Chapter 203 They Were Like Prisoners

As the girls began to carry Elder Tang out of the restaurant in the most nonchalant way possible, behind them, Kang Mei Xue looked at the scene with big eyes.

She herself couldn't help as Lu AnLing did but seeing that Tang Bingyi had left her bag, Kang Mei Xue went to grab it and then she ran towards the women who carried Elder Tang out.

Seeing this, Elder Kang, who had been left behind felt a wave of pride and happiness overtake his heart.

Sometimes the best way to teach children was not to teach them at all. All Lu AnLing had ever done was do what she believed to be the right thing, in front of both Kang Mingyu and Kang Mei Xue and they had both followed in her example.

Children were easily influenced.

Lu AnLing had barely met Kang Mei Xue, the elder was sure of this but the little girl was obviously attached.

As she followed and watched Lu AnLing intensely, Elder Kang could see this. But he couldn't comprehend how Lu AnLing had caused Kang Mei Xue to act without an order...

Before Lu AnLing had entered their lives, Kang Mei Xue was like a doll; quiet and obedient to a fault but now the girl was beginning to look alive.

It was as if all these years the girl's clock had been stopped only to have it move for the first time.

Elder Kang was glad.

Outside, Lu AnLing and Tang Bingyi we're beginning to have trouble carrying the old man. At this point, he had stopped murmuring his deceased wife's name and he had promptly fallen unconscious but this made it twice as hard to carry him.

Standing at the curb, Tang Bingyi hailed a taxi, momentarily putting almost 100 percent of Elder Tang's weight on Lu AnLing.

Feeling a strange pressure, Elder Tang's eyes fluttered open. Seeing Lu AnLing, he grabbed onto her shoulder.

Smelling the wine on his breath, Lu AnLing turned away slightly.

Elder Tang looked at Lu AnLing with longing and love. Tears once more began to form at the corners of his eyes, "Liane... once more... please call out my name... call me Haonan... like you used to."

Hearing the pain in the man's voice as he begged her, Lu AnLing felt as if she was driven into a corner. Looking at the man deeply, Lu AnLing opened her mouth and said,

"Hao..."

But just as she was going to finish her sentence, a taxi stopped right in front of the three.

After helping Elder Tang into the car, Tang Bingyi walked over to Lu AnLing and gave her a bow. "Thank you so much for helping me."

Rubbing on her arm, Lu AnLing smiled awkwardly.

"Don't worry about it." She said before turning to look at Elder Tang who rested his head against the taxi window. "Take good care of him. Make sure he drinks lots of water. Tomorrow will be a pain for him, I'm one hundred percent certain that he'll have a hangover when he wakes up. "

Tang Bingyi nodded and gave a dry laugh. "I'm afraid your right. He never learns."

"Elders seem to be like that ," Lu AnLing said, her eyes not leaving Elder Tang.

"Speaking of elders," Tang Bingyi whispered. Behind Lu AnLing, Elder Kang was there but he didn't hear a word the two girls exchanged. Looking at the man, Tang Bingyi said, "If I'm not mistake , that's Elder Kang..."

Lu AnLing nodded. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions but I'll answer them another time if that's okay with you?"

Hearing this, and not wanting to infringe on the privacy of her first and only friend, Tang Bingyi gave a small smile and then nodded. "Next time, when we actually have lunch."

Tang Bingyi giggled.

The girl was about to leave, but just before she did, she handed Lu AnLing her business card and said, "Call me, text me, email me... whatever you prefer."

"I will." Lu AnLing said with a smile.

When Tang Bingyi was about to leave once more, Kang Mei Xue who had spent all this time watching the two, ran after the girl and then handed her her bag.

Seeing this, Tang Bingyi's eyes began to sparkle.

She bent down, smiled at Kang Mei Xue and said, "Thank you very much, you're a really good girl."

The little girl froze on spot.

Ever since she was young, Kang Mei Xue was used to being examined by people like a rare object. Every time Qiao Lan would bring her out, this would be the favorite pastimes of the woman's socialite friends. Since Tang Bingyi was so close, Kang Mei Xue didn't know any better and did as she had always done.

