself with arranging furniture. I wasn't allowed to carry any of it because of Kyle, Damn him, he had forbidden it in front of the others and they were adamant that I was not to lift any of it, at all. I could, however, direct where it went and tell them where to put it all. In a way, I felt like a queen sitting on her throne while the peasants did their work.

When my office was being made I kept it from being too traditional and boring. For one thing, most people coming here will be looking for someone strong to settle a case. They don't want a traditional office.

For my space I chose more grayish blue for the walls than white. There were accents of sapphire blue, black, white, and even robin's egg blue. There were pillars in the large space just like there were in Kyle's space so I had them painted in the robin's egg blue before having a few gray and black stripes added and one large blue one in the middle. All of those stripes curved and went up the pillars.

My office space was the entire floor but nothing more, Kyle had several floors so his company occupied more space than mine did. I had divided the area of the floor into reception, waiting, meeting, and offices. Bastian, Laremy, EZ, and I would all have offices down the right side of the space toward the back. The waiting area was to the left, and of course they would come right up to the reception when they got off the elevator.

There were going to be meeting rooms in case we had to meet with more than one or two people at once and our offices weren't sufficient. There would also be other small desks in a communal office setting. That would be the closest to Kyle's office that mine looked. I would eventually be hiring more people and having them do grunt work and other things for me. I was branching out and expanding my operation.

And the whole reason I was doing this was for Kyle. That kind of made me pause every time I thought about it. Where did the old Jacy go? Where did the Jacy that said she didn't need or want a mate go? What happened to the woman that said she didn't need anyone?

Well, she's either gone or changed, because I don't think I could live without Kyle in my life now. He was, not so slowly, worming his way into the center of my heart. I wouldn't tell him that, not yet at least. I loved him, and he knew that. That would have to be enough for now.

"Jacy, whose desk is this?" Bastian was directing the movers who had just brought in a large and ornate desk. The way it was cut and the color alone should have told him.

"Don't you recognize EZ's desk without having to ask?" I laughed at him.

"I didn't want to assume. I thought it was his, but you never know." He grinned Whenever EZ was involved he was as happy as he could be.

"Alright, well, I am going to go get a snack. I will be back soon. If you think you know where something belongs then just put it there, we can always move it later."

"Alright,sounds good."

"Will you bring me a coffee on your way back, puhlease?" Laremy had just ran to and then leaned out of the door to his office. "I need me a fix as soon as I can get one." He was the most flamboyant next to EZ so he definitely stood out around Bastian and myself.

"Yeah, will do. Text me what you want. Do you want something too, Bastian?"

"Please." He smiled and nodded at me. "I will text my order as well." With that I left the office space and went down to the coffee shop at the corner.

It's funny, the moment I walked out of the building and onto the sidewalk I felt like someone was watching me. I am not a paranoid person by nature, I can handle myself so people can approach at their own risk. Still, it was unnerving. I never felt like this even in a city of this size.

OK, maybe I did feel like this when I first moved to the city. Every time I left my apartment back then I thought my cousin or one of his goons was following me. I was always looking over my shoulder and looking for people that weren't there.

I think those dreams are just starting to get to me. I was starting to feel like I did twelve years ago. I even caught myself looking over my shoulder once or twice and I had to literally stop myself from being so paranoid again.

The feeling didn't go away at all. I could still feel it when I walked into the coffee shop. It even felt like someone was watching me through the windows. I ignored it as best as I could as I started to order the drinks.

Laremy had asked for an iced mocha brownie supreme, he was so in sync with EZ. Bastian wanted a cocoa cappuccino, not what I expected considering how reserved he was but I guess we all have our secrets. For myself, I ordered iced black tea with ruby red grapefruit, lemon, and honey. My drink would not make Kyle yell at me, even though I would have preferred to have gotten a caffeine loaded coffee beverage.

I was hungry as well, like I had told them. So, on top of the drinks I ordered an array of muffins, croissants, cookies, and brownies. I needed some indulgence in my life, didn't I? And if no one told Kyle about the sugar overload then he would never know anything about it.

With the drinks and the food in hand I headed back toward the office, and the second I was out the door, the intensity of that feeling of being watched intensified. Only this time it felt like whoever it was had been following closer.

I stopped at the door to the building and turned to look behind me. I was looking at everyone that I could see and not a single one of them looked or even smelled familiar. I didn't know what was going on here. Why was I feeling like I was being followed?

As I was watching and looked for whoever had been behind me, someone snuck up on me.

"What are you looking at?"  I hadn't expected him and it, unfortunately, scared the shit out of me.

"Kyle you son of a bitch." I gasped and turned to face him. "What the fuck?"

"You must have been deep in thought if you didn't notice me before then. What's going on?"

"Nothing, it just felt like someone was watching me."

"Really?" He looked in the direction that I was and scanned the crowd.

"It's probably just nerves from the dreams I had a little while back."

"Yeah, maybe. Come on, let's get back inside."

He was still watching the street as he ushered me into the building. Did he actually notice something that I hadn't?

I ignored it for now and planned to talk to him about it later. At the current moment though, he was glaring at my hands.

"I smell coffee." He looked at me with a raised brow.

"That is for Laremy and Bastian." I told him as I grabbed my iced tea. "I have tea." That earned me a smile.

"Good girl." He leaned over and sipped from the cup. "That's good. Now, what are those?" He pointed to the large carryout bags.

"Rations for the troops."

"And yourself?" He laughed. "Just don't eat them all."

"I wasn't planning to, tom cat. I do know how to share." I giggled as I reached into the bag for a random cookie, when I found one I pulled it out and shoved it into his mouth.
