Chapter 37 – Part 1

[ It’s nice to be at the temple with you. I can hear L’Aquila rejoicing from here. ]

As soon as we arrived, Tino came wagging his tail next to me. The temple was a place abundant in holy power and the realm of gods, so it deserved his liking.

“I can’t hear it.”

[ That’s how it is. ]

Even though I was in a good mood and was thinking of lending help to the priests, I shook my head. It was because I had never stepped out to help anyway.

Instead of that, I smiled sadly and walked with my head down like a pitiful person, unlike earlier. It was like having a warm-up before working. If a person who had never done something like this in his entire life did this.

It would have a bigger effect because my mother aroused the sympathy of the public, and there would be an immediate effect.

“…What should we do? I think the saint was having a very hard time.”

“She is a naughty and bright person…”

“She deserves to feel hurt. How dare they, evil spirits!”

Listening to their chattering as if it was music, I climbed the carriage with Lisandro. While he gazed at me discontentedly, he didn’t open his mouth.

As Lisandro puckered his lips, I softly whispered and asked.

“Why? What are you complaining about?”

“Didn’t you leave him behind?”

“Ah.”

I tried to leave him behind, but I hadn’t decided yet so he was still my escort.

“When the results come out, I will go back.”

“…Sheesh.”

Even though he wanted to force him to go, I thought he was annoyed because he couldn’t. Lisandro closed the door himself as I sat down comfortably in the carriage with a big smile.

For three days, I leisurely waited for the letter from the temple. I was outside in the garden drinking tea and comfortably talking to Verdo. I had told him in advance that I would be recuperating. Since he was the one who would escort me, he, of course, had the right to know.

“Then, I—”

“No, you don’t have to. Sir should be in charge of the Holy Knights Order.”

He was a talented person. The head of the Holy Knights Order introduced him as a person who would succeed after him. Though he was weaker compared to Lisandro in terms of sword skills alone, his skills were comparable to becoming the next head of the Holy Knights Order in the future.

His popularity in the temple went without saying. Lisandro was just exceptionally strong.

“Sir should protect the temple.”

“The Saint is the significant existence of the temple. So, it is the Saint that I should protect.”

He stiffened his face as he insisted on going with me.

In fact, I couldn’t ask Verdo to come with me as I was going to find a clue about myself and not to recuperate. There was no reason to bring Verdo with other escorts and Frey. It was already suffocating between Lisandro and Verdo, so I wondered if it would be any different with Frey.

“That’s all right. My escort will be chosen among the talented people from my family and take them with me. I want to forget about my responsibilities in the temple for a while. You understand, right…?”

“All about… the temple?”

I nodded my head and continued in a suppressed voice.

“Yes. I just meant that I want to relax without thinking of anything else. That doesn’t mean that I will really forget about it, so don’t be so sad.”

He pursed his lips as I smiled and spoke mischievously. However, since he couldn’t say anything he wanted to say, he just shut his mouth and nodded his head.

And so, our conversation ended like that. Still, I didn’t care and drank my tea as I languidly glanced around the garden. While it felt like a lot of things were going on in a short span of time, it wasn’t stuffy or anything like that.

The people who are after me were coming from under the water, but I am confident that I could settle it with my own abilities. Even though Frey’s memories had returned to him and had no murderous intent towards Lisandro, I was more comfortable around him.

If I were him, I would have killed Lisandro a hundred times whether I haven’t experienced much now. I would hate him so much that I wouldn’t want to see his face.

However, because of the sole reason that I saved Frey, he became friends with Lisandro. Although they bicker with each other and there was a cold atmosphere around them, they were more like friends with each other. He could have gone through the same thing again no matter if I saved him.

I had no idea what Frey was thinking.

As I was filled with thoughts about Frey, I remembered the words he sometimes says that fluttered my heart. When I shook my head, Verdo suddenly stopped behind me.

“Sir…?”

“You are very diligent in escorting, Sir Verdo.”

“Frey?”

I slightly poked my head to avoid Verdo, who was blocking behind me, and saw Frey sticking out. With his eyes folded, he held out a box in his hand.

“It’s dessert. I bought it to eat together.”

“Oh.”

“Lord Verdo should have some with us as well.”

Speaking politely, Frey shook the box slightly.

“I am escorting…”

“Let’s sit down and eat together, sir.”

“…If you insist.”

At that, Verdo pretended to lose and sat on the chair opposite me, while Frey naturally sat next to me. Beckoning to Yuta guarding him, he put down the tea in front of Frey.

“It’s a new product this time.”

“I like everything.”

Yuta brought a plate, set the snacks Frey brought, and stepped back.

“I think they must have contacted you at this point.”

Frey asked, moving his kiwi on his plate onto me. I then poked the kiwi and put it in my mouth.

“It hasn’t arrived yet.”

He crossed his legs and turned towards me.

“Are you ready to recuperate?”

He slyly mentioned it and smiled brightly. As I glanced at Verdo, fortunately, he didn’t seem to understand his words.

“Roughly. I don’t have much to bring.”

“Well, yes. Is Lisandro at the training ground?”

“Mm. This time, a monster appeared out of the blue in the West Bongru Mountains. I guess that’s why he was busy.”

Except for when I went to the temple because I was busy preparing this and that, he couldn’t come to visit even if it was just the two of me with Verdo.

“Sir Verdo doesn’t seem to like dessert very much.”

Thank you so much for always supporting the novels I work on, even if you don’t buy me a coffee, I really do appreciate it a lot.
