Chapter 134: Spirit Tree (a)

Elliot's feet moved fast enough to make it look like he was a gust of wind as he traveled through the endless rows of trees in search of clues. His right eye glowed brightly in a golden hue, and his head moved left and right occasionally.

He was using the power of his godly right eye on everything that came into his sight. A large amount of information was entering his mind, ingraining with his memories. As he was looking for clues, using this method was the easiest, fastest, and the best way to get it.

As he gained more and more information about this place, he realized that he was in a subspace, meaning that the area he was in didn't have any relation to the real world. The laws of this world were the complete opposite of the corridor and planet Xavier!

In this world, anything that has existed for a long time could develop a soul, including trees, plants, and so on.

To develop a soul, they must take in the spiritual energy present in nature. The trees in his surrounding could suck in the so-called spiritual energy naturally.

Moreover, once they develop a soul, not only does their intelligence increase, but they also gain a spirit mark, just like the ones in the center of his palm.

Each spirit mark carried a different type of power that a person can manifest after pouring spiritual energy into it.

While he could manifest wings but didn't have the spiritual energy to do so, the other could summon thunder, summon a hail of storm, and much more!

"Magic energy and spiritual energy are different, but at the same time, similar to each other, almost like two sides of the same coin. While both of them are energies that I believe anybody capable of controlling them could use to manifest superpowers, I can easily breathe in magic energy present in my surrounding. Yet, I can't even sense the spiritual energy around me."

What to do to sense the spiritual energy in my surroundings? How to absorb it from my surroundings? Just what do I need to do?

Elliot's brows furrowed as he thought hard about it. However, he didn't have enough knowledge about this subject. Thus, he couldn't come to an answer.

There's nothing he could do except for exploring this place for a clue about the second trial and finish it to obtain rewards.

Trying to speed up things and cover a large amount of distance at a time, he pressed his feet on the ground and leaped forward.

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

Right at that very moment, the golden branches of a tree that was far away from him burst outwards, extending and swirling around the nearby trees, shooting towards Elliot.

Although the attack was too sudden, he was keeping his eyes open wide at all times, and his hearing was also sharp enough to hear the barely audible sound of something cutting through the air, and that's why he managed to notice them coming.

While still in mid-air, a small amount of golden energy surged out of his right foot, condensing into the shape of a plank.

Just at that very moment, the golden branches had reached near him.

Thud!

Before they could even touch him, though, he stomped his left foot on the golden plank below his feet, hovering in mid-air, with so much strength that he sprang upwards as the branches missed him by few inches.

As he reached upwards, near the outcropping of the tree nearby, he looked down and saw the branches entangling around each other.

How silly of the spirit tree! Elliot thought with a smirk on his face.

He knew full-well that a tree that has absorbed enough spiritual energy to form a soul could be the only thing that could've sneaked him in this place.

He just didn't know that it would have attacked him the moment he jumped in mid-air.

He guessed that it might've sensed him from away and was waiting for a chance to attack him.

He gracefully landed on top of a tree, standing horizontally on its leaves, facing the ground. He wasn't falling, not because he had suddenly learned how to defy gravity as well as not because he had suddenly become lighter than a feather, but because of the golden threads that were attached to his feet and also connected to the branches and leaves of the tree, helping him balance his body.

"Where did it attack me from?"

He decided to locate its position.

As he was high above and had eyes sharp enough to see everything below clearly, he started to trace the branches that were entangled to each other back to their source.

At that very moment, however, the branches below him sprouted toward him at an incredible speed, and while going towards him, their ends changed shape into spearheads.

Each of them sharp and as red as blood.

Elliot retrieved his golden threads back into his body, and his body fell towards the spearheads.

In mid-air, his eyes twinkled brightly in the light of the sun, and a large amount of golden energy burst out of each of his hands, both stretching outwards for a meter before taking the shape of swords.

When he reached a meter away from the spearheads, he twisted his body, swirling around all of them.

The branches with sharp ends passed by him as he descended downwards in a roll while the swords in his hands moved in a circular motion along with his body, chopping down the branches into several pieces.

The moment his feet touched the ground, a cloud of red dust along with leaves of the same color, tinting the already red air.

A moment later, several chopped-up pieces of the spirit tree's branches fell from the sky and landed on the ground around Elliot with a dull thud.

Without saying as much as a single word, the spirit tree retracted its damaged branches as well as the ones hidden behind the trees that were waiting to ambush Elliot.
