Chapter 166 - Acting like a Proper Neighbor

Han Yue Xiu was staring at the grocery list in her hand, wondering if she knew any of those ingredients. Mother Han was preparing to cook in the kitchen and her father went out to his office for an emergency. Therefore, the task to go out for groceries fell into her hand.

Han Yue Xiu pushed the buŧŧon and waited. Meanwhile, she took out her phone to search look at the items that her mother had written down on the list.

After a few seconds, there was a ringing sound and the elevator door opened.

Once she saw the familiar guy, walking out of the elevator, Han Yue Xiu instinctively made a fighting pose.

"What are you doing?" Song Yi raised a brow as he walked out of the elevator.

Looking at how this girl was acting, Song Yi did not know whether he wanted to get angry or to laugh. He knew that Han Yue Xiu was constantly on guard against him, but he did not expect that she would treat him as if he was a hooligan.

But still… Song Yi found that this part of her was rather cute. Suddenly, he had this urge to pinch both of her cheeks and make a mess of her hair. Maybe then she would look less adorable.

"Nothing," Han Yue Xiu quickly recover herself. She cleared up her throat and tried to walk pass Song Yi to enter the elevator.

"Han Yue Xiu," Just as the door was about to close, Song Yi called out her name and held the elevator door.

"What?" Han Yue Xiu was on guard again.

"I'm going back. I have booked a flight ticket tonight."

"Oh," Han Yue Xiu responded. "You… you're not coming back to S Country, right?"

Song Yi gave her a faint smile. "Since you're not planning to stay here, then I don't have a reason to stay."

Han Yue Xiu half regretted that she had asked him that question.

"Are you happy?"

"You can go wherever you want, it's none of my concern," Han Yue Xiu rolled her eyes. "Then, what about your house? You just bought it, right?"

"It's fine," Song Yi chuckled. "I'll just take it as an investment."

"Well," Han Yue Xiu stared at Song Yi's hand on the elevator door. "I need to get some groceries. My mom would nag if I took too long to come back with that bottle of soy sauce."

Song Yi let out a disappointed sigh as he let down his hand. This was the most decent conversation that they shared recently. Unfortunately, this moment ended too soon.

However, just before the elevator door could close again, Song Yi put his hand back at the door. "Han Yue Xiu, when you come back and you need a job, you can always find me, alright? That offer that I gave you the other day will be open for as long as I live."

Wasn't his words were too exaggerating?

"You have to think it over," Song Yi said as he released his hand from the elevator again. "Han Yue Xiu, I'll wait for you."

The elevator door finally closed and started to descend slowly

Han Yue Xiu stared at the closed door with a mixed feeling.

These past few days, Han Yue Xiu found it rather strange that Song Yi did not come over to pester her. Although Song Yi had apologized, Han Yue Xiu still had this feeling that Song Yi will continue to show up in front of her and her parents.

After working with Song Yi for years Han Yue Xiu was very familiar with his character. Song Yi can be persistent. When he had his eyes on something, Song Yi would work hard for it that sometimes, he would refuse to listen to what others would say.

Perhaps, that was why his company was successful.

Han Yue Xiu was ready to stay a few days in a hotel using the card that her friend's boyfriend had given her. But Song Yi had stayed away from her just as she had requested.

Even if the two of them met outside the door, the most thing Song Yi would do was to greet her politely before he would go on his way. He was acting like a proper neighbor!

Since it was like this, Han Yue Xiu was a bit more relaxed.

These past few days, she had been going around freely without worrying much about her ex-boss.

But still, Han Yue Xiu could not help but wonder why and how did this man change so much?

A person shouldn't be able to change this much in a short period, right?

What happened to Song Yi since the last time that he disappeared?

Han Yue Xiu snapped out of her thought as the elevator reached the ground floor. She stepped out of the building and went to the grocery store a few blocks away from her parents' apartment to get the stuff from the list that her mother had given her.

Once she got everything that she needed, plus a few additional snacks, Han Yue Xiu walked back to the apartment building. She glanced at her wristwatch and noticed that it had taken her almost an hour to shop for groceries.

The mid-autumn festival was around the corner and as the citizen of S Country too celebrated this festival, the grocery was a bit pack with shoppers who went to find the item they needed.

As she walked into the door, Han Yue Xiu could smell the delicious food that her mother was making. They only needed to wait until her father got off work and then, they can all eat together.

"Mom," Han Yue Xiu placed the grocery bag on the dining table before she walked into the kitchen to find her mother. "What are you making? That smell so delicious." She peeked into the pot and saw that the gravy in the pot has almost dried.

Swiftly, Han Yue Xiu turned off the heat and stir the ingredients in the pot to prevent it from burning or sticking.

"Mom. You forgot your dishes on the stove," Han Yue Xiu yelled from the kitchen.

After a few seconds passed, Han Yue Xiu began to notice that something was not right. Her mother should be rushing in into the kitchen to take a look after she had reminded her.

Han Yue Xiu heaved a sigh. She walked around the house and paused when she heard a sound coming from her parents' room.

She stood still for a while and listened carefully. It sounded like someone was calling her name in a low voice and it was coming from her parents' room.

Seeing that the door was jarred open, Han Yue Xiu peeked into the room and called out her mother's name again for a few times.

When she saw her mother sprawled on the floor, Han Yue Xiu instantly panicked.
