Chapter 6

Isilis lightly hit the glass in response to the man’s words.

“For you who came back alive.”

“For the mercenary girl I met at the resting place.”

They gave each other a toast and handed over drinks.

After that, she drank and chatted, and the time she spent with him wasn’t bad… No, it was rather good. The day got bright as they shared the pain we had on the battlefield together, talked about their sorrows, and talked about their dead colleagues.

Isilis, who was watching the sunlight coming through the window, got up.

“I didn’t even know it was dawning.”

“Me, too.”

The man reclining in his chair seemed unwilling to get up.

“It was fun.”

“Me, too.”

A word from the man caught her as she turned around and left the room.

“Can we have a time like this again next time?”

“Of course.”

Without looking back, she could feel the man smiling as if satisfied hearing her answer. The shaking air was saying yes.

Isilis walked out of her room with a sly smile at the success of her plan. Although it was obviously invisible to him.

‘…He’s remarkably handsome, and his skills are outstanding, and he can communicate well, so it’s perfect. That’s enough.’

As she walked out of the man’s room, happily striding down the hallway and thinking of spending the night together with him, she saw a tall man coming from the other side. However, when he came before her, he held her tight as if trying to block her path before looking at her up and down with a dissatisfied gaze.

‘It must be his subordinate. How dare.’

She flicked her finger lightly at her man’s gaze.

“Kugh…!”

“You have to be careful with your gaze when you’re out of town.”

Casting her light lightning magic, she gave a low warning word. Then, Isilis entered the room allotted to her, seeing the man nodding his head with his eyes wide open as if startled by the unexpected development.

As soon as she entered, she collapsed onto the bed without taking her clothes off. She seemed to be able to sleep comfortably.

Isilis could immediately seduce the man to sleep together with him, but her face did not allow her just an easy night to sleep together. She wasn’t allowed much time, though within that time, she wanted to have a child after some effort.

Even though she didn’t know who it will be, they were still going to be the baby’s father.

‘It’s tiring to try to seduce a man in the right way.’

Not long after, only the sound of her even breathing filled the annex.

“Your Excellency! What is that?”

Berthas, who was lying on the bed, got up again.

“What do you mean, Sir Hector?”

“The woman who has just left this room.”

“Did you see her?”

“If you have eyes, how can you not see her? Why is there a wizard in our quarters!”

“Is there anything wrong with it?”

“No, what if we leave an unknown person in the accommodation where the soldiers in Hillenton are staying! There’s a woman…!”

“You would know if you saw it. That she’s not that easy.”

“….”

Berthas smiled faintly as he looked at Hector who was speechless at his words.

“What, have you already been hit?”

“I just glanced up and down, but who knew she could cast lightning magic!”

“I think it’s fortunate that that was it. You glanced up and down a noble Lady, and it only ended with light lightning magic.”

“Is she noble?”

“Didn’t you feel it?”

“I don’t know!”

“So, you don’t call your eyes, eyes then. Just call them the color of your eyes.”

“Your Excellency—!”

Berthas continued, irrespective of Hector’s fierce and angry expression.

“I’m tired, can I take a rest? As you can see, I couldn’t sleep because I was drinking yesterday.”

“Your Excellency, too. It’s not like that. How can you just drink when you are alone with a woman?”

“I met a comrade who was on the battlefield. I can’t believe you said that. I don’t know what’s going on in your head.”

“Neither do I know what was going on in your head. Where’s this place for a wizard whom you do not even know their identity?”

At Hector’s words, Berthas straightened his posture.

“What if the person is a spy for the Crown Prince or the Emperor?”

“I want to say that they are not great enough to have such a high-level person as a spy.”

“Nevertheless, you have to be careful, Your Excellency.”

“You should stop nagging. Can I sleep now?”

“You won’t listen to what I say, will you?”

“I’m sure I’ll listen to it.”

“What’s the point of just listening?”

“I’m going to listen to you, right?”

“That’s it!”

Hector, aware of his stubbornness, left the place. Berthas, watching his back, fell down on the bed. He was tired.

“Anyway…”

Unable to overcome Berthas’ stubbornness, Hector murmured.

Looking at the woman she had just seen, she didn’t look desperate enough to be a spy on her. Still, it was just in case. Not wanting to see what happened to his captain, Hector hurried to his feet, thinking he would discuss this with his comrades.

When Berthas awoke, it was late in the day when the sun was in the middle of the sky.

“I slept too much.”

Lately, he had never slept this long. It was comfortable.

‘Is it because the time we spent together was enjoyable?’

The woman’s smile that kept coming to mind remained like an afterimage in front of his eyes. He wanted to see her smile more brightly. He could tell from last night’s conversation about her life that resembled him but didn’t resemble him as well.

There must be a reason why such a young woman traveled around the battlefield.

Berthas thought. Perhaps, he could be her sanctuary. He wished it was like that. He wanted to be her fence and protect her life as she traveled through the battlefield.

“…Protect?”

Why did he keep thinking like this when he only saw a girl he met for the first time? Was it because she resembled that child when she was young? Since he had plenty of time, Berthas wanted to know more and thought he should know more.

About her, and his constant attraction to her.

“Ummm.”

