"You are a fool. I was just kidding," Mandy said stiffly, the corners of her mouth twitching. Her tone clearly lacked confidence.

Nathan's thin lips curved into a smile so faint it was almost imperceptible, yet when he spoke it was in a rather grave tone. "You can suspect other men, but not me. You know what happened between us these past few years. It really hurts me when you doubt me..."

It had never occurred to Mandy that a proud and arrogant man like Nathan would say something to direct and make himself look so vulnerable. Her heart melted in an instant. She felt like she had candy stuffed in her mouth.

"Nathan..." Mandy spoke quietly, forming the words in her head.

"Yes...here I am. You can say whatever you want to say. I'm listening very carefully." Nathan's magnetic voice was soothing, relieving Mandy of her discomfort.

Mandy thought about all the people she had dated until now. Although Daniel was her first love, it was rather a well-planned act. Thinking about it now, she realized he was a really toxic man. Even though he was in the past now, there was still a shadow of him in Mandy's heart.

Since she had begun to live with Nathan, she always had this idea in her head that their relationship was somewhat illusory. Whenever Nathan was warm to her, Mandy started trying to restrain her own feelings. But inadvertently, she had fallen in love with him. It was later that she began to dodge, unwilling to accept that she loved him ... but it was already too late by then.

In her heart, she was insecure about being abandoned. Because of this reason, she thought it was best never to get emotionally attached to anyone in the first place. The littlest of things made her overthink and question herself.

But being with him had spoiled her. She was loved and doted on by him to such an extent that now she had started acting like a princess. She found she could no longer fall for another man in her life.

"I know that love is like a moth darting into fire, but can you really blame the moth for it? I'm so persistently in love with you, Nathan. Whether we can be together in the end or not, I

even threatened to kill Ouyang if he didn't finish developing the antidote in time. But he was also an important person. Sometimes, in order to untie a knot, you need the person who tied it in the first place.

With Elizabeth's arrival, they seemed to see the light of dawn. No matter how dark the night is, it eventually always passes.

Nathan and Mandy got out of the car and entered the castle together. The atmosphere inside was rather gloomy. There were antique paintings on the walls. The decor, too, was classic in nature.

As Mandy walked alongside Nathan, she felt a blast of cold air hit her. She crossed her arms against her chest, the hair on her body raising. In a somewhat stiff tone, she asked, "Nathan... Why do I feel so cold here?"

Nathan smirked and answered in a mocking tone, "Don't worry. There are no ghosts here. Only the private doctors of the Jin Family live here. They like this kind of bleakness in the air, so all the walls have invisible air conditioners in them. We just came in, so we feel cold."

Mandy calmed down as soon as Nathan finished talking. She thought about the castle for a while. The air felt rather like that of an operating room; no wonder she felt so gloomy.

Mandy followed Nathan to the end of the corridor. Every few meters, there were bodyguards standing at the sides of the corridor. They greeted both Nathan and Mandy enthusiastically as they passed them by.
