“Doctor?”

Jiang Yiyi has been staring at the blade long enough that Lin Yi believes he must intervene——The silence is making him feel terribly foreboding, and he must stop it before an even greater fear is planted.

The NPC has only two skills. Surgery. Psychology.

The former even had a lower level to start with.

Tch.

Jiang Yiyi looks up at Lin Yi, “were there anything suspicious on my file?”

Lin Yi stares in silence for a few seconds at the unexpected question, not even knowing how to answer.

He’s asking him if his own file had anything suspicious?

Is he for real right now?

Jiang Yiyi knows exactly what he’s thinking from the look, but he is not doing charity work today, “answer my question.”

Lin Yi feels like he is no longer a prison officer, but a personal assistant.

He answers slowly and tersely, “there was not.”

Jiang Yiyi raises his brow.

Lin Yi explains, “they’ve checked your file, and even made cross-references with your old school, teachers and past neighbours. Nothing was suspicious.”

Although it is quite the mind-boggling statement, Lin Yi comments, “both direct and circumstantial evidence proves that Jiang Yiyi has always been an unassuming, unlearned and lazy bum his entire life.”

Jiang Yiyi gets what Lin Yi is trying to imply, “is there direct proof that I am Jiang Yiyi?”

He’s really asking?

Lin Yi asks Jiang Yiyi in turn with a complex look on his face, “Doctor, did you have amnesia?”

Jiang Yiyi replies calmly, “I merely have a niggling doubt that I want confirmed.”

Suspecting that you are not actually Jiang Yiyi himself is yet a ‘niggling doubt’?

“According to all information we had from physical check-ups, and DNA data from birth, you are, without a doubt, Jiang Yiyi.”

Jiang Yiyi nods. The answer is not surprising——For he knows better than anyone else just how outrageously powerful this NPC is. A character who can easily level his Surgery to the maximum level with a few operations.

“It appears you have done your homework on me well.”

“When Doctor appears as different from the ‘Jiang Yiyi’ on file, I think it’s perfectly reasonable.” Then Lin Yi asks directly, “it seems the Doctor is carrying some secrets, however.”

“Do you need help?”

Jiang Yiyi look at Lin Yi.

“If there is anything to be dug up from this perfect file, then there is only the fact that Doctor was sentenced to prison.” Lin Yi observes Jiang Yiyi’s expression closely, to note any abnormal emotional changes to come, “that joke of a trial and sentencing only proves that Doctor has come to the Han Federation Stargaol for a reason.”

He does not discover anything of note on Jiang Yiyi’s poker face.

“Does the Doctor remember that reason at all?” Lin Yi asks, and before Jiang Yiyi even answers, he answers himself, “I am certain Doctor thinks he has no reason to come.”

“Then perhaps this is exactly where the problem lies?”

Jiang Yiyi tilts his head at him for a few seconds, before remarking, “it seems you do have a mission of paramount importance. I see just how determined you are to reach the fourth floor.”

Lin Yi is a freshly assigned prison officer, and naturally, has no reason to be on the fourth floor at all——After all, Stargaol has quite the stringent requirements for prison officers on each floor, and like the rule that dangerous individuals must be sent to appropriate floors, that is an ironclad rule.

Therefore, he would only have two roads down to the fourth floor——As another prisoner, or, as an Outstanding Supervisor.

The former is easiest, but clearly, being incarcerated was incompatible with Lin Yi’s goals.

This latter option is far more difficult, as he had to find a prisoner who is dangerous enough, but must also survive the entire time under his control.

Jiang Yiyi is his most opportune choice thus far. It is difficult to say if he ever regrets this choice after knowing Jiang Yiyi better, however.

However, if you asked his true feelings, Lin Yi would say, he does not regret it the slightest. Are you serious? He would rather have choked himself to death before he ever had the bright idea of negotiating with Jiang Yiyi.

Jiang Yiyi is completely beyond his ability to control. In fact, he is the one pushing everything into entropic disorder.

It is how it is, though. Unless Jiang Yiyi dies for some reason, and their Outstanding Supervising relationship is annulled or retracted, Lin Yi has no other recourse——And, clearly, attempting to kill Jiang Yiyi is another sure-fire way to the afterlife.

“I am still right, though.” Lin Yi continues his persuasion, “for the Doctor, the first, second, and even the third floor will not have your reason.”

“As they are too harmless for you.” Lin Yi states with confidence, “the ‘unknown’ reason the Doctor has forgotten about, must be on the fourth floor, or even below that.”

“Do you not feel like figuring out this niggling doubt at all?”

Jiang Yiyi is quiet for a few seconds. He’d be fooling no one but himself if he said he was not interested. How much interest, though, would be another question entirely.

That said, being interested is a phrase already enough to help him make a choice.

“I believe we have reached a consensus.” Lin Yi picks up on the subtle changes in Jiang Yiyi’s attitude quickly.

Jiang Yiyi stares at Lin Yi with his poker face for a few seconds, and gives him a friendly warning.

“It is a far better thing for everyone that I remain on the first couple floors——Including, for you.”

“If I had a choice, I would not be doing this either.” Lin Yi replies calmly, “but I have not, and so, even if I were leading a demon deep into Hell, I must complete my mission.”

“A firm conviction. Then, I do believe we have reached a consensus.”

“Before this, however, I have some business to take care of.”

Lin Yi reflexively asks, “Lone Wolf?”

Jiang Yiyi pats him on the shoulder, then walks past him, “I’ll go check on Lunatic. Don’t come after.”
