288 7.16 Tavern and Smithy Discussion.

We arrived at the trading district of the village and settled down at one of the benches at the tavern. "Hello young man, you brought guests today...How wonderful. What do you wish to have and for your guests? Sky juice for all of you first? Take a look at the menu and let me know once I return."

"Oh, hello Miss. Yes, this is my family. We lived not far from here. I thought it would be nice to bring them out for meals once in a while."

The mistress of the tavern handed us the menu and we looked at it and saw how pricey some of the meals served there. Nevertheless, it was my treat so it should matter too much. The menu states as below:

Salted Duck Eggs 2 for 5 coppers

Fried Rice with Salted Fish for 8 coppers

Pork Dumpling 2 for 1 shilling

Steamed Fish in Wild Ginseng 2 shillings

Roasted Braised Chicken for 3 shillings

Roasted Peking Duck for 4 shillings

Roasted Pork Belly for 5 shillings

We settled for 3 servings of Fried Rice with Salted Fish, 1 serving of Roasted Pork Belly, 1 serving of Roasted Peking Duck, 1 serving of Roasted Braised Chicken and 3 servings Pork Dumplings to go. When the food arrives, I paid 16 shillings and got back 26 coppers back.

We 3 literally had a feast there and the Braised Chicken and Peking Duck was not a whole bird but were only a quarter of a bird each. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable for us to have someone else to cook food for us once in a while. The area was clean and the tables were clean too. Basically, we do not have any complaints and gave the tavern 5-star ratings for the food and service provided.

"Elder...could you wait for us here? I'm going to bring Matilda to get her set of axe and pickaxe and we'd be right back." I told the Elder and she just nods her head in drowsiness because it had been some time she had eaten this much...!

.....

"Hello there my friend...! I've already made 4steel daggers out of the pieces that I got from you yesterday and it had been totally sold out. Those Refined Steel Plates are very good and I have orders lining up for the daggers as well. By the way, what can I do for you today?"

"Ah...my fine Smithy. Do you have axes and pickaxes? We would be going to chop down some timber and also to look for gems in the mining area. I also want to discuss something with you later."

"Sure...sure...we have wood, stone, iron axes and pickaxes and they are priced at 1, 4 and 8 shillings respectively. What would you like, my dear friend?"

"We would like the iron ones for the axes and pickaxes. Do you have a kind of holder for them to lug it around since we do have to carry some other stuff as well?"

"Ah...for you my friend, I'd throw in those 2 leather belt holders and 2 leather back straps for free. 32 shillings or 1 gold and 12 shillings my friend. So what do you want to discuss with me, would you and lady friend care to join me inside the workshop?"

The blacksmith went inside and pushed the curtain to let us both in. We both sat facing the blacksmith and I began to ask him, "Kind smithy, how much do you know about sockets and fusion of gems?"

"Oh...sockets, yes...yes...I know all about them. Red gems can be socketed into armour while Green gems can be socketed into weapons. There are three weight subclasses of armour, Light, Medium and Heavy and there are four main classes as well such as Normal, Rare, Epic and Legendary."

"Normal armour has 2 sockets, Rare has 3 sockets, Epic has between 3 or sometimes 4 sockets while Legendary has a fixed 5 sockets. The three weight subclasses for Light would be Cloth and Leather, Medium for Mail Armour while Heavy would be Full Body armour types."

"Same goes to Weapons. We have 4 Classes which are Normal with 2 sockets, Rare with 3 sockets, Epic with 3 or 4 sockets and Legendary with 5 sockets. Subclasses include Light, Medium and Heavy."

"All daggers and one-handed or two-handed swords and others are considered Light weapons, Halberds and Battle Axes are Medium weapons and Great Battle Axes, Great Halberds and Great Broadsword plus other Greatness weapons are Heavy weaponry."

"Mr Smithy, how about Vendetta here?" Matilda handed the Smithy her sword that had been recently revived by me. He held the scabbard with trembling hands and before he even withdrew the sword he asked, "Where did you get this sword, Missy? This sword belonged to a past Legend and it had been forged by my late father."

"My father was Robert Fitzwater of Yorkshire and my mother was Matilda Yates of Staffordshire and this was his sword that was given to me by my granny, Priestess of Yorkshire."

He went down on one knee and bowed his head and said, "Milady, please forgive me for not recognising you. My family had served you as smithies and we were in the household of Sir Fitzwater. We were the ones left behind and we buried your father in the rubble and handed his only possession to his mother, your granny, The Priestess of Yorkshire."

