58 Crime Scene 2

Alyssa, Noah, and Jake booked three consecutive rooms in a nearby hotel under their false name and got inside it. after freshening up and taking a nap, Noah and Jake went to Alyssa's room to discuss related to the findings of the killer from the crime site.

Alyssa had already set up the place with monitoring systems and with the devices she would use later.

"I have already put the blood sample in the species detector machine, we will soon find out the DNAs that the blood has," Alyssa said.

"You never got to rest?" Noah asked curiously.

"I wanted to, but there was so much going on in my mind that I couldn't sleep," Alyssa replied honestly. "That's why I completed all the work that we were supposed to do together. Sorry if I hurt your feelings." Alyssa said feeling genuinely sorry.

"No, it's alright. I am not angry." Noah replied. He was not angry at Alyssa for completing the tasks in their absence. All he wanted for her to take rest. She was the one who was working harder than anyone in the team. And before this 'killer thing' she was working on her codes. He knew that deep down she is very tired. He didn't want her to become sick.

The species detector machine 'beeped' signaling the completion of the work. Alyssa hurriedly opened the laptop to see the data. It showed the DNA of two different person. The first DNA matched with DNA of the victim whose throat was slit open. But the second DNA doesn't have any identification with it.

"It's the killer's DNA." Jake chimed in. he was excited to find the killer and complete the task. He knew finding him was difficult and who knows how long it would have taken for him to catch him alone. He was tankful of Alyssa and Noah. He looked at Alyssa with a newly found respect in his eyes. His heart would always have a slight itching feeling whenever he thinks about her.

"Maybe. Let's see the detailed structure of the DNA." Alyssa said clicking to various tabs flashed on the screen. All of them held their breath for the result to come out. They would soon find out who the killer is, a vampire or a werewolf.

The computer 'binged' and a detailed analysis of the DNA structure came in front of them.

"Whose DNA is this. Who is the killer?" Jake asked impatiently.

Alyssa looked down at the last column of the report where the species name is provided. But to her shock, the column was blank. Alyssa's face went pale. The dots that were there since the beginning of the case started connecting. They were glaring red flags that Alyssa had chose to ignore al along because what they were pointing at were absurd in her eyes. but now when all the evidence was in front of her she cannot let go of everything just because she thought they were shocking and ridiculous.

"Why are you quite? Who is the killer? A vampire or a werewolf?" Jake screamed shaking Alyssa.

"So, you mean there is a new species out there who are killing and drinking everybody's blood," Jake questioned in anger.

"Just give me some more time," Alyssa said and took out a glass bottle from her bag.

"What is this?" Noah and Jake asked simultaneously.

"Months ago, I was attacked by something. I want to compare both the DNAs to see whether my hypothesis is right or wrong." Alyssa said with all seriousness.

"Who attacked you?" Noah asked curiously. Because she never heard of anyone attacking her after they became friends.

"The creatures that attacked me the day I met you," Alyssa said looking into Noah's eyes.

"At Fate Alley?" Noah questioned

"Yes. "Alyssa said.

"The creatures that attacked you…." Noah spoke trying to remember what happened on that day. Then his eyes widened in horror upon remembrance. Just like Alyssa, he paled too.

"The diseased." He whispered under his breath.

"How is this possible?" He said denying the possibilities.

He couldn't believe that the disease still exists. He thought that they were long gone. They hadn't encountered any of them since that they even when they had taken a night stroll in Fate Alley.

"I thought that too and I was denying all possibilities of it even though everything was in front of my eyes," Alyssa said lamenting at her stupidity.

"What is going on here? Who are you all talking about?" Jake asked curiously. He was confused and felt like an outsider. He couldn't understand anything they were saying but he has a gut feeling that says, Alyssa knows something about the killer.

"I will explain everything later to you. Just let me check these two DNA samples." Alyssa said keeping the two samples side by side and comparing them.

Both the samples seemed to be similarly distorted by the presence of a new DNA which was identical to both of them.

Alyssa pointed at the screen and explained it to Jake, "You see these two DNAs have a common origin, that is both of them are from the same species. But you see this green line," she said pointing at the newly inserted DNA. "This thing had distorted the whole DNA and made it into something new. Because of this DNA, the species evolved or you can say, changed into something new."

"So, they became a new species?" Jake asked curiously

"Yes. That's why it was not detected earlier." Alyssa answered.

"What were they before the new DNA entered?" Jake questioned Alyssa.

"Werewolves," Noah replied honestly.

"So, this is not a vampire attack?" Jake asked to confirm everything.

"No," Alyssa replied.

"It's good then. Let's submit this report to the investigating department and clear the name of the Westeros." He said excitedly.

Alyssa remained silent to this proposal. She knew this case is not as easy as it seems.

Seeing Alyssa being silent and not happy even after they had identified the killer Noah asked Alyssa, "What is it?"

Alyssa knew what Noah was talking about. She sighed and said, "This case is not as simple as it seems. This case is like a swamp, the more you will dive into it, the more you will get caught."

"What more do you know?" Noah asked Alyssa after understanding the meaning behind her words. This was not some 'Diseased' on loose. This case has a political agenda to it.

"I will tell you tomorrow after visiting the crime scene one more time," Alyssa said distancing them from the political mess. The less they know the better it would be. Plus, she doesn't have any proof to justify her hypothesis.

The next day, once again they visited the crime scene early in the morning. They were scouring the area when they heard the sound of a vehicle engine. The car came to an abrupt halt just in front of the crime scene. Alyssa was a little bit more inside the line of the trees so she was not visible at a glance. Noah was a bit farther from Alyssa, much deeper in the trees. Only Jake was on the pavement where the bodies were found. He was examining the area where the outlines of the body was made.

Everybody's heart froze. Alyssa signaled Noah to remain where he was and she hid behind a tree.

Alyssa peeped at the owner of the vehicle from the tree line.

A man of around twenty years of age alighted from the car and approached Jake who was closest to him. Alyssa's heart leaped in her throat after seeing the man.

The man approached Jake and said, "I am here to inspect the crime scene, may I know who are you and why you are present here?"

Jake face paled. He shuttered a bit while saying, "I am Dr. Jake from Royal Investigation Bureau, and I am here to examine the area.

The man raised his brows at his introduction and said, "Jake you say, but I don't think there is any Jake in the Bureau. And as far as I know, It wasn't some Jake who was assigned to come here. It was Oliver Grim."

Jake became paler after being found out. He gulped nervously and removed her spectacles to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

"I have seen you somewhere." The man muttered under her breath, looking closely at the vampire in front of him.

Alyssa knew that going there will expose herself but she trusted her makeup skill. Without making any sound, she approached the duo and said, "We are very sorry your majesty for trespassing. Actually we are reporters from 'Fast News' news channel. We were dressed like this to disguise ourselves. Actually we are here to find something that will make a breakthrough in this investigation." Alyssa rambled on. The more she rambled to hide the truth, the more the man got suspicious of them.
