Chapter 204 It Doesn’t Matter Who You Are

When Kang Jun left the office he hadn't planned on bringing his father along with him, but then, realizing that it was best to escort the man away from Kang Corporations, Kang Jun allowed Kang Mu into his car.

Not caring that the man was in his car, Kang Jun drove as he usually did; accelerating the car to a dangerous speed. He had expected his father to say something but instead, the man just froze as the car sped towards its destination.

There, Kang Mu got out of the car. Wooziness spreading from head to toe and cursed under his breath.

Kang Jun saw this clearly but he didn't react to it, instead, he began walking towards the location in which Mr. Long had told them to go.

Once there, Kang Jun was about to walk into the restaurant with disinterest sprawled across his face but suddenly his gaze was drawn to a curvy figure, a small distance ahead.

Laying eyes on his wife, Kang Jun traced her whole body.

He immediately realized that the girl was wearing a tone of makeup but this didn't turn him off in the slightest. His wife was his wife no matter what she chose to wear.

Walking up to them on instruct, Kang Jun wanted to swoop Lu AnLing up into his arms and bring her home so they could have a little more 'exercise'.

Kang Jun had completely forgotten his surroundings, all that was and existed in the man's eyes was Lu AnLing.

Though, when he saw her hailing a taxi, Kang Jun believed this to be for the best. He wasn't sure if they could both hide their love for each other in public anymore. And with his father here, they could accidentally ruin their own plan, but still...

Kang Jun remembered how the girl had been depressed for not meeting his parents. Maybe this was an opportunity.

As Kang Jun was thinking this, Kang Mu had already spotted Elder Kang.

Watching his father walked up to the three, Kang Jun internally shrugged. 'Whatever happens, happens' was the motto he came into the situation with.

Walking over to the group, Kang Jun arrived just as Kang Mu began scolding his father.

Kang Mu had completely forgotten his surroundings and scolded Elder Kang incessantly. Most people would be embarrassed but no one gathered around them. Anyone with eyes recognized at least one of the four people and no matter what, no one wanted to offend a Kang. Mostly not Kang Jun or Elder Kang.

Kang Jun had a reputation of fear and cruelty that surrounded him. Even if the picture of his warmth displayed with Tang Bingyi had spread, no one was foolish enough to believe that this meant the man had gone soft.

On the contrary, many people did cruel things for or to protect the ones they loved and many shuttered at the thought of what Kang Jun would do for his beloved.

Elder Kang, on the other hand, might have been old but his reputation was still intact, even after nearly ten years of silence.

No one had a doubt in their minds that Kang Jun and Elder Kang were related. Their reputations past and present mirrored each other almost to a T.

And they all knew that despite the elder not speaking up for himself as he was being scolded, this was a privilege only the Kang's had between one another.

Kang Mu: "Father, you need to learn how to take care of yourself? You're too reckless and it's seriously something you need to consider changing."

As they passed, people looked at them from the corner of their eyes, hiding their glances as well as possible.

Moments before when Kang Mu was screaming at Elder Kang, Lu AnLing had planned to leave with no problem, but then she suddenly felt a tug on her leg. Looking down, Lu AnLing had seen Kang Mei Xue who gripped tightly onto her skirt as she watched Kang Mu with a pale face and her eyes quickly filling with tears.

Looking back at the scene, Lu AnLing could understand where Kang Mei Xue was coming from. Watching people fight was scary, but watching your own family fight was heart-wrenching. Mostly when a person didn't have a stable base to depend upon.

By what Lu AnLing knew of the Kang family, they were not a great big happy family. There were many strange feuds and weird auras which surrounded each relationship and this had rubbed off on both Kang Mingyu and Kang Mei Xue. But Kang Mei Xue more than Kang Mingyu because she was always present and observant, while Kang Mingyu hid from the disaster.

Lu AnLing was about to speak words of comfort to the girl, but then, Kang Mu said,

"You And Mei Xue need to stay at home, if you want to go out have Qiao Lan, Ruyi or even I can accompany you!"

Hearing this, the elder frowned. "I'm not a child. I can go where I wish as I please and if I want to bring mygreat-granddaughter with me, so be it."

Kang Mu looked at his father in disbelief. "No. You can't. Mother is in charge of Mei Xue and she gave the task of taking care of her to Qiao Lan, you have no right to take her. And I heard from Lan that you disallowed her from taking Mei Xue out. She's the girl's mother,"

After hearing those last few words, all Lu AnLing saw was red.

Qiao Lan was whose mother?

Certainly not Kang Mei Xue's.

Lu AnLing was done listening to the nonsense.

