Chapter 369 Not The Best Catch

"You're... not my grandson?" Elder Kang said slowly.

The room was slightly dark, quiet and cold, with nothing but the two of them in it. And so, Kang Jun's words felt like they echoed through the whole house, but in the end, all they did was reverberate and come back to Elder Kang.

"If you're not my grandson, who's grandson are you then?" Elder Kang said, partially referring to the situation which had happened with Lu AnLing.

If Kang Jun wasn't his grandson, that only meant one thing. It mean Kang Jun wasn't Kang Mu's son.

Usually, most people would play the situation off as a joke, but Elder Kang knew more than anyone that Kang Jun didn't joke, and even if he had decided to start, he wouldn't have joked about something as monumental as this.

Looking at Kang Jun, who just sighed for a second, Elder Kang was completely calm.

"I don't know." Kang Jun said.

Hearing this, Elder Kang didn't freak out. He wasn't angry and he wasn't sad, in fact, right now he cared more about the state of Kang Jun.

"Are you alright?" The old man asked.

Kang Jun nodded.

Then, thinking of something, Elder Kang sighed. "Then does Mu know about this?"

As he said this, he knew how it sounded. It sounded like his son was the victim. That Mo Ruyi and Kang Jun had been tricking him. Though he didn't mean to say it that way in the slightest.

Truly, even if Mo Ruyi had decided to have an affair, Elder Kang would not fault her for it. She was pretty much forced to marry the wayward, Kang Mu and Elder Kang knew his son was not the best catch.

Kang Jun: "Apparently he knew all along."

Hearing this, the man froze.

He couldn't believe it!

Elder Kang felt a bit rude but for the first time in forever, he was actually proud of his son! Who would have thought Kang Mu could be so mature.

"Okay then. Then everything is fine." Elder Kang said calmly.

The reaction was so weak that Kang Jun frowned, "Are you not shocked? Angry?"

Elder Kang smiled gently and then he lifted himself off his chair before using his cane to walk slowly towards Kang Jun. Once close, Elder Kang began to speak.

"Look, no matter what blood we share or, in this case, don't share, it won't change the fact that I anticipated your birth, that I took care of you as a child, and that you, by your own strength, were able to convince the great many of our family members that you were the right head for the family... all that matters to me is what's in," Elder Kang placed his hand on Kang Jun's left peck and said, "here."

Feeling this, Kang Jun smiled bitterly.

Seeing this, Elder Kang then laughed slightly as he removed his hand. "Either way, you've done so much for the Kang family business that it pretty much belongs to you. Its glory is your glory and legacy."

Now, Kang Jun frowned. "I'm returning it."

This time, Elder Kang looked at Kang Jun and frowned. "That isn't necessary. You became the heir by your own strengths and talents. You're what's best for the family, even if you aren't blood."

Kang Jun shook his head.

"I never wanted to be the heir. I wanted to be free and now, I can be." Kang Jun said. After saying this, he walked to the table and put his briefcase on it before removing papers from it. "Biologically, Kang Mei Xue is my daughter, and so, I plan to reveal this information in front of everyone at the next family gathering in order to stop Feng Zhengyi from going to court. She won't be able to get her hands on my daughter. Then, I want to take her far away from here. So we can all live happily and peacefully."

Hearing this, Elder Kang's face paled. "You're leaving?..."

Kang Jun nodded.

Elder Kang: "Why?"

"It's better for me, for AnLing, for the kids and for everyone else here..." Kang Jun said simply.

"Everyone else? No... it's not for me. I'll never see you or AnLing or Mingyu or Mei Xue ever again! Can't you just wait until I die..." Elder Kang said shakily as he walked over to Kang Jun and clutched his arm.

The old man's eyes were bloodshot and passionate in a way that Kang Jun had never seen before.

"Please Jun... don't leave..." the elder said.

But Kang Jun couldn't do as he wanted. "Don't speak of dying. There is nothing you can do to change my mind. We're leaving. After I've dealt with Feng Zhengyi, we'll leave."

Hearing this, the old man felt as if someone had ripped out his heart. The man clenched his teeth and said, "First Zhi... and now you... everyone leaves me."

Kang Jun didn't like showing emotion to his family members. His love and care were specially reserved for his children and wife, but seeing the elder in such a weak state, and hearing Kang Zhi's name uttered, Kang Jun put his warm hand on his grandfather's shoulder.

Feeling this touch, Elder Kang did not know how to react. Kang Jun was never quite kind to him. Ever since he was a child, he'd been a bit cold, and in all honesty, Elder Kang knew that this was due to him, Kang Mu and Mo Ruyi. Elder Kang showed more love to his son, Kang Zhi, Kang Mu showed more love to Kang Jun's younger siblings and Mo Ruyi did not show anyone more love, but in the face of her own son, if felt like he was getting less love.

For a child this was traumatic, but now, as Elder Kang felt Kang Jun's touch, Elder Kang couldn't help but thank Lu AnLing and any entity that led her to Kang Jun because the man had truly found his place...

Kang Jun: "Whenever you want to see us, I'll pay for your ticket to come to visit us. I know you won't want to stay there because the company is your baby after all, but you'll see us. This I promise."

This would not solve everything, and neither would it make Elder Kang more keen on letting the couple and their children go, but the small bit of emotion Kang Jun showed touched Elder Kang's heart.

"That better be true." Elder Kang scolded. "Because if you don't keep your promise, I'm going to find you and I'm going to beat you with my cane."

Hearing this, Kang Jun frowned and rolled his eyes.
