"I'll believe whatever you tell me," she said calmly.

"Damian committed suicide and took away his parents' life," Nathan said truthfully. He couldn't help but let his heart ache at the thought of his cousin again, but he suppressed it. He was good at hiding his feelings.

Mandy couldn't help but snigger to herself. Damian wasn't a fool. He wouldn't dare commit such an act. He was handsome, young, and incredibly rich. In fact, he could have had the whole world at his feet. It's impossible!

"Why did he do it?" she asked tentatively.

Nathan tensed for a second before relaxing.

If he said that Mandy was the reason why Damian committed suicide, she would feel guilty. In fact, she might not be able to live with herself upon knowing that. Besides, Damian and his family's death was related to him. It was better that he was the one who shouldered the pain that went with it.

"The autopsy report proved that Damian had been having episodic fits from his depression before his death. He had an overdose," he explained indifferently.

Although Nathan's explanation seemed believable, it just didn't sit right with her. She had also checked up on Damian back when he was still alive. How could such a healthy and broad-minded young man have depression? She didn't believe it for a second.

"You really had nothing to do with it?" Mandy's finger twitched at the thought of accusing Nathan.

"Even a vicious tiger wouldn't eat its cubs. They were my family. Even if I have the ability to kill them, I wouldn't have the heart to do so." Nathan's voice became colder. However, he managed to hold back his

true love and not Sharon.

"In our memory," she corrected. "Back then, you approached me because of her, didn't you? I don't know what you were thinking. We don't even look alike." At that time, Mandy had always wondered why Nathan had approached her. It turned out that she was Sharon's pitiful substitute. She couldn't bring herself to love Nathan too much in fear of being hurt.

"It's not as complicated as you think, you know? You're two separate people. I fell in love with you not because you're Sharon's best friend, but because of you and your personality," he explained. "Let me ask you a question then. If you met me and her at the same time and in the same year, who would you have fallen in love with? Me or her?" Mandy asked curiously.
