Chapter 61:The Prince Was A Little Pitiful

Empress Dowager Fu Rong was entrusted with the wedding preparations by Fu Yanqing. Si Yao and Si Chong also helped the Empress Dowager and made sure that she did not go overboard. Although her son still kept his distance from her after the drugging incident, handing the preparations of the wedding ceremony to her meant that he was not as angry as she thought.

This made the Empress Dowager rejoiced and she was no longer worried. She even took out some of the money from her maiden family for the wedding.

This was a few weeks before Zhao Yan and Fu Yanqing's arrival to the capital.

During the preparations, the Empress Dowager paid special attention to etiquette but also considered the fact that the bride this time would be marrying immediately to the family and that Zhao Yan was also pregnant.

People would talk if they found that an unmarried woman who was pregnant would marry into the royal family so the Empress Dowager immediately ordered the seamstress to make alterations to the wedding dress so that the bump could be hidden in all the layers.

They could not hide the pregnancy for long since Zhao Yan was already a few months into her pregnancy but atleast this would save them face during the wedding.

It stands to reason that when a man has already reached past marriageable age and was still unmarried, they would have to shorten their preparation time for marriage in order not to delay the offspring and make the bride enter the door as soon as possible.

Her son, Fu Yanqing's marriage would be one of the most shocking weddings in history because this marks the day that the so-called woman-hater of the century was finally tying the knot after years of being a sought-after bachelor with germaphobia.

Though it pains for the Empress Dowager to hear these kinds of names being attached to her son's name, even she could not turn a blind eye to his dark history when it came to all his female pursuers.

The Empress Dowager thought that because of what she did, her son would be more resentful towards the idea of marriage and that her son would take things to a new height and stay as far away as possible from all women.

To her surprise, her son brought a woman home and she was soon given the title of a soon-to-be grandmother. The Empress Dowager was finally going to hold a fat grandson after waiting for so many years.

Because of the approaching winter, Empress Dowager Fu Rong kept a careful eye on the wedding preparations more so than any other mother-in-law.

Zhao Yan already woke up early and was silently praying to her jade hairpin.

"Grandpa, your granddaughter is going to marry and become someone's wife. Grandpa, wherever you are, your granddaughter will wait for you. Your grandchild would also wait for you. May you be safe and happy wherever you are right now."

Chun Lan came inside Zhao Yan's room after knocking so many times and hearing no response. This was the sight that greeted her.

"Chun Lan, don't cry. You are even more emotional than me." Zhao Yan smiled and patted the younger girl's back. This was probably the fifth time that this has happened. Chun Lan was even more excited than Zhao Yan who was the bride-to-be.

Chun Lan no longer cared about etiquette and hugged Zhao Yan while sobbing.

"Wuuu... my lady is finally getting married. Chun Lan is so happy. Chun Lan wishes that you are also happy and that you would have a happy marriage."

Hearing this, Zhao Yan's heart was filled with warmth. "Chun Lan, that makes me glad. Thank you. I also hope that I can have a happy marriage for the sake of my child." Zhao Yan placed a hand on her stomach, caressing it fondly.

Chun Lan cried harder. How can her lady be so oblivious? Wasn't it obvious that Prince Jing likes her lady so much that he would even rush the wedding preparations just to wed her and make her his wife?

She suddenly felt that the prince was a little pitiful.

Zhao Yan who couldn't skip breakfast because of her pregnancy, ate very quickly then she was directed to a room where there were female servants and handmaidens. At Zhao Yan's arrival, they lined up in two rows, holding trays in their hands.

Both Chun Lan and Jae-Ha put on a new set of clothes, their nerves were tense but alert as they were tasked to watch their lady very carefully during the preparation and to make sure that nothing happens to her.

Empress Dowager Fu Rong was inwardly filled with excitement. Whenever the royal family held weddings, it would no doubt be sensational news that would travel far out the capital and it would be more eye-catching since the groom this time was her son, Fu Yangqing, the prince regent of Zhao Country who has been a bachelor for so many years.

From the royal family's relatives to the pillar of the imperial court, people who had names in the capital were in a dilemma at this sudden news as they all hurried to prepare many generous gifts. To think that this kind of bomb would drop on them so suddenly.

Many families were running around like headless chickens as they tried to find a suitable gift. Some of the officials with families cursed Prince Jing secretly for hiding such an important matter. They weren't even given the time to prepare bridal gifts! This would simply make them lose face!