With a light moan, Isilis got up from the bed. Her body felt lighter. She could feel the power of the founding Emperor wrapping around her, but she felt much more comfortable than when she was in the Imperial Castle.

Falling asleep without even dreaming, she was just amazed at herself.

“This is the first time…”

It was the first time it had happened since she was a child. She fell asleep without even dreaming.

“Is it because of that man?”

Conversation with the man made her comfortable.

Lightly blowing away her hangover from the wine with magic, Isilis turned her aching head and looked out the window. The sun was already setting. Because she had slept for a long time, hunger came rushing in.

She wanted something to eat, so she hurriedly prepared to go out and she went out the door. However, whether it was a coincidence or he was waiting for her, she ran into the man in the hallway in front of her room.

“You are coming late.”

“So are you.”

“I’m going to dinner… Would you like to go with me?”

“That’s not bad.”

Isilis moved her steps as she grabbed the man’s hand, reaching out as if to escort her.

After that, the two drank for two more days. The more she got to know a man, the more she felt that she should have a child with him.

It was a trip to have her successor, so she must not forget the purpose. A Sword Master… Strong enough to survive on the battlefield. He was a man of nobility who traveled around the battlefield but did not lose himself.

If this man were to become the father of a child, what would the child be like…?

‘At least, a similar child will be born.’

The man asked her, sipping the liquor at the bar. Looking at his darkened gaze, it seemed that the man was thinking similarly to what she was thinking.

“What are you going to do when you’re done drinking?”

“I don’t have any plans yet…”

“Then, will you come with me?”

She seemed to know what the man wanted. And, that was also what Isilis wanted.

The next moment, the strong man’s hand gently grabbed her hand. Was it because his hands were hot…? Her body trembled at the anticipation of something she had never experienced before.

“Are you cold?”

She shook her head at his friendly tone.

The man left the bar, escorting her with a happy smile. His steps were graceful.

As he said earlier about the duty of a knight, at least he must be a high-ranking noble. The atmosphere flowing on the man’s face could not be possessed by ordinary people. Seeing that he was talking about Lady, he seemed to be a fairly high-ranking person.

It was rather good. He was a high-ranking person, so he wouldn’t dwell with it overnight, and at least that, she herself needed an imperial child, so her opponent should be a noble.

‘I like his body quite a bit.’

The man’s tightly woven muscles were something she would only encounter on the battlefield.

“Would you like to go to the annex?”

It was vague to reply to the man with a yes, so she nodded her head. The decision had already been made. She was going to sleep with this guy for a month.

It was different from the Lords who approached her while looking at her eyes at the imperial banquet. He was a man with confidence in himself. He was a good man. He seemed to have quite a bit of force, he seemed to have power, and he seemed to have a position.

‘First of all, he is not an imperial family of the neighboring country… Not even a kingdom… He’s not even savage…’

The hair color was different from anything dangerous. So, thinking that he was good enough to be the father of a child, Isilis opened her mouth cautiously to him.

“…Experience?”

The man had a subtle expression at her words, though she didn’t care as much as she had made up her mind. Once she knew if the man had experience, she would decide. She didn’t like it being hurt.

“Well…”

The smiling face of the man raising the corners of his mouth seemed strangely dangerous.

“Looks like you have experience… That’s good.”

Although she didn’t know what he was thinking by himself, even the vague and dangerous expression on the man’s face attracted Isilis strongly. Before she knew it, she reached the accommodation, and it was she who was walking side by side with the man.

There were a lot of pretty things. She liked the fountain from which the water flows.

Seeing that she liked even the smallest of things, she could feel that her own heart had been greatly relaxed. It was then. The man grabbed her hand and pulled her closer.

“Dangerous…!”

As she was just walking, she almost fell into the brook adorned in the garden.

Isilis’s heart pounded loudly as his hand gripped her tightly by the waist. Who dared to grab the Empress’ body? Since close contact like this was rare, she was once again taken aback for a moment. It was the second time for this man after the Port.

“Ah…”

Confused, she gazed up at him. However, in the eyes of the man who was staring at her, there was passion as if a hot flame had been transferred.

In those eyes, she unconsciously inhaled her breath.

‘…Huhp, this feeling of being eaten.’

“Be careful.”

“…Thank you.”

When Isilis expressed her gratitude, the man stretched his well-groomed lips and smiled. The man’s smile was warm and flutteringly cool.

‘Wait, he is cool?’

For her, coolness had always been about strength. Of course, she liked the man’s power. She also liked the stubbornness peeking out of the man’s face. Nevertheless, even this man’s small smile made her fall in love.

“Then, let’s go.”

Isilis moved her steps, following the man who moved his steps again as he released her waist. The place they arrived was in front of his accommodation. Hers was just right around the corner.

“Here is…”

“It’s in front of my room.”

“I know.”

“You’ve been here many times already.”

“That’s right.”

In the hallway where she met the man’s subordinate, she hesitated. She had already been in and out of a man’s room for several days. But, why was her heart beating like this…?

The man grabbed her chin and pointed her face playfully as she seemed to stumble. The wind almost touched her lips.

“You’re not going to back off and go now.”

“Who… Who…”

Isilis opened her mouth, startled by the growling man’s whispers. When his breath touched her, she paused for a moment.

“Huff!”

Her neat and closed lips were attacked by the lips engulfed in heat.
