300 Two Can Play At This Game

Amelia was left speechless once again. It was true as Cyrena's said. There were many other assassins at her beck and call.

All she had to do was to just give he order and it would be done.

Still, they were not as good adls Amelia herself.

She remained the most skilled and best assassin Cyrena had ever had under her.

Besides, even though there were others, just which of them could match Cullen's skills.

At the end of the day, it still boiled down to jernto do the job except Cyrena intended on dispatching more than one assassin and that itself screamed of risk and exposure if anything went wrong.

"Okay. Then let someone else do it. I cannot do so."

"Amelia!"

"With all respect, your highness, forgive me. This order, I cannot carry out."

~Lorelei's Chambers~

Immediately Amelia left Cyrena's chambers, she went straight for Lorelie's chambers.

The news was not something she could contain or wait till the next day.

She needed to inform Lorelei so she could plan towards countering whatever it was they were scheming.

"Why have you come back so soon?" Asked Lorelei as soon as she noticed the extra presence in her working room.

"One cannot sneak up to you, cam they?"

"Since you know, then why bother trying?"

"I can only try and hope to be able to do so someday. I wish Cullen would be as sensitive as you are."

"What is wrong?" Judging from her words and tone of voice, Lorelei did not need a shaman to tell her something was wrong.

Even Amelia's being there at that moment alone, proved it.

"My lady, things have gone out of hand."

"What is it to be precise?" Lorelei questioned her once more.

"I find the words too heavy to say," Amelia replied her.

She tried to muster all the calm she could but the slight quaking of her voice gave her away.

She had still not gotten over the dread of the words she heard from Cyrena up till that moment.

It was at this moment Lorelei decided to turn on her direction.

"What does she want with Cullen?" Lorelei asked as soon as she locked eyes with Amelia.

Amelia gulped loudly, preparing herself to voice out the forbidden words.

"She wants me to kill Cullen."

"What!"

"She specifically ordered me to do so and I can consider my service to her ended."

"How dare she!"

"My lady."

"No, he was only just warned. Edwina asked me to tell him to stay off, so why now does her daughter wants him dead?"

"I do not know, but I sensed malice when she spoke. Something is not right my lady."

"Time to buckle up."

"Plans have changed, Amelia."

—————

Meanwhile Cari had been searching and up till that moment, he still had not seen any sign of Astrid, Jareth and Snow.

It was already mid day of the new day and nothing to show for it.

He had to resign himself to his fate when Princess Marin tried communicating with him.

He still wanted to check things out in hopes of finding them but there was no clue, no footprint, nothing of any sort to give him a good lead.

Once again, Astrid and Jareth had proved to be smarter than he was as she covered their prints.

Jareth was not planning on leaving any possible trace to lead anyone to where they were and he did a great job at that.

"Cari, what is your status?" Marin's melodious voice echoed through their transmission, bringing an eerie feeling with it.

"I am sorry, your highness."

"That was not the answer I was waiting for. I asked you a question, Cari." Princess Marin voiced out again as calmly as she could, trying her best not to lash at him.

"My apologies, I lost them. There is no sign of them anywhere."

"Cari," she called out.

"Yes, princess."

"How long was it before you noticed they were gone?"

"I noticed the previous day. At the early hours of yesterday, we all decided to take a rest after escaping from the human's outlaws village. I did not sleep and waited for some hours to be sure they were all sleeping and no funny thing would happen. Unfortunately, I still slept off."

"Really, now?"

"Yes, but she must have used her powers cause I ended up sleeping till mid afternoon and the terrain changed entirely. I did not hear any sound or notice anything."

"It is okay." Marin quickly chipped in. The more she listened to what happened, the more she felt her anger rise and she was trying her best to control it now.

"They are long gone. There is no need crying after spilled water. Return to Alacia at once. We would scout again and prepare better. No matter where she runs to, we would find her."

"Yes, princess."

And just like that, the light that came out from his left arm died down and their transmission ended.

He was mega surprised that she did not get mad at him.

He recall how she almost lost it the last time and made the village guards catch him.

It was a good thing he hid quite well back then to avoid it or else, he would have been on a good run for his life or worse, be back at that cursed village.

Slowly, he peeled his eyes away from his handand looked up at the sky.

'Astrid, run with elfy boy for now. When we meet again and I would not let you go.'

Letting out a deep breath, he shook his head and did a U turn and headed towards the nearest river back to Alacia.

His mission was off but his heart was opened.
