"I'm sorry for what I said to you just now." Ethon could not help looking away. At the moment, he felt a sense of guilt that made it difficult for him to look his father directly in the eye.

Malcolm smiled and said, "Don't worry about it, my silly boy. We're family, and we'll always be bound by blood, no matter how many fights we get into. At least, now I know your mother's situation. I will take her to the hospital tomorrow for some additional tests."

"Are you going to try to convince her to get treated?"

"Yes. She needs to get treated. I will take her to undergo more tests to see the spread of the cancer cells in her body. Medicine has been constantly advancing. There has to be a way to cure your mother. If we don't find a way here, we'll take her abroad for treatment. As long as there's a glimmer of hope, I won't give up on your mother," Malcolm answered seriously, a gleam of hopeful determination shining in his eyes.

Ethon's eyes were still a bit dim, like a dark, starless night sky.

The conversation between father and son stopped. The plate beside the barbecue grill was already full of meat skewers.

Not far away, two women in sweaters were slowly walking toward them. Ethon saw that Fiona was holding Monica's arm affectionately, and each of them held a wishing bottle in their hands. Ethon squinted at them and watched them get closer and closer.

Fiona and Ethon looked at each other and felt that the atmosphere turned awkward and heavy all of a sudden.

The two of them made eye contact, and Fiona immediately walked to Ethon and said with a smile, "Ethon, Mom and I made two wishing bottles, but we're not tall enough to hang them up ourselves. Can you help us hang them on the tree?"

"All right. No problem." Ethon nodded.

Monica wanted to go with her son and daughter-in-law, but Ethon stopped her. "You stay here, Mom. Fiona and I will go hang the wishing bottles," he said.

Monica hesitated for a moment as if she was worried that her son would peep into her wishing bottle.

Fiona had a sense of what was going through Monica's mind. She carefully reached out her hand and gently said to her mother-in-law, "Mom, there's glue on the cap of the wishing bottle. Once it's sealed, it can'

utline of her face was still very tight and youthful. She chewed the roast chicken wings and swallowed them. Then, she smiled with satisfaction and said, "Yummy, so yummy."

They had been married for so many years, but this was the first time that Malcolm had barbecued for Monica. With that in mind, Monica could not help feeling a little sad.

"Honey, do you have anything you want to tell me?" Malcolm suddenly asked.

Monica was so stunned that she almost choked on her food. She gazed at Malcolm in confusion and answered, "No. I don't know what you're talking about, dear."

"Okay. I just want to make sure. If there's nothing you want to tell me, then just forget I asked." Malcolm reached out his hand and gently caressed Monica's beautiful, well-maintained face. The affection in his eyes was so new to Monica.

Monica swallowed the large piece of meat in her mouth loudly. She looked at Malcolm blankly and then turned away. She continued eating without saying anything. After swallowing another piece of meat, she suddenly had a strange realization.

Malcolm normally only used terms of endearment for her when there were other people around. But today, no one was around them, and he still called her "honey." It took a minute to occur to her, and it surprised her a lot. She had been waiting for him to call her that for so many years without people being around, but, for some inexplicable reason, she did not feel as satisfied as she had hoped when she finally heard it.