Seeing the strange way the girl acted, Lu AnLing's face twisted slightly. She walked over to the two and then patted Kang Mei Xue's head.

Once she felt the soft touch, Kang Mei Xue looked up at Lu AnLinh who wore the most gentle expression imaginable. Looking down at her, Lu AnLing said, "When someone says thank you, what do we reply?"

Kang Mei Xue stared at Lu AnLing with big bright eyes.

Lu AnLing: "We both have our guesses, let's say it together."

"1..."

"2..."

"3..." Lu AnLing counted down, her eyes not leaving Kang Mei Xue. Then when it came to the little girl to speak, both she and Lu AnLing spoke in unison,

"You're welcome."

On the sidelines, watching such a breathtakingly refreshing scene, Tang Bingyi felt as if a warm and fuzzy atmosphere had surrounded the two. It was like mother and child but Tang Bingyi pushed the thought straight out of her head.

'That's impossible...'she said to herself.

Not long after that, Tang Bingyi said her goodbyes and all that was left was Lu AnLing, Kang Mei Xue and Elder Kang.

As Lu AnLing watched Tang Bingyi's taxi leave, her eyes slightly fixed on the sad old man in the car, a voice behind her spoke.

"Don't tell me you have 'business' with her also?" Elder Kang said with a bit of worry.

Lu AnLing turned to face the man.

Easily deducing what the man was thinking even without looking at his face, Lu AnLing put her hands up innocently and then said, "No, not at all! Miss Tang wants to be my friend and I really don't mind that at all."

Hearing this, Elder Kang's body relaxed. He really didn't want his precious granddaughter-in-law to fight with the precious granddaughter of his friend. Already Kang Jun and Qiao Lan were on horrible terms... the elder did not think he would be able to take something else like that.

Walking up to Lu AnLing, Elder Kang said, "That's good. Surround yourself with good friends. You can't only rely on Jun, you need others to support you also."

Understand this, Lu AnLing nodded.

"So did you have a good day?" Lu AnLing asked both Elder Kang and Kang Mei Xue.

Elder Kang laughed. "Yes, it's been a long time since I enjoyed the company of Haonan..."

The elders gaze trailed off as if remembering certain circumstances in his past, then he turned to Kang Mei Xue and said, "We've both been very bored at home."

Hearing this, Lu AnLing frowned. "If you're ever bored, come to my and Kang Jun's home, we'll all have a nice time together."

With those words, both Kang Mei Xue and Elder Kang's whole mood lightened.

"I'll take you up on that offer." Elder Kang said.

And thus began a conversation. The two began to trail off and speak about the meeting with her grandmother.

"Bring Mei Xue too, I think Mingyu misses her and both Kang Jun and I do too," Lu AnLing said as she touched the girl's wavy hair.

Elder Kang nodded. "I'll do that, is there anything else you want me to bring? What does your grandmother like? Does she drink?"

Lu AnLing laughed. "She does drink but it's bad for her health, but she likes dark chocolate."

Elder Kang nodded once more.

Lu AnLing was about to spend a bit of time with the grandfather and granddaughter pair but she knew that it would be way too strange if anyone saw them together for too long.

She began saying goodbye to the two.

Kang Mei Xue and Elder Kang didn't want Lu AnLing to leave. They hadn't seen her in a while and wanted to monopolize a bit of her time.

At home, Kang Jun and Kang Mingyu could spend as much time with her as possible. On the weekends, the three would do many fun things together but for Elder Kang and Kang Mei Xue it was different. The whole of Kang Manor was theirs to enjoy as they liked but the house was too big for the both of them and because of Kang Mei Xue and Elder Kang's fragile health, they weren't allowed to leave without being escorted.

They were like prisoners.

That was why the elder wanted Kang Jun and his wife to move into the manor when they married, so he could have some company... but since their marriage was still a secret, the time for this hadn't come as of yet.

Seeing Lu AnLing about to hail a taxi, Elder Kang was about to find any excuse in order to make her stay, but just as he tried to do this, a voice called from beside him.

Elder Kang had forgotten that he had done one crucial thing. He had called for help. But he didn't expect help to come with an unexpected problem.

"Father?"

Hearing his sons voice, the Elder's face simultaneously darkened and paled.
