"Mand, how about we..." Nathan hesitated, returning to his usual silence.

A faint smile threaded onto her lips. "When I come back from the trip, how about we forget the past?" she suggested. "Let's live our lives together."

Looking at her bright smile, Nathan's heart warmed at the sight. After a month of surviving her indifference, it seemed that everything was finally coming to an end. He held onto her hands, eyes twinkling. "Really?"

"You still owe me a child," she teased.

He beamed at her, looking like a child who was told that Christmas came early. "I really am sorry."

"Don't apologize."

As they walked out of the hospital, the sun was shining above them. The bright blue skies were tinged with vibrant shades of red and orange.

As they were sitting in the car, Nathan played a specific piano piece. It was the 'Seven Princess Dream.' She closed her eyes, reminiscing about all the times she had played this to him.

"When did you record it?" she asked casually.

"I recorded it when you weren't looking." Nathan truly was on a high today. He just couldn't believe that the old Mandy was back.

Even when they returned to the villa, it was as if she had changed back to her former self, as if nothing had happened. She was enthusiastic and bright when she was with him, hanging onto his every word. In fact, she even fell asleep in his arms. Everything was falling together...until it didn't. At midnight, her eyes snapped open, her body shaking from the nightmare she just had. Mandy quickly turned on her bedside lamp, eyes glancing over to the man beside her.

This was the man she used to observe while he slept. He still looked incredibly beautiful and peaceful; however, things have changed. The scars on her heart could never be removed. It was just as Jennifer had told her, for Mandy's life may just be even more painful than hers–which was true.

The pain of losing

he heard the news.

His face darkened as he quickly grabbed his phone to call her.

"Mand," he said worriedly once the line was connected.

"Hello, this is Mandy Zhou's phone. You're speaking to the police in charge of this investigation. We found Miss Zhou's bag at the crash. Sir, are you her family? Could you come to the police station at your earliest convenience?"

Nathan didn't need to be told twice as he rushed out of his office, holding his phone tight to his chest.

On the way, he ordered Fred to take his men to the place of the accident to search for Mandy. He drove to the police station as the rain fell heavily onto his windshield.

The entirety of City A was covered with a thick blanket of mist.

Braking hard, he arrived in the police station.

The atmosphere in the station was dark and gloomy. Many people were rushing about–from policemen investigating the cause of the accident to the victims' families demanding an explanation. Nathan pushed through the crowd and went straight to the director's office.

The director of the public security bureau was already waiting for Nathan to arrive. He already had all the documents organized, expecting his quick arrival.

"Mr. Jin, here is Miss Zhou's bag," the director said gloomily.
