Mandy lowered her head, avoiding his glare. "I'm not afraid."

"You shouldn't be. You see, Mandy, the target of my lawsuit has never been you, but Colin. He'll eventually be convicted of adultery." Nathan grinned wickedly. He reached out to touch her cheek.

Mandy wrenched away from him. "You–you're an asshole, Nathan Jin!"

"Mandy Zhou, my patience is thin. Don't try to push me to my limit. Besides, I've already warned you not to play any tricks when it comes to my business, haven't I?" He leaned over.

Mandy frowned. She knew that Nathan wasn't an easy man to mess with, but she also wasn't willing to give up so easily. Three years had passed, and the cards were still all in his favor. It was time to shuffle.

"Look, if you really want the land, then buy it. It's useless to threaten me on this matter," she snapped.

Nathan's face grew colder and colder by the second. "Don't try to play tricks on me, Mand. You won't win this way."

Mandy felt a sharp pain in her chest, and her eyes were moist. These memories she had kept close to her heart were the ones that molded her to who she was now.

"It's none of your business." Without another word, Mandy walked away.

Seeing her retreating figure, Nathan frowned. From what he could tell, she hated him more than he thought, and it was all because of her love for him. Back then, she loved him the most, and now, it seemed that she also hated him the most.

In the morning, the sunlight streamed through the branches as the birds chirped happily outside the window. Ethon was usually a good-natured man, but ever since his birthday party, he had fallen into a state of depression. He wasn't much of a drinker

their family property away, and her mother is a drug addict. What's more, both of them cheated on each other. Do you really think she'd be a proper wife for you?" Monica sneered.

"So what? Love has nothing to do with any of that! Do you think I'll be happy if I'm with Shyla?" he demanded.

"I can tell you right now that Shyla's ten times better than her! When you told me that you didn't want to go to military school, I compromised. What did you tell me back then? Oh, right! You told me that you haven't disobeyed me ever since you were a kid and that not going to military school would be the only time you'll disobey me. Does that still count? If you can't keep your promise, you might as well just push me off a building!"

"I can handle my own." Ethon sighed. His eyes had lost all its vitality.

"You'll have a bright future with Shyla, don't you know that?" Monica said calmly, trying to reason with him.

Ethon snickered mockingly. "Do you really think I'm that good-for-nothing? That I can't handle myself? Do you think I need a wife to feed me? It hurts that you don't even trust my capabilities."
