CH 55

After a busy day, the members of the clan finally returned to the camp. They had gone hunting and gathering and it was said that they had another great harvest today. Mocha vividly described the fragrant and sweet honey, making everyone drool with hunger. Fortunately, Qin Fei had already prepared a large amount of honey water, waiting for everyone to come back to quench their thirst and satisfy their hunger.

Mo Cha patted Bante’s shoulder and spoke with a hint of pride, “Brother, you regretted not staying today, didn’t you?”

Bante snorted and gave Mocha a big eye-roll, then took Carloti to get the honey water to drink.

Since Carloti regained his vision, his body has gradually become stronger thanks to Qin Fei’s various concoctions. He naturally didn’t want to stay in the tribe and eat free meals. Although Sa Lei temporarily only wanted Carloti to do simple tasks, he insisted on joining the hunting team. Unable to resist his persistence, Sa Lei had to agree, and Bante was naturally very happy that Carloti was back in the hunting team. However, he couldn’t be careless and had to protect his little brother until he fully recovered his abilities. 

Today is Carloti’s second day in the hunting team. The males are taking good care of him since he hasn’t fully recovered his fighting abilities yet, only letting him participate in simple peripheral tasks. However, Bante still doesn’t want to leave Carloti alone in the hunting team. So when he was chosen to participate in the extermination of the beehive, he exchanged with Mocha because Carloti’s enthusiasm for hunting far exceeds that of dealing with the beehive.

Qin Fei looked at everyone enjoying their honey water with satisfaction in his heart. He decided to show off his skills once again today and make everyone eat deliciously.

He prepared some marinated meat and had someone put it on the fire to roast. When it was about 80% cooked, he poured honey on top. He also picked out a pile of bee larvae, frying some of them and skewering the rest to grill.

The roasted meat was golden and crispy, and some impatient children couldn’t wait to eat it even though it wasn’t fully cooked yet. The adults carefully turned and grilled it, afraid of ruining this rare delicacy.

The bee larvae cooked quickly and were very tempting whether grilled or fried. However, the tribe members had never eaten this type of food before and looked at Qin Fei expectantly.

Qin Fei paused his work and cut a crispy golden fried bee larvae in half. The meat inside was delicate and tender, while the outside was crispy, fragrant, and sweet. He quickly finished half of the bee larvae and smacked his lips. Seeing how delicious Qin Fei found the bee larvae, everyone else grabbed some and ate them eagerly.

Although the bee larvae didn’t look very appetising, they tasted incredibly delicious. Especially for the elderly and young children with poor teeth, they enjoyed the bee larvae very much. As for the honey-glazed grilled meat, the males had already divided it up among the tribe, and everyone was eating with oil dripping from their mouths. With the new meat replacing the old ones, the females who had learned how to glaze the meat with honey were eager to show off their skills.

It was the first time many people had fried bee larvae, and they were struggling to control the oil temperature and cooking time. So Qin Fei was very busy today, not only cooking food for everyone, but also instructing several females who were struggling and avoiding oil splashes that could injure someone.

Sa Lei carefully placed the grilled meat and cooked bee larvae, cut into small pieces, into a large bowl. When Qin Fei was busy, Sa Lei would occasionally grab a piece and stuff it into his mouth, making Bante jealous and considering finding a mate for himself.

Carloti patted Bante’s shoulder and said with a smile, “Why don’t you exchange food for a mate during this month’s trading? I have already recovered well now and have no problem living on my own.”

Bante smiled with relief and said, “It would be nice to have more females in the household, at least there would be a female who can cook when the tribe doesn’t hold a big dinner gathering. Otherwise, we would have a hard time swallowing our own cooking, having grown used to the tribe’s food. You can move out if you want, but only after you have found your own female.”

Carloti shrugged and did not object to Bante’s words.

Several injured males who were hurt when the flying beasts attacked have been gradually nursed back to health. Today, two of them participated in the mission to eradicate the bamboo wasps, but most of them were only able to do simple tasks. The most severely injured, Tolokia, was only able to walk out of the bamboo building with the help of his fellow tribesmen today.

Qin Fei usually takes care of the diet of these wounded warriors and has prepared some food that is easy to digest and absorb for them. Originally, Tolokia was sitting in the bamboo building eating, but he heard the noise outside and, since he was able to get up and walk today, he couldn’t help but be impatient and was helped to sit by the fire.

Bante and Mocha and others saw Tolokia come out and happily gathered around him. Qin Fei saw Tolokia sitting by the fire and quickly asked someone to bring a cushion to let him half lie on the soft grass and chat with everyone on the cushion.

Mocha kept talking about his female companion Bulazha, and Qin Fei said that Bulazha is likely to give birth soon, making him even more excited. Just as they were talking, they heard a scream from the bamboo building not far away. Then, a female who was close to Bulazha ran towards Mocha’s direction.

She ran excitedly while shouting, “Bulazha is going to give birth, Bulazha is going to give birth!”

The birth of a baby is a great joy for the tribe, and the tribespeople all congratulated Mocha, who grinned foolishly. Ruma gave him a hard slap on the back of his head to wake him up. Then he quickly led Ruma and two older females from the tribe to his own bamboo building.

Under Qin Fei’s guidance, Ruma’s shamanic medical skills improved greatly, and several older females had also learned a lot from Qin Fei. They were busy heating water and setting up animal skins to block the wind and cold, preparing for the safe birth of Bulazha’s child.

Sa Lei fed Qin Fei a piece of fragrant bee larvae again, ignoring the many pairs of eyes watching them and his movements were graceful,  unaffected by any external interference.

Qin Fei’s face was not so thick-skinned, and after swallowing what was in his mouth, he said helplessly, “I’m not busy now, I can eat by myself.”

Sa Lei gave up and placed the bowl in Qin Fei’s hand. He leaned over to Qin Fei and whispered in his ear, “Do you still remember your promise to give me a baby last time?”

Qin Fei was startled by this and the barbecue he had just put into his mouth fell back into the bowl. He turned his head and glared at Sa Lei angrily, saying, “I’m not a female, how could I possibly have a baby?”

Sa Lei’s hands wandered up Qin Fei’s bare waist, and he said, “You said that as long as we work hard, there’s a chance. We just need to keep trying.”

Qin Fei was completely furious and said, “Chance my ass! You’re always…”

Before he could finish, Sa Lei covered his mouth. The male members nearby started to howl and make noise, burying Qin Fei’s weak protests in the noise. Sa Lei decided to take action and lifted Qin Fei who was still struggling, waved to the others, and left to become a better person in his own way.
