Chapter 34 - Grandma's Choice

Selene said goodbye to Eros before leaving her room. She would sleep in her grandma's room tonight while Eros would either sleep in Selene's room or just wander around, watching the night sky and the stars again. That was his favorite pastime.

But since he would be staying in the human world for several months, he also needed to condition his body to act like a human. Sleeping was also a good option.

Though he was an immortal heavenly being who could stay up without sleeping and eating for several days, his mind and body still needed to rest. So he chose to sleep tonight and rest.

Besides, traveling back and forth between the human world and the angel's realm drained his energy a little. He had to take a rest and recharge his energy and strength.

Eros lay down on the bed, staring at the white ceiling. Then he suddenly recalled his last conversation with Selene just a moment ago.

Unknowingly, a gentle smile already touched the corners of his lips as his eyes twinkled with a glint of humor. Soon, a soft chuckle bubbled up in Selene's room.

Eros couldn't help but laugh as he remembered Selene's funny and cute expression the moment he finished relaying Micaela's and Mr. M's phone conversation with her.

She was blushing at that time with a shocked and embarrassed expression on her lovely face.

"Selene looks very cute a while ago. She is the one who is as innocent as a child, not me." Eros mumbled to himself, letting out a soft chuckle.

Then he recalled another amusing thing about Selene. "She'd never acted intimately with Renz… does it mean... they haven't kissed each other yet?"

Another husky laugh escaped Eros's mouth at that thought. "No wonder she looked very embarrassed when I said those words."

'Sigh, Why do I feel like teasing her using my adult form? I wonder how she will react.'

Meanwhile, Selene just reached her grandma's bedroom. She gently knocked at the door before speaking up.

"Grandma, this is Selene. Are you still awake?" She softly mumbled, calling Grandma Elysa.

Then she heard the sound of her grandma's footsteps inching closer to the door. Soon, Grandma Elysa opened the door for her, greeting her with a loving smile.

"Selene, why are you still awake? Come inside," said she, while pulling her hand as they stepped inside her bedroom.

"Grandma, I know I am already an adult and it is too childish to do this but I don't care. Can I sleep here in your room with you?" She said to her grandma with her pleading look.

Grandma Elysa giggled, pinching her nose. "Silly girl. You don't have to ask permission from me. Of course, you can and I would love that. Though you are already a grown woman, you will always be my little Selene, my one and only princess."

Selene immediately hugged her grandma. She felt the warmth of her grandma's love for her.

"Oh, Grandma… you are still the same… my sweet and loving grandmother. The best grandma in the whole world. Thank God, He chose me to be your granddaughter. I'm so lucky to have you." Selene was becoming sentimental once again.

"I should be the one to feel grateful, heaven allowed me to become your grandmother. I'm the lucky one because every time I will see you smile, it gives meaning to my life." Grandma Elysa felt emotional as well.

She embraced Selene tightly while rubbing her back.

"Grandma, have I ever told you that I love you so much? If not yet then let me tell you how much I love you."

Grandma Elysa let out another giggle. "Hmmm, really, then how much?"

"Hmmm, tomorrow look at the sky Grandma, my love for you is equal to the measurement of the distance between the sky above us and the earth below us!"

"Hahaha, you silly girl! You know how to flatter an old woman like me. Tell me, are you just saying this because you have done something wrong or you need a favor from me?"

Selene pouted her lips and gazed up to see her grandma's face. She wanted to complain.

"You don't believe me, grandma? I'm telling you the truth. That's how I truly felt." Selene put up a pitiful face.

Grandma Elysa caressed her cheeks while looking at her tenderly. "I'm just teasing you. Of course, I believe you. And I am truly touched by your words."

"But you know what, Selene. My love for you is immeasurable. It can't be measured by anything."

Now, it was Selene's turn to giggle. "Grandma, I can never win against you. You beat me again with your sweet words."

The grandmother and granddaughter duo ended up laughing together. They looked so happy even though they only had each other now. Selene's parents and her grandfather were gone.

After they were done laughing and teasing each other, Selene and Grandma Elysa had gone to bed.

Selene was the first one who fell asleep. Grandma Elysa watched Selene's sleeping face and profound sadness was depicted on her face.

"Oh, my dearest Selene, what should grandma do now? How can I leave you behind? I hope you will stay strong once I'm gone."

Grandma Elysa's tears started to fall down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, granddaughter. This grandma will have to leave you alone. But I know, Renz and his family will take good care of you."

"Seeing Micaela makes me at ease. At least, you have a friend to whom you can lean on in difficult times."

"I wish to be with you for long and see my great-grandchild grow. But it seems that heaven will not allow me to live longer and stay by your side."

Grandma Elysa was already aware of her cancer but she chose to hide it from Selene because she didn't want her to be sad and to worry about her.

A few months ago Grandma Elysa was already diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer. Her doctor advised her to undergo chemotherapy but there's still no guarantee she would survive.

Since she was already old, her body might suddenly collapse during the treatment and she would just become weaker. More complications might also happen.

With that consideration, Grandma Elysa decided not to do the treatment. Though her days would be numbered she would be able to spend her remaining days with Selene without worrying her too much.

If she took the treatment before then she would be stuck in the hospital. Grandma Elysa didn't want that.

After all, there still no guarantee that she would survive. She's already old and weak to withstand that heavy treatment.

Furthermore, Grandma Elysa was worried that Selene would be sad every day seeing her in the hospital. She didn't want Selene to undergo that pain. So she made this choice.
