“So It’s Me You’re More Interested in”

Everything always remains calm before the waves lash.

Black Glove’s continued reclusion from matters on account of sickness is also cooling the core of the chaos somewhat, allowing respite for others to check out some other people——Like Jiang Yiyi and Jian Si.

The sudden mutation of Bunny into some mysterious creature is certainly an interesting matter.

The news that Jian Si was hospitalised in the clinic spreads quickly, drawing different responses from the factions.

“Lion,” Xin Yongyuan stops looking at Big Guy, who is standing, bowing towards them, “you misjudged.”

Lion ruffles his hair. His brows are at a slight angle; due to his age and appearance, however, that look he has, rather than intimidating and scary, makes him look more of a youthfully rebellious bad boy instead.

Not that Big Guy is any less polite when deferring to him.

Lion thinks for a few seconds and concludes, “I did not.”

Xin Yongyuan lifts a brow, “you mean, Bunny suddenly wised up after talking to Doctor?”

Lion asks Big Guy, “what do you think?”

The big, burly man shudders, and quickly says, “Bunny…” he pauses, as what Jian Si said suddenly entered his mind once more, and he goes back on his word as an instinctual reaction, “Jian Si… feels odd.”

Big Guy is checking Lion’s reaction. He does not tell him to stop, so he quickly explains, “I’ve almost beaten him to death, but he wasn’t scared at all.” After a pause, he gulps, his tone slightly less stable, “he was even… chuckling.”

Xin Yongyuan asks, “he wasn’t scared of dying?”

“I don’t think…” Big Guy does not think that description does it justice. He does his best to put the feeling into words, “if you ask me, I’d say, he’s gone… insane.”

Insane?

Lion looks Big Guy up and down, curious as to the basis for this assertion.

Big Guy isn’t quite educated enough to give sophisticated answers, and simply says, “it felt like, he didn’t care if I beat him to death, and because I didn’t, so he laughed.”

“Because he know he’s won.” Xin Yongyuan whispers.

Lion scratches his head. He is not looking as cheerful anymore, “go apply to change cells.”

Big Guy doesn’t even notice himself subconsciously sighing in relief. He nods, and when seeing Lion dismissing him, he hesitates, but still decides to add, “boss, I think…”

Lion is looking at him.

Big Guy grits his teeth, and leaves himself no regrets by speaking hastily, “we should not ever try to provoke the Doctor.”

Lion raises his brow again.

The explanation, now that the first sentence is out, flows out much more naturally; Big Guy lowers his volume, speaking quickly, “you know how Jian Si was. He was just a useless guy whose face was all that he had going for him.”

There may be wrong given names, but no wrong nicknames.

Bunny is the Bunny. Soft, weak, easily strangled in one hand.

“I don’t know what that Doctor is…” Big Guy checks Lion’s face once more, then continues, “but if he can turn Bunny into… this, he must be some kind of monster.”

Lion’s face is unchanging, his silence like a rock.

Big Guy cannot be certain he wasn’t overstepping anything. He can only lean further in his bow and await Lion’s decision.

It’s quiet for minutes.

Xin Yongyuan breaks the silence, and merely says, “you are excused. Do not make contact with Jian Si these days if you can help it.”

Big Guy, relieved, turns to leave.

“Lion.” Xin Yongyuan calls out, “what’s wrong?”

“I’m wondering, how he did this.” Lion knits his brows; he’s genuinely curious, “yesterday was when he first met Jian Si. They have talked for three hours at most. How did he transform Jian Si?”

“Say, do you think he might not have had anything to do with Jian Si’s changes?”

“Best if he had nothing to do with it, but even if he had, nothing will change.” Xin Yongyuan pats Lion on the shoulder. The muscles underneath are quite tense, “haven’t you made your call already? You’ll stay away from him.”

Lion smacks his lips, “I’ve changed my mind. I want to test him out.”

Xin Yongyuan strengthens his grip, “don’t forget, you were the one who chose to back off when you first met.”

“And I regret that.” Lion’s tense muscles are not from fear, but from a spontaneous desire for battle, “I should have just fought him first.”

Xin Yongyuan is in no hurry, though. He knows Lion better than anyone else; he’s just a beast driven by instincts. His sharp sense for danger means he will always make the right choice when pressed.

In other words, while Lion looks like he is itching for nothing more than a good fight right now, when he returns in front of Jiang Yiyi and senses the threat once more, he will immediately make the best choice——The same one he made when he saw him.
