Marcus laughed, sensing Rachel's uneasiness. She was avoiding him like the plague.

"Of course, I know that you're already married, and with two kids at that." He paused, his tone lowering. "If the circumstances were different, nothing would have stopped me."

No one knew more intimately than him what it was like to live in a house that had been branded with lies and betrayals: silences bounced off the walls at dinnertime, words turning to daggers, and marriages bound by nothing else but a piece of paper. After all, he lived and grew up in one such house, but it had never been a home. It was with this knowledge that he restrained himself from doing any reckless thing and ruining a family.

Rachel's head shot up at his words, pondering over what they meant.

She repeated the words in her head and came to a sudden realization.

Nothing had happened between them that night.

She stared at Marcus, her eyes reflecting her shock.

"What do you mean? That night, you didn't..." She was unable to finish her words. It was as if a heavy load that had been gnawing at her had dissolved at his words. The knowledge that she only belonged to Hiram, and that no man had touched her save for him, swept her over with relief.

"You can ask Hiram. He sent people to check the sheets of the room we stayed at. If something really happened, they would have found something, but they didn't," Marcus said, thinking at the back of his mind that he wouldn't be able to keep anything from Hiram, anyway. That man always had a way to know the truth of things.

Rachel was even more surprised when she learned that Hiram had already known about this.

Why didn't he tell her?

"Now, can you forgive me?" he asked, looking at Rachel who was still absorbed in her own questions.

For a moment, she didn't answer. She kept thinking about how guilt had tormented her after that night. Now that she knew nothing happened, she was immensely relieved.

"Rachel?" Marcus said again, when she didn't answer. "Can you forgive me?"

It was only when Marcus drew her closer that Rachel became conscious of her surroundings again. She found herself standing right in front of him, too close for her liking. She narrowed her eyes at him and pushed him away. "Fine. Since you told me the truth and you respected my being married, I'll agree to help you decorate this house," she said.

"But after this, we don't owe anything to each other and we stay put of each other's lives," she finished, her gaze unwavering.

Marcus frowned upon her. There were footsteps coming up the stairs. He shot a quick glance at their directions, and then looked back at Rachel, saying, "Really? If that's the way you want things, then…" He closed the distance between them and leaned down. "What do you think would ha

Falling from nobility, Zen Luo became a humble slave and served as a human punchbag for his former cousins. Inadvertently, he found a way to refine himself into a weapon and a legend started because of that. With a strong belief in never surrender, he strove for revenges and pursued big dreams. Warriors from various clans contended for hegemony and the world was stirred. Relying on the body that was comparable to a powerful weapon, Zen beat his numerous enemies on his way to the immortality. Would he succeed eventually?

, thinking it over for a little while. "I've never called him with anything special. I just call him names sometimes because he is such a wicked man, and sometimes too aggressive, like a wolf."

Celine laughed out loud upon hearing Rachel. She gave a thumbs up and said, "Wow. Very interesting. Mr. Rong is indeed like a powerful and overbearing wolf!"

Rachel looked at her friend. She had a bright aura around her and her laughter tinkled the bells. Celine was in a great deal of pain for a long time, but now, finally, all the unpleasant things seemed to be gone with the past and she was glowing with joy at the present, and maybe even in the future, it seemed, with the news of her coming marriage to Hardy.

At the thought of this, Rachel smiled. She was glad to be a part of this happy time in her friend's life.

After she finished work in the afternoon, Rachel glanced at her watch. On other days, she would be hurrying home to see her kids and her family. However, since Jonny and Joyce were at their grandmother's house and Fannie also took this chance to return to the XH Village, she didn't feel like going back just yet.

It would be a little lonely to return to an empty house.

She took her phone and called Hiram. "Hiram, where are you?" Rachel asked, after getting through to him.

She decided to ask about his plans for tonight first, after thinking about what to do.

It would be good if they could go home together tonight.

While talking to him, she heard background noises she couldn't make out. He seemed to be in a place with a lot of people.

"I'm at the hospital now. Lydia might wake up. Mother and father are also here. You can come over if you have time," Hiram said over the phone. He rushed there after he received the news.

Rachel was stunned for a moment by his words. Then she said, "Okay. I'll go there now."