What Kang Mu was saying to Elder Kang wasn't fair! The elder had just been trying to cheer both himself and Kang Mei Xue up. But even so, that wasn't what bothered Lu AnLing the most.

What did was the fact that Kang Mu, despite being Kang Mei Xue's Grandfather, could not realize Kang Mei Xue's sadness.

Looking at Kang Mei Xue on the verge of tears, Kang Jun frowned. He was about to stop Kang Mu from speaking any more but then, suddenly, Lu AnLing turned to the two men and said,

"Please excuse me, but this isn't the right place to be causing such a ruckus."

Hearing this, both Elder Kang And Kang Mu turned to the girl in disbelief as Kang Jun, despite keeping his cold demeanor, looked at her with love and pride.

Seeing that Lu AnLing had seemingly come to his rescue and the look Kang Jun gave to the girl, Elder Kang was happy even if he had just been scolded, a moment ago. But then, seeing Kang Mei Xue's pale face, the elder looked back towards Lu AnLing who frowned hard.

At that moment, the elder completely understood why Lu AnLing had spoken. Seeing her determination and protective instinct, Elder Kang's heart warmed. It was like she was a mama bear, protecting her cub. For the first time, Elder Kang remembered that Lu AnLing had given birth many years ago and given her child up for adoption...

Elder Kang suddenly remembered words Mo Ruyi had told him many years ago.

'A mother will be a mother, no matter if the child is biologically theirs or not...'

Elder Kang thought this to be beautiful. His whole aura cooled.

Though what Kang Mu felt was the opposite. Instead, Kang Mu's face twisted as he looked at the girl with heavy makeup on and said, "Mind your own business. Do you know who we are?"

Lu AnLing knew, obviously, but she couldn't care less.

Looking at Kang Mu, Lu AnLing put her hands on her waist and looked at the man coldly. Seeing this, Kang Mu felt his body shiver. Her look was on par, or maybe even worse than Kang Jun's.

"It doesn't matter who you are or not. All that I know is that you're scaring her" Lu AnLing gestured to Kang Mei Xue as she put her hand on Kang Mei Xue's head."and I can't accept that."

Kang Mu looked down at Kang Mei Xue who shivered as she held onto Lu AnLing's skirt.

Suddenly, Kang Mu's heart began to squeeze in his chest. He looked at her sadly and was about to go hold her but instead, Kang Jun passed the man and walked to the little girl's side.

He knelt down beside Kang Mei Xue and sighed as he patted her heard.

At this moment, Kang Jun was so close to Lu AnLing that she could smell his sweet scent. Usually, she would lose herself in this, but at this moment she was too angry.

With Kang Jun by her side, Kang Mei Xue hugged the man and unconsciously began to cry. Seeing this, Kang Mu felt twice as bad.

Now, Elder Kang walked towards the little girl and tried to coax her along with Kang Jun.

"I'm sorry, great-grandpa was bad... I didn't mean to cause this" the old man began to say in a low voice.

Kang Mei Xue shook her head in Kang Jun's embrace and then, Kang Jun said, "For once, I don't think you did anything wrong."

Hearing this, Elder Kang was not offended, instead, he was relieved. Little by little Elder Kang felt as if Kang Jun was opening himself up to him.

Meanwhile, Kang Mu didn't do anything. He just watched. Though, inside, he felt conflicted. He had just come to accompany his father home. How did he end up being the bad guy? Kang Mu wondered. He didn't mean to scream at his father, he was just on edge due to what Mr. Long had told them.

Kang Mu was not an aggressive man. He didn't like confrontation and tried to avoid it at all cost. Though, he was a bit of an unintentional problem monger.

Ignoring Lu AnLing, Kang Mu walked right passed her and went to the two men who tried to coax the little girl.

"Mei Mei... I'm so sorry I scared you," Kang Mu said not approaching too much. He felt unwelcome. Looking at the girl who didn't acknowledge him, Kang Nu felt his heart hurt. "And dad... I'm sorry I screamed at you, I was just worried."

Elder Kang nodded.

Watching them, Lu AnLing's anger had slightly subsided but despite all this, she still felt her body stiff. What had angered her the most was the fact the fact that Kang Mu had scared Kang Mei Xue, Lu AnLing knew this for a fact. But thinking back, Lu AnLing noticed another thing. What really caused volcano within her to bubbled over was that Kang Mu had dared to refer to Qiao Lan as Kang Mei Xue's Mother.

Rubbing her arm, Lu AnLing calmed herself down. She felt her quick temper from her childhood beginning to re-emerge within her and she couldn't quite determine if this was a good or bad thing.
