The knowledge in the intermediate skill book happened to be a continuation of the elementary trainer skills. It was the advanced level of making demon balls.

Cao Yan had already grasped the technique of crafting an elementary demon ball as a reward for capturing Eggy.

The elementary demon ball could only be used to capture demons.

On the other hand, the more advanced demon ball had certain characteristics. For example, one should use a demon ball with fire characteristics to better control a fire demon beast, a demon ball with water characteristics to better control a water demon beast, and so on.

A characteristic demon ball would provide a better resting place for the demon beast, helping it grow and evolve faster. It was, therefore, a necessary item for a trainer.

When Cao Yan captured Eggy, he used a pure black dark characteristic demon ball.

Of course, Eggy did not belong to this world, so it was not the same as the local demon beasts. It was unwilling to stay in the demon ball and preferred to move around outside. It was also a master at hunting.

The intermediate skill book explained how to make characteristic demon balls. It involved a lot of uses of cryptography to direct characteristic powers.

Different characteristic powers would require different cryptography.

The cryptography knowledge in the book was highly complicated. Cao Yan was so immersed in the book that he overlooked the flying time.

When he finished the entire book, it slowly disappeared.

“Ding!” A notification suddenly rang in his consciousness, which made Cao Yan, who was submerged in the sea of knowledge, jump in shock. A screen interface appeared in front of him, and the words on it wrote:

[Mission] Prelude 1: Capture and Survive!

[Mission Requirements] Enter the Everlasting Forest with your demon pet and use your self-made demon balls to capture at least five demon beasts. Your survival time in the forest is not allowed to exceed 24 hours.

[Timeline] Enter the forest within three days

[Reward] 100 mission points. Failure will result in the deduction of the same number of points.

A new mission was released so quickly. Cao Yan noticed the name of the mission, “Prelude 1”. It meant that there might be a 2 next, or even more.

“Enter the forest and capture demon beasts.” Cao Yan could guess the fake system’s intention for setting this mission. Now that he had a shop, he should catch a few demon beasts. He could practice his skills as a trainer and, at the same time, use the beasts to replenish the stock—what a perfect cycle.

However, the mission required him to make his own demon balls, but he did not have a single material needed.

Thankfully, he had enough time to spare. He had to enter the forest within three days, so he could use one to two days for preparation.

Cao Yan thought: The Pet Trainer Association should have all the materials.

He took a look at the time. It was already afternoon.

Cao Yan went downstairs. The moment he took a step out, Eggy, lying still at the side, moved with him, disappearing into his shadow.

On the first floor of the shop.

Other than Wang Li and the three sales assistants, the previous owner’s niece was around as well. The previous owner had promised Cao Yan that she would leave her niece to help Cao Yan for a few days. In that way, he could familiarize himself with the shop’s accounting.

The previous owner’s niece looked puzzled at the moment. She asked the little sparrow, “You mean the shop made almost 400 thousand in the morning? Hehe, as if.”

The little sparrow chirped merrily, unable to conceal her excitement, “Why would I lie to you? The new boss brought two demon eggs with the potential to reach stage four this morning. His… sister quickly sold one for 350 thousand. Besides, our shop had way more customers than usual the entire morning. We have completed four transactions until now. I closed one of the deals, and we have made a total of around 385 thousand.”

The little sparrow counted the morning’s earnings with her fingers and retold the entire shop’s sales situation quickly.

The previous owner’s niece did not really buy her words. She followed the little sparrow’s line of sight and looked at Wang Li. Her first reaction was the same as the little sparrow; she did not like that vixen, who would make one feel the unfairness of life.

The little sparrow no longer felt that way towards the vixen now.

It was actually quite good to have the vixen around. For the entire morning, the moment the passersby glanced inside the shop and saw the vixen, seven out of ten would walk in. The remaining three were women.

The reason they could have such a high sales volume in the morning was not just because of the two Ocean Peng eggs the new boss brought in, but also because of the vixen’s existence.

Now that business had slightly changed for the better, the little sparrow also managed to sell a beastling. Therefore, she was in a good mood and would naturally see the vixen in a new light.

“I’m going out for a while. You can just go through the accounts with my… sister,” Cao Yan told the previous owner’s niece. He glanced at Wang Li and left, making his way to the Pet Trainer Association.

The Pet Trainer Association was also located in the city center and was actually quite close to the shop.

Cao Yan strolled for around three to four minutes before the tall pentagon building appeared in his vision. He took out his badge, put it on, and entered the building.

Since Examiner Xu had recommended him into the association, he would have to greet her upon arriving.

Examiner Xu was still in that examination hall, still in that familiar seat and dressing, pulling a stern and straight face.

There was no one else in the hall. It seemed as though all the exam halls were full. The invigilators under Examiner Xu were all in the exam halls, conducting the tests.

When she saw Cao Yan enter, an involuntary smile crept onto Examiner Xu’s face. Cao Yan had left a deep impression on her in his test. That was why she offered to recommend him to join the association.

Cao Yan walked over and greeted Examiner Xu. After that, he went straight to the point, “Examiner Xu, I have something to ask you. I am preparing to enter the forest to capture some wild demon beasts. I want to make some demon balls to bring with me so that I can practice my skills. Where can I get some better quality demon ball materials?”

Examiner Xu was pleased to hear Cao Yan’s words. She liked it when youngsters strived to improve themselves and hoped that this profession could get better and better.

What Cao Yan said was a sign that he wanted to improve himself. Going to the forest to capture wild demons meant that he was brave and not afraid of danger. On top of that, he wanted to enhance his skills and make his own demon balls. Which part did not sound like he wanted to improve?

Cao Yan’s words were the highest level of bootlicking. It did not sound like bootlicking, yet it could lift one’s mood up.

The scene happening right now was clear evidence.

Examiner Xu, who was in her fifties, smiled radiantly. “It’s a good thing that you want to capture wild demons. Youngsters should toughen up. If you want materials to make demon balls, you can ask for them at the logistics department. Just tell them I sent you there.”

“Alright. Please carry on with whatever you were doing. I’ll drop by again another time,” Cao Yan said as he left.

Examiner Xu smiled and said gently, “Run along.”

Cao Yan turned around and headed for the logistics department without delay.
