Chapter 129 - LIEUTENANT COLONEL AVERY II

From that day onwards, whenever a training commence, they would see her having a close combat with Brown. If it was their vacant time, they would see them talking under the flame tree, laughing the worries of the world away from them.

"You don't have to train him so hard, you know." Major General Calhoun spoke to her one time.

"Why not? I don't see anything wrong with what I'm doing. He needed to protect himself. He can't just trust his life to anyone."

"Oi! Oi! That's too much. Just because it happened to you, doesn't mean it will happen to everyone else."

"Right. It might not happen to everyone but it already happened to him. I am taking care of him as a brother. I won't let him put his life in the hands of others." She made a respectful salute and left with a stern face.

She looked for Brown and found him talking to his teammates. They were Savannah and Hawk. There was something in the air around them that made her felt assured and safe. She thought of making exceptions this time.

She did her own investigation and found their real identity. Savannah was often called princess by Hawk and everyone thought it was just an endearment. Unknown to them, Savannah or Taira Azumi was the fifth princess of Japan.

To avoid getting tangled with the fight for power, her mother declared her dead with a different person's body. She was then sent abroad and raised under the Schniezel Knight's family a.k.a Hawk.

Avery felt it was time to test them if she could actually leave Brown to the team. She asked Major General Calhoun to send them to different missions together. She just didn't expect that Valkyrie would be coming with them.

"Why did you send Valkyrie with them? I only wanted the three of them." She confronted Major General Calhoun in his office. She was so angry she wanted to kick him. "Explain this to me uncle."

"I didn't want him to go but he insisted. He even came to my office to personally add him."

"You could've said no."

"Why do you hate him so much? Did he do anything to you?"

"Nope! He just looked like a scum making me hate him so much." She said through gritted teeth.

"Stop judging people." Major General Calhoun responded. "He isn't like your fiance at all."

"How did you know? Did you think people will come and tell you that 'Hey, I'm a scum.'? Of course they won't. Don't let them fool you."

"Stop it Winter! I trust my men! Don't drag them down because of your hate." His voice rose, surprising her. This was the first time he scolded her.

"Whatever." She rolled her eyes and left without saluting to him.

He could only sigh to himself. He couldn't blame her either. She was in love. She was promised a marriage of happiness. She stayed loyal to him. She trusted him. She gave her heart to him.

When the world fell apart, she didn't even know where to start picking her heart. She even almost lost her life.

A month later, almost everyone knew about their break up and no one came to comfort her. They all thought she's strong and tough, forgetting the fact that she's a human, a woman, who would also felt pain in her heart.

Except for Travis. When he learned about what happened, he searched for her. He looked for her for almost two days until he found her drowning in alcohol. If it wasn't for his connection, she would've died from alcohol poisoning.

Travis brought her home and took care of her. When he was training at the military, it was her who took care of him. Now, it was his turn to do the same task.

He let her sleep and cooked some hangover soup for her. When she woke up, it felt like a new world was opened to her. She felt like everything was clear in front of her. A smile formed in her lips.

"Right. I'm tough." She murmured and went out of her room. Despite the headache, she faced Travis with a smile.

"Are you okay?" Travis asked in worry.

"I'm perfectly fine." She sat down on a chair and faced him. "I am not kind, you know."

"I know. What took you so long to realize?" He agreed with her sarcastic remarks.

"Hey RV, I just remembered. I am actually the reason for his business to grow up. Shouldn't I be the reason for it to fall? You know what I mean?"

"Will you be happy after ruining them?"

"At least, it can compensate the pain I felt these past few days."

"Okay."

As simple as that. The next two days, her fiance lost all his assets and money. His company declared bankruptcy and nobody dared helping him.

She only snickered and left to go back to the camp. 'In this world, I can be selfish. Since I couldn't kill, I will just ruin him.' That's what she thought.

Now, she felt extremely happy after she overcame such hurdle in life. Even if it was difficult for her to trust anyone, it's good enough that she's got few people on her side.

They continued checking what's inside the box and arranged them on the coffee table.

"I brought different hair colors. Which one do you like?"

"Why don't we just put that aside for now? Your food has been cold since earlier." Brown reminded her and eyed the food that he covered on the table.

"Ooppss. Hahaha. I will eat now." She ran back to the dining table and heated her food.

Looking at her cheerfulness, Brown knew that she's moved on from what happened years ago.

"When can I do the same thing?" He whispered to himself. "If only I could change the past. I wouldn't dare do such thing."

Avery looked at him staring into space, looking sad and regretful. She knew exactly that look. She had been there after all.

Forgetting someone you once loved is really difficult.
