Chapter 798 The Mysterious Abyss

-----

There was a gigantic skull, it didn't looked like that of an enormous beast either, but it seemed humanoid... In fact, it looked very much human-like, but with larger and sharper lower teeth, like those of Orcs.

"What is this thing? A Skull? Is this what you were looking for? Maybe a Giant thing died here long ago?" Eleanora asked.

"It is not... dead yet." Saphira said. "I-I mean... It feels like the soul is still lingering- And there! And there too!"

The little Specter girl pointed at many areas surrounding us, as we found out there was an enormous graveyard of countless skeletons, of enormous sizes. n/-OveLb1n

"S-So many in here? In the walls, the ceiling too..." Eleanora said. "And there are bright crystals growing over some of them... Just what is this place?"

"Looks like we found a gold mine..." I smiled. "These bones emanate a very strong Essence, they could become excellent materials, and these crystals..." I grabbed one. "They're Phantasmal Soul Crystals, incredibly rare too... Amazing, well done for finding these, Saphira."

"Y-Yeah but..." Saphira said. "There's more far away, this entire place feels weird... Like there was once a big war, a battle. And many died, and over time, their bodies were buried, until they ended in the depths... I think the Souls want to go to the surface again."

"What are these souls? Do you know their names or what they were?" I wondered.

"They... can't talk much..." Saphira sighed. "But they're calling this place... "The Graveyard of Gods"..."

"The Graveyard... of Gods?" Eleanora wondered, caressing the huge bone in front of us.

Gods? Are these beings calling themselves Gods? But... could this bring us to understand better the origins of this mysterious world?

Aside from the most surface area knowledge, I know very little about its true origins, or where did it came from, and it seems that not even the Holy Spirits are sure either, as they were formed from the World itself after many eons.

So who could these Gods truly be? It has been so long that appraising their bones only gives me the most basic of information.

"Interesting..." I wondered. "This place is huge as well, almost like a second world beneath the surface. If I expand my senses, I can sense a lot of life, millions of life forces spread around everywhere... There must be whole ecosystems down here, and more."

"Oh, really? Right there you said?" Saphira suddenly started talking alone. "Okay! Daddy, mama, there! Over there, someone said there's something they want to give to you."

"To me?" I asked. "Why?"

I walked where Saphira led us, as we found a gigantic monolith, an enormous pillar crafted by utterly gigantic hands, out of pure black stone. Imbued into it there were hundreds of strange-looking runes, of a language I could not decipher.

"This is... some sort of Monolith? What is it written here?" Eleanora wondered.

"Over here!" Saphira said. "They said that if you touch this, you'll get something."

"Hmm, Saphira, are you sure we should trust these souls?" I asked. "They're so faint I can't even see them myself..."

"They're trustworthy warriors!" Saphira didn't gave up.

"...Fine, but if my soul gets sucked out or something, you'll get grounded for a month, girl." I said, touching the Monolith rather recklessly.

Suddenly, I felt my Mana flowing into the Monolith slowly. The runes began glowing bright blue, spiritual energy emerged from my body too, my Spirit Orb was gathering its powers and imbuing them into the monument.

But above all, I also felt something deeper within my soul being affected, my very Talent, a power everyone is born with, which they fully awaken at a certain age, was... being somehow activated too?

Is this Monolith some sort of Talent Awakening Artifact?

Its runes started dancing around, and the power that it absorbed from me was quickly sent back towards my soul.

My Spirit Orb- no, my Soul itself was healed, the cracks that were there due to Satan's attacks were instantly healed, something that might have taken months to heal naturally, and above all...

My Talent... was changing?

The Grimoire appeared at my side, beginning to glow, its pages flickering.

Ding!

[You have touched a [Talent Bestowal Divine Monolith]!]

[You have acquired the chance to Evolve your Talent!]

[By combining an already pre-existing Talent within the Talent Choices, you can Evolve your current Talent.]

I can combine two Talents into one. What sort of... artifact is this? Did these Giants died protecting it? But why... and how could have nobody found this ever before?

While it is said that the Spirit Orb was born from the power of the Holy Spirits and the Summoner hero Allen, there are no explanations regarding Talents and their origins.

Could these people that died long ago, have something to do regarding what Talents truly are?

A power that didn't exist in my previous life at all, yet it exists in this Plane...

However, that wasn't all, as more information was being detected.

[Talent Evolution can only be done once per Rank Up. And only after Four Stars have been achieved.]

[To further Rank Up above Five Stars, completing one of the [Ancient Divine Trial Dungeons] is required.]

[Your Chance for Talent Evolution can be used at any time, even without touching the [Talent Bestowal Divine Monolith]!]

"It is to evolve my talent..." I said. "It seems to be related with the power of these... Gods. Or whatever they were. Could they be a connection to the origin of Talents, I wonder?"

"They said that this Monolith helped them grow stronger..." Said Saphira. "Huh? Looks like they only know that they have bad memory..."

"Hmm, let's go to the surface for now, I somehow feel nervous around here..." Eleanora said. "As if we shouldn't be here, strangely enough."

"I do feel the same sort of feeling..." I nodded. "We'll come back again once we investigate things further. Or when we have some free time. Let's go."

Once I gathered some useful materials and placed them inside my Inventory, we moved to the surface, where we greeted everyone else, most of them moved to tears, having thought I had died.

They sure are melodramatic...
