Chapter 104: Great Hero

On that day, the sky was clear and sunny, in mid-May, and the weather suddenly became hot.

Wearing a suit jacket was too hot, but not wearing one was too cold, and Zhou Mushi regretted not listening to Jin Yang’s advice and picking a vest to keep in the office.

The workload these past few days has been busy, forming a stark contrast to the days when he hardly had to go to work.

During work, he couldn’t afford to be distracted for a moment. He had to rush and work diligently all day to have a chance to finish all his work before leaving.

He’s not the lonely person he used to be. Going back home to the warm embrace of his ‘wife’ is much more comfortable than facing a bunch of data in a cold office.

At three thirty in the afternoon, Zhou Mushi yawned and drank a cup of coffee, feeling slightly headache.

It wasn’t because of work, just a physical headache, perhaps he caught a cold. Even drinking a strong cup of coffee had no effect. The headache mixed with heavy drowsiness, making him constantly yawn, but he had to focus on his work. He didn’t have time to take a nap.

During lunch, he clearly squeezed out some time to take a nap, but now he’s so sleepy he doesn’t know what’s going on.

Zhou Mushi glanced at the calendar on his computer. It was only Thursday today. If it were Friday, he could hold on and have two days of rest after work.

Another yawn came out, and one or two tears were forced out of the corners of his eyes.

He rubbed his eyes and looked at the documents on hand, carefully analyzing the data.

What really woke Zhou Mushi up to this terrible situation was a phone call from Zhou Qingwen.

“Hello, Dad,” Zhou Mushi answered absentmindedly, typing away on the keyboard.

A young female voice came from the other end of the phone, asking, “Hello, may I ask if you are Mr. Zhou Qingwen’s son?”

Zhou Mushi felt his already painful head getting even worse. Who knows what trouble his troublesome father had caused this time? Did he impregnate someone again, or did he get caught soliciting prostitutes?

“Yes, I am his son. May I know who’s calling?” he asked, furrowing his brow at the pile of data charts on his computer screen.

“Hello, this is the Municipal Hospital. I’m a nurse here. My name is Yang. Your father was just brought to our hospital, and his condition is critical. Please come quickly,” the nurse said.

Zhou Mushi rubbed his forehead in disbelief, held still for a few seconds, and grabbed his coat hanging on the chair. “I’ll be there right away”.

As he made his way, cold sweat kept pouring out of him. The Zhou family had always been kind to others in the business world, and they rarely resorted to hiring killers to deal with competitors.

So why did his father end up in the hospital? A car accident? Cancer? Or did something happen between him and one of his girlfriend?

As a son, Zhou Mushi should think positively, but his father was already in the hospital, and he couldn’t even call to notify him. It was the hospital nurse who called him, and that showed how critical the situation was.

Zhou Mushi was not someone who liked to deceive himself. He quickly arrived at the hospital lobby, inquired about his father’s condition, and rushed to the ward.

Unfortunately, the elevator in the hospital had just stopped working due to a malfunction, and the maintenance workers were trying to fix it. Who knew when it would be repaired.

Unable to find any way out, Zhou Mushi had to climb the stairs.

After panting his way to the 16th floor, he had never suffered so much in his life.

As soon as he arrived, he saw that this wasn’t a hospital room at all, but an operating room.

The light above clearly blinked two bright red words: “In surgery”.

The combination of excessive exhaustion and anxiety caused Zhou Mushi to slump down on a public chair, completely drained of energy.

He struggled to catch his breath and began to daydream, his mind conjuring up scenes from a movie. He pulled out his phone and shakily dialed Zhou Muxian’s number, but there was no answer on the other end.

Now that he thought about it, the nurse must have notified Zhou Muxian as well, and he could be on a plane heading here at this very moment.

Zhou Mushi also considered calling Jin Yang, but even though he had opened Jin Yang’s contact list, he couldn’t bring himself to press the green dial button.

Otherwise, wait a little longer, wait a little longer…

Time passed by second by second, and Zhou Mushi’s headache almost made him lose track of how much time had passed. It felt like it passed quickly, yet also felt very slow.

With a “click”, the red light was turned off and when the door to the operating room was pushed open, Zhou Mushi’s sourness rose in his chest as he looked at the figure lying on the bed.

But before Zhou Mushi could run up, several figures dressed in deep blue uniforms suddenly passed him, surrounding the bed.

There were public security officers and criminal investigators, and the group crowded around the person lying on the bed.

Zhou Mushi was instantly stunned, why was there such a big commotion? Did his father commit murder or engage in illegal drug trafficking?

The leader, an older man, stood next to Zhou Qingwen and said, “Lao Zhou, we have caught the person. You are the hero of this operation, and your undercover mission was very successful.”

Zhou Mushi stood on the side, staring at the scene in disbelief, and dragged his heavy legs to the bedside.

The person on the bed was wearing an oxygen mask and couldn’t speak. He blinked twice to show that he understood.

“The patient needs rest now. Let’s take him to the ward first”, said the doctors and nurses, separating the police and Zhou Mushi. Before Zhou Qingwen was pushed into the ward, Zhou Mushi clearly felt the gaze of his father, who looked weak but had a proud and wanting-to-beat-him look in his eyes.

The patient was pushed into the room and the corridor suddenly fell silent. Zhou Mushi unconsciously looked at a group of police officers, one of whom was a beautiful policewoman who looked familiar. Wasn’t she his father’s girlfriend who came to the hospital to pick up his father when they did the DNA test, wearing a dress and delicate makeup?

The leader glanced at Zhou Mushi and calmly said, “You are Mr. Zhou’s son? Indeed, a chip off the old block, and a talented young man like Mr. Zhou.”

Zhou Mushi: “…”

“The thing is, this time, the police and your father, Zhou Qingwen, worked together to crack down on human trafficking and rescue women and children who were being bought and sold. Your father actively cooperated with the police, which led to the capture of all these evil forces.”

Zhou Mushi felt dizzy. To be honest, compared to the heroes who risk their lives to serve the people, he still believed that his father was a middle-aged flirtatious rogue.

The policewoman who was his father’s girlfriend nodded at him and said, “Your father is a hero.”
