340 Truths and Confessions 1

CHAPTER 340

"I have something to tell you," both of them said at once.

"You go first," they added again at the same time.

A peal of small soft laughter left Astrid's mouth and Jareth smiled at the sweetness of her laughter. He was beginning to get addicted to her and he knew it. There was no denying it anymore.

He had spent time while he went to catch them something to eat and also to get some drinking water to think about it carefully.

He wanted her and he knew his heart would continue to trouble him for as long as he lived if he did not say those words to her but at the same time, something terrible was about to happen and he needed to warn her about it.

"Go first, Astrid.: Jareth quickly spoke before she got the chance to and Astrid nodded at him.

She turned in her sitting position so she was now facing him with legs brought down and Jareth did the same.

He knew something was bothering her and whatever it was definitely was important.

"Okay. Here we go. Jareth," her soft and melodious voice seemed to be carried by the wind adding a certain rhythm to it as it brought them to Jareth's ears.

He was doomed enchanted already.

"I just want you to know… well, how do I put this? Umm, I do not want to hide anything from you, Jareth but I am sorry. Back then when we met and those entire first times being together, I lied to you."

Jareth's brows creased at her words but he kept mute and waited for her to continue.

"The truth is that I did not inherit my magic from my grandmother as I said back then. Jareth, I am a fairy and a mage. I am the hybrid child the whole realm is after and searching for."

She paused for a while to let him absorb the words that she just said while waiting to see his reaction for any anger or pain or something but she got nothing.

"I did not want to tell you this before as I did not know whom to trust but Jareth, after journeying with you… You are different, so much different from the rest of them. You do not fear me or my powers and I thought I owed you the truth, at least this last time."

At the mention of her last words, his brows furrowed deeply as he stared into her black orbs with confusion written all over his face.

"What do you mean by this last time, Astrid?"

Astrid swallowed hard before continuing. "The thing is that, from tomorrow… I would be journeying into Fortland, in search of my kingdom and mother."

"Astrid…"

"Wait." He stopped talking and listened to her.

"You have risked so much for me, Jareth. I cannot ask you to risk anymore. And even if you do want to, I want you to know what you are doing and not lie to you anymore. I am not who I said I was and journey with me as you have seen comes with so many dangers and risk."

"What are you sorry for?"

"Sorry to have endangered your life without your knowledge about it," she confessed.

After a few heartbeats, Jareth opened his mouth to speak. "What if I told you, I already knew?"

Okay, that was definitely not the reply she was expecting and it had taken her unaware. "What!"

Her eyes widened with shock as she stared deeply into his green orbs with her unbelieving black ones. "You knew?"

"Yes, I did. It was pretty obvious if you think properly, especially with your powers and all the chasing."

Astrid was left speechless for the first time that day. Here she was thinking he was oblivious to it all and now…

"But, why did you still help me even after knowing who I really am?" She asked him the question that was baffling her. If it were most people, they would have either run away or even turn her in yet he did not.

"You were different as well. Different from what the rumours had made you into. You are kind, good, caring, loving, powerful but so innocent and naïve." He intentionally said the last word to annoy her a bit.

He loved seeing her reaction when she defended herself or argued. It was so cute but now, Astrid did not give him the satisfaction as his words were still all but shocking to her.

"You were you and that was what made you special and not your powers. They just did not see that or understand it. I had the opportunity of being with you, so I know."

"Jareth." She felt touched by his words and felt like crying. Not wanting to look weak or like a cry baby, she held her emotions in. She was doing quite a good job of controlling them now.

When she had informed Nerissa about what White-Fire and she discussed, Nerissa trained her on how to put a lock and key on her emotions a bit during her training session.

A few minutes passed and none of them spoke. He allowed her to process what he had said while she thought about how to say the next thing she had not yet voiced out to him.

"Okay then," Astrid said, breaking the silence. "In that case, Jareth I do not want to keep secrets from you again. I am glad I told you this."

"Thank you."

"Yes, speaking of secrets, Jareth. I want to use this moment to let you know how I feel about you." He was shocked by her sudden boldness and even she herself was shocked she voiced that out so easily.

'Not as hard as I thought it would be,' she said to herself.

'Whoa! What is she…' Jareth too was amazed and stunned but outside, he kept his calm.

Such an unreadable handsome elf. Tsk!
