Chapter 386 - Petitions to Remove QL Group

The moment Li Qin Yao arrived at the QL Group headquarters, she immediately went into her grandfather's office. As she waited for the elevator to arrive, Li Mu Bai came over and stood beside her. The two exchanged a look and smiled before they stepped into the elevator.

Once the door shut, Li Mu Bai turned around and spoke, "Li Mu Chen will be on trial next month. At this moment, my father is looking after her and she will not be allowed to leave the house."

"Un. I've heard." 

"Yao Yao," Li Mu Bai hesitated. "I'm sorry. My family… I don't know why they continuously tried to hurt you. I know that whatever I say will not ease the pain you have gone through. I know that you won't be able to forgive Mu Chen for what she did but I still wanted to say I'm sorry."

Li Qin Yao's gaze softened as she heard his words. 

Previously, Li Mu Bai had given almost the same speech when his mother's scheme was brought up and now he had come to see her again to apologize for what his sister had done.

Li Qin Yao knew that Li Mu Bai was embarrassed to see her after what had happened. However, he could not avoid meeting her. 

"Li Mu Bai, you don't have to apologize on your mother or your sister's behalf," she smiled at him and lowered her gaze. "They are ȧduŀts who should know what they did was wrong. You are not responsible for their wrongdoings, but they are. I won't say that I will forgive Mu Chen or say that I understand why she did those things. I just hope that she can change and when she came out from prison, she will turn over a new leaf and stop bothering me. I won't care about whatever she wanted to do as long as she leaves me and my family alone." 

Li Mu Bai listened to her words and found that he could not come up with anything to say. 

But as a brother and a son, Li Mu Bai thought that he was partly responsible. If it was not for him, perhaps his mother would not choose that path. If he paid more attention to his sister and found out earlier of what she was trying to do, then perhaps Li Mu Chen would be where she was.

The elevator door slid open and the two of them walked side by side as they head over to the Chairman's office.

Li Mu Bai knocked on the door and the cousins entered the room only to find that their grandfather was on the phone with a deep frown on his face. 

Whoever was on the other line and whatever it was that they were discussing, the cousins could guess that it was not something pleasant.

After a while, Li Ren Xin ended the call with a long sigh and looked up at his grandchildren. A guilty expression appeared on his face as he turned to his granddaughter, however, Li Qin Yao chose to pretend that she did not understand the look on his face.

She could guess what was on her grandfather's mind at the moment. However, she had no intention to let him know that she had overheard his conversation with Li Mu Chen the other day.

"Grandfather," Li Qin Yao smiled. "What's wrong?

Li Ren Xin coughed dryly and looked away.

Li Qin Yao thought about the letter in her bag and hesitated for a few seconds. Then, she walked over to her grandfather and placed the white envelope on his table.

"Yao Yao, what is this?" Li Ren Xin knew exactly what was in the letter, but could not help but ask.

"You're… resigning?" Li Mu Bai asked.

"Un," Li Qin Yao nodded slowly. "Although most of the investors had their trust in me and wanted me to continue until the end, I don't think that I can work on it. If I stayed as the person in charge, we might lose potential buyers. I don't want to let the shareholders lose their money because of me."

"Yao Yao, you worked on the project from the beginning," Li Mu Bai said. "Won't you regret it?"

A small smile appeared on her lips at the thought of how she had worked on the proposal from the very beginning. She started with only a few staff and they had to work from her cafe. She was allocated with a small budget and had to find the investors. Working on this project allowed her to be close to Zhang Yu Han and they were finally married. How can she not regret it?

"The project was in its third phase and would require little supervision before it would be completed," Li Qin Yao said. "My husband's hotel building would soon be completed. As long as the project can continue, I will be satisfied. I can only request that whoever took the project later will follow the plan and did not make too much change."

Li Ren Xin heaved a sigh as he listened to the cousin's conversation.

Seeing the solemn look on his grandfather's face, Li Mu Bai exchanged a glance with his cousin and raised a brow.

"Even if you resigned from this project, QL Group probably won't be able to continue on the project," Li Ren spoke. 

"Grandfather, what do you mean?" Li Mu Bai asked.

"B City mayor called me a few times to express his concern about the project," Li Ren Xin spoke. "Although our major investors had their trust in QL Group, the public did not share the same opinion. The mayor had received petitions to remove QL Group from the project."

"How can they do that? We have an agreement" Li Mu Bai's expression changed. 

"The mayor was worried about the upcoming election," Li Ren Xin said. "If he did not follow the public's opinion, there is a chance that he will lose his position. You know that the people were looking forward to this project and what it will bring to their city. You tell me, would the mayor disregard the public's opinion and step down from his position to let us work on the project?"

Li Qin Yao returned to the hotel room and found her husband in the middle of a phone call. The stern look on his face disappeared quickly the moment he saw his wife. Li Qin Yao walked over to him and planted a kiss on his cheek. Then, she went over to check on their sleeping princess.

A few seconds later, Zhang Yu Han appeared by her side and wrapped his arms around her waist.

Li Qin Yao leaned her body on his ċhėst, tilted her head up and his lips descended on hers for a peck. "You're done with your call?"

"Hmm…" he nodded.

"Who is it? You had a very serious look on your face just now."

"Qi Ming Wei called for a few things," Zhang Yu Han smiled to ease her mind and decided to change the topic. "How was the shareholders meeting?"

"They are considering to sell the project to another company," Li Qin Yao said. She saw the frown on her husband's face and told him about the situation with QL Group. "The shareholders haven't made their decision yet, but there is a chance that we will have to let the project go."

Zhang Yu Han frowned as he thought about the project that his wife had poured her heart and soul to develop.

Li Qin Yao peeled his arms around her waist and turned around to face him. She raised her arms and linked them on his neck. "Zhang Yu Han, whatever happened later, I hope that you will not pull out your money in the project."

"The hotel building is almost completed. It is something that you and I both worked on. I won't give it away to anyone else."

Li Qin Yao stared at her husband with a dazed look on her face before a laugh escaped. She tiptoed and kiss his jaw.

"What are you up to?" Zhang Yu Han saw the smile on his wife's lips and raised a brow.
