Chapter 233 - WHO IS YOUR SON?

Valkyrie and Brown were glued on the ground. Brown's hand that Valkyrie was holding started to tremble and he could feel the cold sweat on it.

"Dad." Valkyrie called out to his father. There was the slightest fear, anxiety and surprise in his voice. He pulled Brown close to him and let him stand behind him.

"Here you are. Evan!" Dr. Anderson used Brown's real name this time.

When he said his name, Brown thought that his soul flew out of his body, summoned by the devil who was walking towards him. Every step he took was like a bag of sand being placed on his chest, heavy and it was making him breath heavily.

For the very first time in his life, he feared Dr. Anderson, the man who took him in and cared for him when his parents didn't.

Brown saw Dr. Anderson threw a deathly glare at Valkyrie and pushed Valkyrie away to see him stand in front of him.

"Evan, did he do anything to you? Did he force you to live with him? Did he do anything against your will?" Dr. Anderson asked him while holding his shoulders, shaking him lightly in each question he uttered.

Brown's face paled and he didn't know what Dr. Anderson was saying. He seemed to not hear him and he was getting dizzy. He thought it would be okay to face him now than later but, he was still unprepared and his back was wet from cold sweat.

"Evan? Evan?" Dr. Anderson called in urgency, snapping him back to reality. When he couldn't get any answer from Brown, he turned to Valkyrie and scolded him. "What the hell did you do to him? Why isn't he answering me? You must have done something against his will?! This is why I don't want you stay alone with him! Where's Winter?"

Brown was really confused. He thought Dr. Anderson was making a mistake so he chose to speak up for Valkyrie's sake. "Dr. Anderson, are you mistaking for something? Shouldn't you be asking those questions to your son? Why are you more concern about me?"

"It is because HE IS my son that is why I am asking you. I know him too well and I couldn't let you stay with this sly fox. I am worried that he would force himself on you." Dr. Anderson answered him patiently before giving Valkyrie another piercing glare. If his glares can cut someone, his son would be a pile of meat already.

"Aren't you worried that I might be the one forcing him to stay with me, doing something against his will and coercing him to live with me?" Brown asked him the same question that he asked earlier. He was really confused with what was going on.

Dr. Anderson looked at him for a full minute before sighing deeply. "Looks like I was worried for nothing." he mumbled softly that both Brown and Valkyrie looked at him in confusion. "Don't ask me anything anymore. I know my son since years ago but I didn't know you have the same feeling as well."

"Wait Dad. You are not here to take me away?" Valkyrie asked in surprise but his grin was already spreading from ear to ear.

Dr. Anderson knocked his son's forehead lightly. "I am here to take Evan, not you."

"Who is really your son? Me or Evan?" Valkyrie had his arms cross on his chest while asking his father.

"Evan. You are the adopted one so behave yourself." Dr. Anderson joked with him which lightened the atmosphere. "Aren't you going to invite me in? Do you want me to freeze here to death and take Evan away?"

Brown smiled for the first time after seeing the man in front of him. His anxiety was gone and he could only feel the warmth of a parent that he never once have until he came to pick him up.

"Let's get inside. It's getting dark and cold already." Brown led him in and since he didn't turn back to see the two people behind him, he didn't see them sizing up one another. Not how a father and son would really act during reunion.

Brown would never forget the day he met the man who changed his life. He was an orphan and most of his time was spent on medical books inside the orphanage's library. He was really interested in human anatomy and he tried to learn as much as he can from the book.

Sadly, the orphanage caught fire due to some unknown reason. At that time, he was still inside the library and the fire wasn't that big. He took off his shirt and tied both ends of his sleeve and put the medical books inside. He put as much as he can carry and went out of the orphanage.

Dr. Anderson saw the burning place when he was going home. Seeing the children and nuns crying and running around, he went to them and help. It was at that time that he saw Even hugging the pile of books inside a shirt, calm and collected like the things happening around him had nothing to do with him.

Dr. Anderson attended to those wounded children and nuns to make sure that their wound won't get infected. He always bring his first aid kit bag with him full of medical stuff. When Brown saw what were the things inside, he approached Dr. Anderson, dragging the books behind him.

"Can I use your antibiotic ointment and your gauze and your scissors and your scotch tape?" Evan asked him in his soft voice while looking at the things inside Dr. Anderson's bag.

He gave him what he needed and just turned back to attending the other children. Ambulance and firefighters came to their rescue after few minutes as well.

Young Evan approached the librarian who always teach him many things whenever he was in the library. "Sister, I will help you with your wound." Evan spoke to the old librarian, still dragging the shirt with books behind him.
