Chapter 89 Eight Great Families

As Xuan emerged from his knowledge sea and opened his eyes, he was faced by the exact scene he'd been expecting. Across from him, the elder Yang Huo lay with his eyes rolled up into his head, foaming white out of his mouth. He looked like he just had the living soul sucked out of him, and had died a horrible death.

Naturally, Xuan immediately became the center of attention.

"You bastard… what did you do to him?!" the Peng family young master demanded, ferocious and furious.

On the contrary, Xuan smiled calmly. "What do you mean? I didn't do anything. When he entered my knowledge sea, his Soul Defense just wasn't high enough to protect him from my natural defense measures, thus resulting in backlash. Slightly… severe backlash."

"Nonsense. My elder's Soul power is one of the strongest amongst Asphodel—how could he have been unable to bear your meager knowledge sea's pressure?" Yang Tze narrowed his eyes. "In fact, you should not even be able to send your own consciousness into your knowledge sea yet—it would be more accurate to call it your mental space, given your knowledge sea should not be fully developed with that meager cultivation."

"There are many things you do not know, foolish human," Fu Mei spoke up, slowly drawing out her scythe. "For instance… the fact that you'll die exactly five minutes from now."

"Ha! Big words, coming from a mere Origin Transformation stage," the Peng Family young master snorted. "Do you see how drastically outnumbered you are? Hmph, we should've just gotten rid of you from the very beginning… you see now, Brother Yang? If you had listened to me from the very beginning, your family's elder wouldn't have died."

"… You're right, Brother Peng," Yang Tze muttered through grit teeth, eyes narrowed. "I'd initially thought I would spare them out of consideration for sister Xiruo, but… it would seem that was a mistake. I never thought she would fail to see the danger these two pose—however, it is still not too late for redemption. Sister Xiruo, join us—help us kill those two. Blood for blood."

Xuan and Fu Mei turned to Xiruo briefly as well, awaiting her reaction. If she sided with the Eight Great Families here, she would be slaughtered along with them. But if she stuck by Xuan's side, then she would become a valuable asset in the future. Everything came down to her decision.

After looking back and forth between Xuan and Yang Tze, Zi Xiruo made her choice—she did not move. It was clear which side she chose.

"… I see." Yang Tze, recognizing her decision, slowly lifted his arm. "I hope you do not regret this decision you've made, sister Xi Ruo."

"Fufu, I'd expected you to betray us," Fu Mei said with a giggle. "Perhaps you're not so dumb after all, hm~?"

In response, Zi Xiruo only gave a sigh. "This is quite the troublesome situation I've dragged myself into, so… for both my sake and yours, win, okay?"

Xuan smiled. "That is only natural."

Both he and Fu Mei drew their weapons, one wielding a sword and the other a scythe. Across from them, Yang Tze gave his decree, and the Eight Great Families' servants gathered there all prepared themselves.

"Kill them."

Immediately, the cultivators lunged towards the pair with the intent to kill. Naturally, Xuan wasn't returned the favor.

Without even batting an eye, he activated Celerity, the Rabbit Zodiac Technique, and swerved to the side to dodge an incoming sword slash before swiftly cutting down the attacker. Beside him, Fu Mei swung her scythe, sending out a reaping wave of demonic Qi that caused anyone it touched to scream in pain as they were boiled alive.

"Dammit, you're all useless!" the Peng family young master roared. "It's just a mere Origin Transformation stage slut and a Flowing Qi stage brat—what are we paying all of you for?!"

"Don't worry, fat boy," Fu Mei replied with a giggle as she unleashed another wave of corrupting energy, bringing down another five cultivators in a single hit. "After these pawns are dealt with, you'll be next~"

"Who're you calling fat?!"

"Wait, Peng Gong—"

But he was not listening. Before any of the other Eight Great Family representatives could step in, the Peng family young master jumped into the fray, pressing his hands together and channeling his energy.

"Slut, I'll make you beg for mercy in between my legs tonight!"

A golden aura radiated from Peng Gong's body, and the projection of a buddha appeared in the air above him. But Fu Mei, who just finished clearing up all the small fry around her, wasn't fazed in the least. Instead, she smiled as if this was an entertaining fight, and tilted her head slightly.

"Sorry, but… you won't be able to satisfy me."

A blaze of corrosive black energy shot up all around her, and she spun, swinging her scythe as she did so. A massive curve of energy flew out of her blade, and the figure of the enormous golden buddha was severed in half—cleanly and without mercy.

"Ngh!"

Peng Gong, spurting blood from his mouth, was knocked backwards a few steps from the impact. The onlooking spectators all dropped their jaws at this sight, Zi Xiruo included.

"Impossible… that was the Peng family's secret Immovable Buddha Technique! How did she break it in one attack?!"

"A move praised for its impenetrable defense… was broken that easily?" Yang Tze breathed. "Such power… no, Peng Gong does not stand a chance…"

Gritting his teeth, the Yang family young master narrowed his gaze and leaped into the battle himself. If Peng Gong died here, trouble would befall the Yang family—the two shared an alliance, after all. Yang Tze was tasked with protecting this idiot, however much he did not want to.

But just as he moved to join the fight, a crescent of devastatingly powerful blood-red sword Qi came flying out of nowhere, cutting off his path and destroying the other end of the chamber with a large scar. Yang Tze, feeling a chill shoot up his back, immediately froze and turned to the perpetrator.

"…"

There, Xuan stood with his sword drawn, a calm smile on his face that never wavered.

"Your opponent… is me."
