268 6.62 Stairway To Heavens

After receiving the specifics from The Immortal, he thus proceeded on to confide virtually on his life story and how he turned out here inhabiting like this, with no one to converse to and essentially on the verge of lunacy.

"Hey kid, do you remember at one period of time, after you had been rescued by Hiko Seijuro, you went to the stream and meditate and then after your meditation you were planning you never had a system like anyone else? it is a good thing, you know...if not how would you be able to remember so many things in this 2 part series?"

"For your information, I could let you know of your status, not a system...do you want to hear it out? This would be the improved version of yours..."

"Sure, Immortal One. I would like to get to know my status so that I might be able to improve or take note of it...."

"Ok...here it is....*tada*"

"Basically, if I were to throw you out in the wilderness, I don't think you might be able to survive on your own. Basic knowledge is just next to nothing and you have not made an effort to buck up. You have a dojo, why don't you go beat up someone there? Get someone to be your punching bag and practise on those basic skills and upgrade to at least intermediate. Right now you should at least be a Master in any of your skills."

"Your set of skills were all based on the system right now. If you have held a pistol or a rifle, it would automatically be an Advanced level for you, and if you held a Karambit or a Kukri, it too would be an Advanced level for you. Right now your levelling system is based on your current skill, that's why you're only. Basic Pugilist since your other life you are Advanced Unarmed Combat specialists."

"Alright...its already afternoon break now. I generally will have an afternoon snooze rather than doing other mortal things. Hahahaa. Don't descend the treacherous mountain trail. No one utilizes that anymore. Go straight behind the monastery, there's a zig-zag staircase that you can use."

"Whaaaatttt...?!? There's a staircase we can use...? Oh...its just behind the stage here..." announced Hiko-sama as he peeked behind the curtain.

"Where's this staircase leads up to?" I asked as I peered up and can only see darkness above it.

"That's for me to ascend there. This is perceived as Stairway To Heavens, for your information. Your journey is going down to the ground floor. Any deeper you will enter the pits of Hell. So be careful when you need to step off. Alright...be off now. Himaru, I know you still got lots of work to do right?"

"Better put aside what your loins are yearning at this moment. Your tasks at hands hold the future of Japan and the way it's progressing right now, all I can say is that I am in favour of it. Go now...time is ticking by...If you need to return here, use the back staircase. it is much safer."

The Immortal raised his hands on the air and stretched and let out a huge yawn that sounded like the roar of thunder. So we all excuse ourselves and headed to the back of the monastery, pushed the backdrop side and descended the staircase.Haiya...where for such thing? It only appears in our fantasy. Lucky it's a metal staircase and not an elevator or an escalator. Hahahahah.

When we reached the foot of the mountain, we hurried back home since we had been gone like more than 2 hours and the afternoon tea would have waited for us. Even if it's the festivities, the 'aunties' preferred to stay on since they knew no one would be able to cook for us especially with the load of work that I am facing right now.

Since the Immortal One had spoken that he is in favour of what I had been accomplishing, so I understood I am on the favourable track. I wonder what transpired to Tokugawa Iemochi and his Princess Kazu last night. From what I recollect, she would be here for the festivities and would retreat to Kyoto soon after. In the history books, they would become man and wife in 2 years time after their introductory meet.

"Waaahhh...everybody is getting their partners and getting married. Hahahaha. Soon we would be seeing little Hikos and little Shus running about in the house. Hahaha. Guess once I am done with my reports from all the mayors of the municipalities, I would arrange for the hand of Izumi in marriage. At the meantime, priority has to be set straight first." I mumbled to myself and didn't realise that it was distinct enough for the two of them to listen to me.

Today the 'aunties' had prepared a recipe that I had given to them. it was glutinous rice cake, with a bit of lye water, and wrapped in banana leaves to give a triangular look and steamed. the grated coconut was also steamed but was separately done and prepared with salt and screwpine leaves to give it a fragrance. Palm sugar was melted as added to it as syrup.

The Chinese called it 'Guai Shu Shu' and the locals called it Lopes. It was known as Alkaline Dumpling and can be eaten hot or cold. Each triangle is good for one person and the combined force of 72 cooks, they managed to whip out more than 8000 pieces with just a single 500 kg of glutinous rice.

It was a simple preparation as the rice was soaked in the lye for 1 hour, it was then steamed like normal rice would be prepared. After that, the rice would be fashioned into triangles and wrapped with banana leaves and then steamed again for another 15 mins. The process looked tedious but with many hands involved, it made the work seemed light.

When it was time for tea, the whole triangular pieces of the dessert was brought out and distributed among the residents. There were streams of people all holding their own plates to collect a dessert and a dollop of steamed grated coconut with a small ladle of palm sugar. Of course, they have to remove the leaves before consuming, dummy. Hahahaha.

It was a simple dessert and with the start of our dessert at 330 pm, it also signifies the beginning of the festivities that would be hauled nicely into the wees of the morning.

Soon everyone had their desserts and was admiring the unique taste as well as it's a combo of steamed grated coconut and the palm sugar. It was like having a Dango but of different variant.

After the dessert, Izumi and I went back to the business conference room and settled the remaining of the reports that need to be attended and separate those who need His Majesty's opinion as well. The report books were placed neatly on the tables and by then I had almost gone through half of the reports given.

We had Oden in the business conference room and there were another 21 merchants and some were regular ones that arrived from Hokkaido and Sapporo and they peered in while I was doing the reports and I waved at them. Realising that I had become the Mayor/Governor, they bowed deeply and headed back to their business.

"Not bad...business still picks up even though they knew that the whole of Japan is being restructured right now. Izumi...those not done yet by me, could you turn to the page showing about their past statistics and the present one that they had implemented? it's easier for me to go through at a faster pace."

I thought to myself as I informed Izumi on how the reports should be places for me to review just like a teacher going through a students textbook.

Once our monthly budget had been verified, any sales proceeding would be pushed to the following month. With the yesterday 14 merchants and today's 21 of them, that would make 35 merchants altogether and the starting sales of the month would hit at least 10-20 million gold coins.

Looks like we are going to top off our total deposits for last month. I sighed a big relief and was wondering what profits would the next big production would reap in.
