Fourth Floor (7)

“Your Life Is Mine”

Jiang Yiyi is rather bored looking around the courtyard.

The fourth floor is lively, but different from the chaotic liveliness of the second floor, the fourth floor is orderly and divided. Any disturbance to this order will be met with resistance for sure.

Jiang Yiyi is spinning his blade. He has lost interest in helping the wounded now——Mostly because, there are quite a lot of troublesome eyes on him right now.

Never mind the three doofuses in the crowd, or Ye Wang, he can feel a majority of all people present having their attention on him.

“Eh? Jiang Yiyi?” There is a sudden question.

Jiang Yiyi’s thoughts pause to look over where the question came from——An overly pristine little beauty, especially when contrasting against the general appearance of others here.

“Why are you here?” The little beauty has widened his eyes in shock.

…?

A question mark has not only emerged in Jiang Yiyi’s mind, but also in the minds of most present.

Jiang Yiyi, meanwhile, takes time to note the nickname – Bunny – quite the unique nickname here.

Furrowing his brows slightly, he then takes a close look at the face so pretty it does not even look like he’s on the same plane of existence as the fourth floor——If all the people Jiang Yiyi has met are ranked from top to bottom by beauty alone, he would be the strongest person Jiang Yiyi has met thus far.

Naturally, that is but a fleeting fantasy.

Assuming… this is not a game, of course.

Jiang Yiyi asks cautiously, “and you are?”

“It’s me…” He seems to want to say something, but changes his mind at the last second, “I showed you where to get a license, remember?”

Hm?

Jiang Yiyi looks through the character’s memories, and does find this person from some abandoned corner of his mind.

He’s right. The place this NPC got his fake medical license was recommended by this guy.

This is really quite awkward for some reason.

Jiang Yiyi calls out after a moment, “Si Jian, was it?”

“It’s a fake name.” He seems a little embarrassed, and walks closer to whisper, “since we’ve only just met, and weren’t really doing legal stuff, so I left a fake name with you.”

Lunatic, standing next to Lin Yi, looks a little, realises how ridiculously weak the guy is, and stares back at nothing once more.

Jiang Yiyi had a more detailed look at the memories. It’s true. From what he can remember, they were not even acquaintances, but did meet each other in a chance encounter.

The character Jiang Yiyi has failed his exam once more, and wanted to drink his troubles away. He didn’t have enough to pay up, so he was thrown out. He bawled his eyes out on the sidewalk——Only to see this guy, also wailing.

The two drunk losers confided in the other. So the guy then told him, the NPC, about this place where he can get licensed with ease.

He then started practising his trade illegally with a fake license, until he was caught and arrested.

“Remember now?” Meeting a familiar face——Not that they knew each other that well, but ‘Si Jian’ sure looks glad and even enthusiastic, “so how did you end up here?”

“For unlicensed medical practice.”

The guy falls silent.

He then hesitantly points to himself, “was it…”

“Never mind the past. How did you end up here?” Jiang Yiyi is intrigued——From their drunk conversation, he is able to build a clear picture of this guy.

A simple clerical staff who doesn’t know how to stand up for himself in the big company, and gets bullied for it all the time; his supervisor always assigned him the most work, and his coworkers leave their unfinished work to him. He even had that old cliché of his work ending up presented with his supervisor’s name while his own is absent.

But even so, when he was drunk and complaining, he is not angrily plotting petty revenge, but merely saying he will change jobs and leave them all one day, and not even having the courage for that.

How did this totally average, unremarkable office slave of a guy end up on the fourth floor of Stargaol?

Jiang Yiyi checks the plate on his chest, it’s pink——He’s killed people.

Did he end up snapping in an episode and finally killed his coworkers?

“You know each other?” Lin Yi walks closer to Jiang Yiyi and looks at Jian Si in surprise – or, more accurately, astonishment.

Jiang Yiyi looks at him, “from before my arrest.”

Lin Yi lifts a brow subconsciously, “before your arrest?” He checks out the Bunny he just saw yesterday once more, as he reviews information he knows about him. This makes him have quite the interesting look on his face.

“You know him too?”

“Yesterday, yeah.” Lin Yi does not intend to keep anything meaninglessly hidden, “Jian Si, sentenced to life for massive wire fraud and murder.”

Jian Si…?

The name causes Jiang Yiyi to immediately modify the label he had given him——Not just a special NPC, but the protagonist himself, the one everyone wants dead, and who dies in all sorts of new and exciting ways every day.

A protagonist who doesn’t so much as have plot armour as a plot-mandated death wish.

The fact that Jian Si knows Jiang Yiyi is causing a great deal of people to have to re-evaluate their file on Jiang Yiyi.

The file that has held up under scrutiny so far is now corroborated by Jian Si here as well.

It proves that Jiang Yiyi was definitely once the person on the file, and has interacted with others as such.

Not that Jian Si’s own file is clean either. The fact that he just ended up on the fourth floor is highly suspicious——In that sense, it is only muddying the already questionable file on Jiang Yiyi.

No evidence is holding up.

Lin Yi had quite a lot of thought done in a second, before deciding to ask with just the right amount of scepticism, “how did you know each other?”

Perhaps seeing someone he knew from before being falsely imprisoned——Someone who is no less of a loser than he is, mind——Relaxes Jian Si a lot, he walks next to Jian Si and plops his arm on Jian Si’s shoulder like an old friend, “before…”

Jiang Yiyi looks at his arm.

Jian Si pauses, then retracts his hand for reasons he cannot quite understand.

“You saw him yesterday?” Jiang Yiyi does not answer Lin Yi, but notes the prudent conclusion with a straightforward question, “at Black Glove’s?”

He then asks Jian Si, “what were you doing there?”

An all-too-familiar feeling has Lin Yi by the throat, shutting him up entirely. He realises something else – that Jiang Yiyi knows Jian Si can easily become the means by which Jiang Yiyi intervenes in the matter surrounding Black Glove.

The variable named Jiang Yiyi is completely beyond control, so much so that none of those already with a stake in the matter will want to see him involved.

Jian Si looks around and realises something——Like how Jiang Yiyi is different from what he remembers——His cowardly nature takes over again, and he meekly recounts everything.

The story only further confirms Jiang Yiyi’s impression of him – he truly is the protagonist courting the reaper with a new dance every day.

He glances towards Lion, who is watching them closely.

“I really was framed…” Jian Si tugs Jiang Yiyi’s sleeve slightly——Which makes Lin Yi a little tense if he is being honest.

“How could I ever kill anyone?” Jian Si is desperately seeking acknowledgement. The absurdity of his arrest and imprisonment is incomprehensible, “I… I might have hated them, but to kill…”

Jiang Yiyi stops looking to give his attention to Jian Si.

His childhood friend sure had a lot of grumbles about Jian Si. How meek, useless, spineless, and useless he is, to be the punching bag of the world——The game is difficult, mostly because this player insert character himself is too weak.

Maybe he really should have taken some time to play the game himself.

“Whether you did those things is not important anymore.” Jiang Yiyi is looking at the hand tugging at his sleeve, causing Jian Si to release his grip by instinct once more.

“Now that you’re here, what’s most important is that you survive to live another day.”

“But I was set up to take the blame.” Jian Si cannot accept this brutal conclusion, “I never did any of that.”

Jiang Yiyi sure is a little intrigued, now, having long since stopped seeing someone as refreshingly foolish.

“Then, do your best to clear your name.” Jiang Yiyi pats the guy on the shoulder, “I’ll cheer you on.”

Jian Si, though, grabs Jiang Yiyi’s hand to ask, “can’t you help me?”