"Please rise and don't stand on ceremonies, my good man. Please do call me Missy for I am no longer a noblewoman and have no right to be called Milady. I am an adventurer now, you see."

"Yes, Missy. By the way, how is your granny now? Is she well...? It had been like 5 years since we last met here and I am not sure if she is still able to recognise me or not. How about you, young man. What's your story?"

"Ah...I'm just a trader that's all. Dealing in the Refined Steel plates here in this town. I didn't bring my sword here with me or else I have to bring in the morticians and the funeral parlour services."

"Why is that so...?"

"Because you will die out laughter the moment you have seen my sword...Hahahahaha."

"Hahahahahhaa.....you should have seen his sword...it became like curly fries when he pulled out from the BOSS today morning. Hahahahaha...it was bent so out of shape that it looked like a car bumper from a car crash....!!! Mmuuuaaahahaha...!!"

In a moment Matilda gained her demeanour of a noblewoman and the next moment she lost it like a madwoman.

"Hooo...hooo...hooo...it is sure hilarious. Not curly fries Missy, it's as curly like my nostril hair...!!! That sword is worthless trash...! It's dead now. Only good to give it a proper burial...Hooo...hooo...hooo!!!"

I looked so sad when they made fun of my sword. It's ok to call my current sword state as curly fries, but curly nostril hair...huu...huu...huu...so mean you know this smithy guy....huu...huu...huu...

"I've got a few more questions right now, my good smithy. The fusion of gems. How many shards of gems does it take to produce a gem?"

"Whole Gems have different qualities, Poor, Fair, Good, Perfect. All shards are considered as Poor pieces and it takes 8 pieces to form a Poor Gem, 5 Poor Gems to make a Fair Gem, 5Fair Gems to make a Good Gem and 5 Good Gems to make a Perfect Gem."

"Wow...so many definitions. Alright, since you know Milady here...How about these 2 Refined Steel plates? Do I hear 5 gold pieces?"

"Fine...5 gold pieces it is. Do you want them in shillings as well? That would be 68 shillings after deduction of the 2 iron axes and picks."

"Sure...sure...shillings are fine. If I were just to concentrate trading then gold would be a better option for me but since I would be involved in buying groceries every other day then shillings would be great. Here are the Refined Steel Plates. I would like to repair my sword and revive it in the ICU first."

"Good luck my young trader friend. Don't forget to take your 2 axes and picks on the way out. Thank you for your business."

"You're welcome my dear smithy. One more question, how do we fuse gems?"

"Use a fusion chamber, my friend. You can also fuse weapons, armour or both to create a new weapon or armour but the results won't be that great if fused with 2 different items. Good luck once more..."

He bade us goodbye from inside his workshop and as we stepped out, someone passed 2 iron axes and picks with the leather belt holders and back strap holders. We thanked the anonymous person and we walked back to the tavern.

"Pssssttt...Hey Robin...where did you get those metal plates, huh? It costs 2 gold and 10 shillings each. where did you stash your loot? You didn't even carry the storage bag granny passed you. How many pieces do you have with you? 5 pieces? 10 pieces? What...? Tell me...please..."

"Huh...? Oh...those Refined Steel plates? I have about 50,000 over pieces left. Why do you need to know?"

Damn...! I let the cat out of the bag and now it's peeing and shitting all over the grass patch...! This is 1160 England and not 1860 Japan...!

"50,000 over thousand pieces? Are you kidding me? You must be a half dim-witted guy if you told me you have 50,000 over pieces of that..."

"Really, 59,000+++ pieces of grains....Hahaha."

I was walking ahead of her when I suddenly sensed a punch coming towards me, and I sidestepped and twirled around while catching the fist on my open palm before it could reach me.

"You...! Ommphfff..."

"Yesterday was unexpected, but today was expecting..." as I returned a kiss on her lips to simply shut her up.

.....

"Granny, look...we both have got a new iron axe and pick to go mining soon after. The blacksmith said he knew us from my sword. He used to be our smithies and they are the one that buried Father."

"Hush, child...The Sheriff is here with his men-at-arms. We would better leave now...this is not the time and place for Vendetta...Let's go...!"

"But granny...I..."

"No buts...Go...NOW...!"

I took the packet of pork dumplings, took a swig of sky juice and quickly leave the area with the golf buggy that we came and I drove as quickly as possible to return it to the offscreen crew.
