Chapter 217 - Teamwork

It was deep into the night before Han Qingshan and Zhou Yan finished their conversation.

They had agreed on dealing with the Mu family together, but since it was going to be more than just a mere pressuring but a full out war, many things had to be planned first.

Han Qingshan was exhausted when he finally dragged his body into his bedroom, but what greeted him made all the exhaustion vanish.

Jiang Yingyue was sleeping soundly in his bed. Her hair, with extensions, was spread over the pillow, her white face so beautiful in the moonlight that fell through the crack in the blinds in front of the windows.

She seemed as if she had tried waiting for him but had unknowingly fallen asleep. Seeing her like this, he felt all the efforts he put into it were worth it.

As he took off his clothes, his eyes did not leave the sleeping figure on the bed, and when he dressed in his pajamas, he quickly dug under the duvet.

His arms reached out and picked up the sleeping beauty, putting her into his embrace before he placed a kiss on her forehead.

For this woman, he would do anything, even if that meant that he would become a devil. He was also willing to fight against the number one underground gang in the world for her.

Soon after, the calming floral scent that was exclusive to Jiang Yingyue made Han Qingshan fall into a deep sleep.

The next few days were uneventful. Nothing much happened, Han Qingshan went to university and the Han Corporation to work. Jiang Yingyue would go to the office in the morning and work until Han Qingshan showed up. Then she would work even harder when he was there, and they would go home together at night.

Their life had become very stable and filled with happiness. Every night, Han Qingshan would drag her for 'exercise', and Jiang Yingyue would fall asleep right after, exhausted and drained of all energy.

It was at these times, before going to sleep, that Han Qingshan and Zhou Yan would contact one another on the phone to plan further and to give updates on their progress.

"Han Qingshan, I admire you," Zhou Yan signed, "I hate you, but I cannot help but admire you. I heard that three of the top leaders in the Mu family got arrested yesterday for drug smuggling. Even if they want to get free by using their connections, it's impossible."

"This is nothing compared to you," Han Qingshan was modest, as he was reminded of the actions Zhou Yan had made the day before. "Although I got three of them sent to jail, I heard that a whole load of weapons they were smuggling vanished and that their customer was so furious that he had not only demanded to get the money back with compensation, but he also wanted someone to take responsibility. This will harm them a lot."

The two were praising one another, but where they before would have done it to annoy the other, now it was heartfelt.

Although they were not keen on the other person, they had found deeply rooted respect towards each other.

Suddenly a silence lingered in the phone before Zhou Yan finally took the courage to ask. "How is she doing?"

There was no need to say who 'she' was, and Han Qingshan was quiet for a long time too. He respected Zhou Yan, and there was no need to harm him unnecessarily.

"She is good," he answered honestly. "She is sleeping right now; she got exhausted after working all day."

Although he was not lying, he still felt a little bit guilty in his heart. It was not the work that was tiring her out, but Zhou Yan did not need to know that.

"That's good."

"I plan on making her become a junior at Imperial University next year," Han Qingshan continued. "I have already signed her up to retake the high school exams, this time in her own name. It is a new beginning for her, and she will be able to live as herself in the future."

"I understand why she picked you," Zhou Yan finally said with a sigh. "I am glad that she got you, but if you ever wrong her, if you ever harm her or hurt her, then I will come and take her away from you, even if I have to force her."

"Deal," Han Qingshan quickly agreed. "I will never do anything to harm her, hurt her, or let her down. She will be the only woman I have in this life, and I will be with her forever, even my soul will never leave her."

Zhou Yan sighed when he heard this, but there was not only sadness within the sigh, there also seemed to be some relief.

Han Qingshan's respect for Zhou Yan grew even more then. Would he really be able to give up on Jiang Yingyue if he was the one standing on the side? He was not sure, but he knew that it would be immensely hard.

Just as they were sitting on the phone, with silence on both sides, an email ticked in to both Han Qingshan and Zhou Yan.

"It seems they finally realized who has targeted them," Han Qingshan said with a sinister smile on his lips.

The email was sent from the Mu family leaders, asking how the Mu family had offended the two leading families in the world.. It was written politely, but both Zhou Yan and Han Qingshan could sense the tremendous anger that was hidden beneath the exterior of the email.
