Shannon couldn’t make up her mind, so she went to chat with Betty. Betty actually felt that she was suitable to study law.

That said, she did study law in university. It was just that she got married after graduation, and after that, she became a housewife, so all she did was stay at home obediently every day.

“If I always had my own job, I probably wouldn’t be in such a miserable state,” Shannon muttered to herself. It was only now that she realized that women should always have longer-term plans for themselves.

But now, it was too late! It would be more difficult if she wanted to start afresh.

After making up her mind to start anew, Shannon went out. She was going to tour the city, and in these last few days, remember whatever she could about this heartbreaking city.

But no matter where she went, she was reminded of the past. The beautiful memories were now like a knife that was slicing, cut after cut into her heart.

She stood by the sea, enjoying the breeze. She had once asked Max to bring her to the beach, but he had always rejected her because he said he was too busy.

Now that she had come here herself, and had seen the ocean, she had a sudden urge to walk into it. Perhaps after she went into the water, all her worries would disappear.

“Ring ring…” Just as she lifted her foot, her phone suddenly rang.

Matthew’s name flashed on her screen. She hesitated for a moment, but eventually still pressed the “Reject” button. Then, she took out her SIM card and threw it into the water. Since she was leaving, she should cut off all contact with him.

She abruptly turned and left the beach. She couldn’t die, at least not like this.

On the other end, Matthew was extremely anxious. He had gone to deliver breakfast to Shannon in the morning, but no matter how hard he knocked, there was no reply.

He immediately hired a locksmith to break the door, but there was already no sign of Shannon in the house.

All he found inside was an exquisite envelope.

‘I am extremely grateful to you for taking care of me all this time, and I cannot thank you enough. I’m saying goodbye through this letter because I want to avoid the sadness that will surely happen if we meet. All that I hope for is your wellbeing in the future.’

The handwriting on the envelope was elegant, and he knew she had left.

Matthew hurriedly opened the envelope, only to see a stack of money inside. Feeling even more frustrated, he tried to contact her, but to no avail.

He looked for Shannon in a frenzied state, but he couldn’t find any news about her.

Unfortunately, Janice received the news about her leaving. She had been clever enough to predict that Shannon would definitely find a hotel to stay in if she had nowhere to go.

“Miss Yard, what should I do? Should I chase her out of this city?” Janice’s subordinate asked her.

Janice sat in the garden, sipping her morning tea. Her gentle eyes were as calm as water, but there was a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes. Chase her out of this city?

No, that wouldn’t do. There was only one way to get rid of someone from another person’s heart, and that was if the person was dead.

“No, kill her. Do a clean job.” Janice had already made up her mind last night.

She couldn’t leave this possibility unattended. Her woman’s intuition told her that Shannon had already walked into Max’s heart.

Shannon stayed at the beach for a while before returning to the hotel. After her walk, she had already thought things through. She decided that she would find a place where she could buy a small house by the beach, and then study and live well there.

Now that she had finally made up her mind, her mood finally lifted. She purchased some items, then returned to the hotel.

“Good afternoon, Miss Zanders. This is the lunch the hotel prepared for you. Please enjoy.” Just as Shannon was about to close the door, a waiter pushed a food cart before her.

A trace of suspicion instantly surfaced in her eyes. She didn’t seem to have ordered anything.

“Miss Zanders, today is our hotel’s tenth anniversary, so we’ve prepared lunch for all our guests.” The waiter explained immediately when he saw Shannon’s doubtful expression.

Shannon was a simple-minded person, so when she heard the waiter’s explanation, she didn’t think much further, and allowed him into the room.

She didn’t have breakfast before she went out this morning, so she was really a little hungry now.

She picked up her fork and was about to eat when she heard a puppy barking outside.

Shannon couldn’t help but walk out. A dirty-looking puppy whined pitifully outside the door, and there was even a wound on its leg.

Feeling that it was very pitiful, Shannon carried it in, then took it for a shower and applied some medicine on its leg.

“Are you hungry?” The puppy whined in Shannon’s arms.

She carried it to the sofa, then picked up a piece of steak and fed it to the puppy.

“Be good, you’ve been abandoned, and so have I. Shall the two of us live together in the future?” Shannon coaxed it gently.

However, the puppy suddenly slipped out of her arms. After circling around the room a few times, it made a soft whimper and suddenly, it lay on its back, and lost consciousness.

Shannon shot up from the sofa and eyed the dishes that the waiter had brought, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Was someone trying to poison her?

“Why? I’ve already left. Why do you still want to harm me?” Tears welled up in her eyes as she slumped back onto the sofa.

What happened at Mrs. Weiss’ place that day suddenly came to her mind. It must be Janice! It must be her!

At the thought of this, Shannon panicked even more. She was all alone, powerless to do anything. If she stayed here, she would certainly die.

She immediately called the front desk, then bought a hotel staff’s uniform.

She had to leave earlier, and she couldn’t stay in the city anymore.

She had to go overseas. It was the only way to ensure her safety.

She waited till it was late at night before she changed into the uniform and walked out with her head lowered.

She only brought a card and a bag, and nothing else.

Although Shannon had a simple mind, she was not stupid.

Because of her disguise, the men that Janice arranged to watch her didn’t notice her at all.

Fortunately, she had her passport with her and so she booked the earliest flight. Shannon boarded the plane, leaving the city that she used to love so much.

Janice had been waiting for news from the hotel, but even at noon, there was no news at all.

“Call the hotel and get them to check if she’s dead yet.” Janice couldn’t wait any longer, so she called and barked her instructions to her subordinate.

The hotel staff immediately went to Shannon’s room. However, the corpse that Janice was expecting wasn’t there. There was only the cold body of a puppy.

“You’re useless! You can’t even handle a weak woman. Why am I feeding pigs like you?” Janice cursed in a low voice in the garden.

After hanging up, she smashed the new tea set she had just bought into pieces.

Hannah had come to visit Janice, and when she saw the broken pieces on the ground, she knew that something bad must have happened, to make Janice lose her composure.

“Janice, I don’t think you should care about her. She has already lost the baby, and the person that President Wenley has always loved is you. He even got divorced for you. What’s there to worry about when it comes to a woman who has no support?” Hannah sat Janice down.

She knew that Shannon was the only thing that could bother Janice..
