Chapter 60:Finally Getting Married

She was to marry tomorrow, Li Zhao Yan thought. Chun Lan was even more excited than her that the little girl couldn't stop chattering nonstop. Jae Ha remained quiet, only listening and making a few comments here and then.

"My lady, Chun Lan is very happy for you... Wuuu... You struggled so much and now you are going to marry His Highness."

"Chun Lan," Zhao Yan couldn't believe this girl was crying for something like this but she supposed that marriage is indeed a big thing.

"My lady, I'll work even harder starting today since my lady will be needing all the help she can get! As princess consort and Prince Jing's wife, my lady is bound to make it big!"

Zhao Yan wanted to tell her that she wasn't going to rely on Fu Yanqing for everything because she had grown up independently. That wouldn't just change so easily... Though she also understood that being the wife of a royal prince and the Prince Regent at that was not an easy matter.

There would be times where she would have to ask him for help since they were about to be husband and wife soon.

Later, Zhao Yan had her dinner together with Fu Yanqing and he personally fetched her and guided her to the dining hall. Luckily, it was very close and she had memorized the way.

"Your Highness, so who is our matchmaker.. our go-between?" She curiously asked since Zhao Yan remembered just now the proceedings of a wedding ceremony.

"Imperial Mother," was Fu Yanqing's answer to her as he placed more vegetables on her bowl. He didn't look like he had any plans on filling his own bowl. Zhao Yan felt flattered that he was serving her like this because it was supposed to be the woman who was responsible for serving the man.

But pregnant women were delicate and it was customary that they were exempted from many responsibilities and customs. This was a plus for Zhao Yan since this lax treatment will help her adjust and feel more comfortable.

Afterall, this place was going to be her new home.

Fu Yanqing also has a courtyard in the palace but he preferred his mansion here because it gave him more freedom. It was also very spacious, was under his full control, and had the tightest security among all the residences in the capital.

Aside from Imperial Guards, there were also Shadow Guards guarding this place to prevent an intruder from entering. Half of the servants were trained in martial arts and they were all loyal to Prince Jing.

Even when Zhao Yan arrived for the first time before while being carried by Prince Jing, the whole mansion had been very quiet and well disciplined. No one said anything against her because they all perfectly knew what kind of person Prince Jing was.

They restrained their shocked expressions and lowered their heads but when it was only them, they couldn't help but gossip and talk.

It was unbelievable how Prince Jing, the rumored woman-hater was willing to carry a woman in his arms and personally bring said woman to the second-largest courtyard in the mansion which was Bamboo Courtyard.

Everyone understood the significance of Bamboo Courtyard. Bamboo Courtyard was unoccupied for a long time. It also happens to be the nearest courtyard to Prince Jing's main courtyard which signified its importance as the residence of their future madam.

His Highness Prince Jing has also gathered them all in the main hall to announce to everyone his intentions to marry Zhao Yan.

"Li Zhao Yan. Remember that name. She will be this prince's wife. Her words are my words. Whatever she wants, everyone must obey it without question. If she wants you to kowtow, do it. If she wants you to jump and dance, do it. If she wants your head, obediently hand it. Otherwise, it is the same as going against this prince!"

Since Prince Jing himself has declared his intentions infront of them. There was simply nothing else they could do. No one would dare to protest against Prince Jing's words and they were all secretly happy inside especially the older servants that have served His Highness for years.

The aloof and cold Prince Jing who would scrub his skin raw everytime a woman touched him or any of his clothes was finally getting married!

They were all rejoicing at this news.

His Highness seems scary and indifferent at first but serving him for years has allowed them to realize that he wasn't always like that and there were times where Prince Jing was benevolent. As a dignified man, he would reward a good deed and severely punish a bad one. That was the kind of man he is. This made it seem like he was stiff and too serious.

They all thought that His Highness would grow up alone because he has never been interested in women and his dark history surrounding them was clear for all the world to see.

There was no one in Zhao Country who didn't know that Prince Jing was disgusted at women and hated polyandry. This was because these two reasons were behind the Monogamous Law that had shaken the country and trampled over hundreds of years of practices surrounding a patriarchal society. Although it was clear that there were a low population and birth rate of women in the country of Zhao, that was merely a front to hide the true reason why this law was passed on.

It was a selfish reason afterall.

And now, their Highness was going to get married after being a bachelor for so many years. They would even have a little Royal Highness in a few months.

It was a happy occasion that even the Empress Dowager herself had meticulously prepared and gave her utmost best in preparing her son's wedding. Not to mention, the Empress Dowager no longer cared about Zhao Yan's family background as long as her son was going to get married.

Any man able to captivate the heart of her son and was able to provide her sought-after grandchild would automatically be well-liked by Empress Dowager Fu Rong.

The same can be said for all the servants and guards serving under His Highness Prince Jing.
