"Smoking is harmful to your lungs. Stop smoking," Nathan advised.

"Love is like poison, but why is everyone dying to consume poison?" Simon smiled and blew out his cigarette smoke, forming rings in the air.

"Perhaps they want to be loved," Nathan answered, narrowing his eyes.

"Is that what you want, Nathan, to be loved?"

Nathan fell silent. He didn't have an answer. He had never been in love with someone for a long time. Mandy was an exception—he had never loved anyone as much as he had loved her.

The cold breeze ruffled the leaves in the trees. The room became stuffy as the smell of smoke and alcohol filled the air. Nathan and Simon fell asleep on the sofa as they couldn't stay awake any longer.

The next morning, Nathan got up early—around six o'clock—as usual.

The smell of smoke and alcohol from his body made Nathan sick in the stomach. He frowned in disgust and glanced at Simon, who was knocked out next to him. Simon stirred on the sofa and began to wake up.

Simon winced as his head was throbbing in pain. He wanted to lie back and take a nap.

"Give me a set of your clothes." Nathan had a terrible hangover and was rubbing his temples.

Simon didn't want to move. "Pick out your choice of clothes from my closet," he said leisurely without moving.

Nathan stood up from the sofa, and his headache flamed up at the sudden movement. He calmed down and finally asked, "Do you still want to beat Bruce up?"

Simon's spirits lifted in an instant when he heard Bruce's name. He rushed up from the sofa, ran into his bedroom, and grabbed a set of fresh clothes for Nathan.

Simon and Nathan were of the same build, and his clothes perfectly fitted Nathan.

Nathan had a quick shower and dried his hair on a towel. He sniffed himself and immediately wanted to gag—he hated the smell of the shower gel. He walked up to Simon, who was still lying

hed immediately to catch up with them.

"What's going on?" Mandy asked one of the nurses.

"He was assaulted by someone at the riverside. The people there had called the ambulance," the nurse said as she opened the door of the operating room.

Mandy frowned but remained quiet. Her eyes did not leave Bruce's wounded body as she followed him to the operating room.

The surgeon did a comprehensive examination of Bruce's condition. Mandy was watching the whole process with her eyes fixed on him. Fortunately, Bruce did not suffer any major injuries. There were a couple of bruises on his body, and he had a mild concussion. He had to stay in the hospital for the next two days for the doctors to monitor his health.

The nurse had arranged the ward for Bruce, and Mandy walked in to see if he was fine. The surgeon had informed her that he was under sedatives and that he would only wake up in the afternoon.

Mandy was seething at the sight of Bruce—who was looking terrible—as his face was swollen, and there were cuts and scrapes everywhere. She knew that Nathan was responsible for Bruce's condition. She despised him at that moment.

Mandy took a couple of breaths to calm down. She couldn't confront him and ended up swallowing her anger.
