Chapter 289 I Didn’t Promise Her Anything

Kang Jun and Lu AnLing parted not too long after their chat, but Lu AnLing did not leave the bathroom just yet.

Before she did, she looked at herself in the mirror and then she took a deep breath.

Getting out of the bathroom, Lu AnLing did not look for father or Tang Yiling. She knew she would have to face them at some point. She had, in fact, an elaborate plan in place to make her father remember her at the performance so, for now, she would allow fate to decide whether or not she faced him.

When Lu AnLing arrived at the table, she saw a strange expression on her mother's face.

"What's wrong?" Lu AnLing asked but she had an inkling that it had something to do with Tang Yian.

Looking at Lu AnLing, Lu Xiaoling noticed that Lu AnLing's face contained a certain knowing. Seeing this, Lu Xiaoling sighed. "You saw him too... your father..."

Hearing this, Lu AnLing sighed herself.

"What about it?" She said with slight annoyance. Noticing her tone, Lu AnLing felt like it was a bit unfair to her mother. The woman had nothing to do with her father being alive of forgetting her. In fact, she was obviously hurt herself.

Taking that to heart, Lu AnLing calmed her voice and then she said,

"Did he see you?"

Lu Xiaoling shook her head and then she looked to the man and said, "I wish he had..."

But at the same time, she was glad he hadn't.

Lu Xiaoling, like Lu AnLing, wanted to know how much it would take for Tang Yian to remember her. Would he remember her at first sight or would it take a lot more meetings?

As she thought this, Lu Xiaoling's face turned pale and sickly. Seeing this, Lu AnLing felt slightly uncomfortable.

Despite the fact that she had not loved her children, it was now obvious to Lu AnLing that Lu Xiaoling had loved Tang Yian.

Lu AnLing sighed.

"Look, dad doesn't remember us, and for now, nothing can be done about it. But I will make him remember me. " Lu AnLing said confidently.

Hearing this, Lu Xiaoling put her hands on the table.

"Do you want your father to suffer?"Lu Xiaoling asked a bit awkwardly. She herself had wanted such a thing when Tang Yian had belittled and rejected her feelings when she was pregnant and the year after Lu AnLing was born. She had truly hated him at some point in time...

As Lu Xiaoling thought about this, Lu AnLing really thought about what Lu Xiaoling had asked her.

She wanted her father to remember her even if that meant that he had to suffer...

This was wrong and Lu AnLing knew it but still. She couldn't help how she felt.

"I don't want him to suffer but I do at the same time. " Lu AnLing said with a low voice. "I just can't accept that he's living a happy lie while I have to live in a painful reality. I need him to remember me."

With that said, Lu Xiaoling nodded slowly.

After saying this, Lu AnLing cleared her throat. "But for now, that's unimportant... I came to talk to you about Yuxi. Does she know who her parents are?"

Lu Xiaoling shook her head. "I told her that I'm her grandmother and that Xu Shen is her grandfather. As for her parents, I told her that she will meet her mother one day soon... as for her father... I didn't promise her anything."

Hearing this, Lu AnLing nodded. "When you get home, tell her that she'll meet her mother and father soon."

"I don't want to lie to her..." Lu Xiaoling said awkwardly. "When you were at the institution, I tried to find out who the biological father was but I turned up with nothing... I know that you're married to Kang Jun now but, Yuxi also needs to know about her biological father. She'll ask about it one day and I don't want this to hurt her when she finds out that the man she'd called father all her life wasn't her father."

With that said, Lu AnLing could clearly see that Lu Xiaoling loved Lu Yuxi and this made Lu AnLing glad, but before she acknowledged anything, Lu AnLing needed to tell her mother something important.

Lu AnLing: "You wouldn't be lying to her."

Hearing this, Lu Xiaoling tilted her head in confusion but in a split second Lu Xiaoling thought of something which she found impossible. "Is Kang Jun is Yuxi's father?"

Without a word, Lu AnLing nodded her head.

"How?" Lu Xiaoling asked awkwardly. Hearing this, Lu AnLing practically scoffed but before she could say anything, Lu Xiaoling stopped her. "I mean, how are you sure?"

"The Kang family adopted my other daughter, her name is Mei Xue..." As Lu AnLing finally said this, a soft expression appeared on her face.

"I see... so that's why Zhao Qin could not tell me about her whereabouts." Lu Xiaoling said with a low voice.

She had tried her hardest to find Lu AnLing's second child, even when Zhao Qin had advised her not to. But just like Lu AnLing, all Lu Xiaoling had encountered were dead ends.

And now Lu Xiaoling knew why...

Lu Xiaoling wanted to spend some time connecting the dots in her mind but then, she suddenly heard Lu AnLing speak.

"Who is Zhao Qin?" Lu AnLing asked with fake curiosity dripping from her lips.

Lu AnLing knew the name. This was the name of the man who had apparently last seen her child alive but now Lu AnLing knew that her other daughter was still alive.

Lu Xiaoling: "Zhao Qin took care of your daughters when they were babies. Since they were born premature, their immune systems were weak... after sending you away, I regretted putting your daughters up for adoption and so, I went back to the hospital to get them back but by the time I went there, the eldest twin was already adopted. As for Yuxi, she was still sickly. They didn't think she would survive her first year..."

As Lu Xiaoling spoke, her eyes filled with immense guilt and sadness. She always seemed to do the wrong thing. She fully realized this now as she thought of her past.

Lu Xiaoling: "That year was very hard... for the both of you I guess... but Doctor Zhao really did all he could to help her and now she's completely healthy. And he was also the one who helped me hide Yuxi's existence from those who wanted to take her away... I guess now I know that it was the Kang family."

"How exactly did he do that?" Lu AnLing asked. The girl cocked her head and sharpened her eyes.
