Chapter 42

The landscape, which had become smaller when looking down below out of the window, gradually regained its outline.

The pterodactyl that had been flying high up in the air was descending, so I knew that my destination was near.

Mercuris touched my body again. As soon as the pterodactyl descended, my body, which had been feeling dizzy and heavy, instantly became lighter.

“If I have to use this kind of magic power when rising and landing, then I can’t ride the pterodactyl alone, can I?”

When I muttered this with regret, Mercuris smiled as if troubled.

Once your body gets used to it after riding it many times, you won’t need to use magic. But it’s too dangerous to leave Liddy on the pterodactyl alone.”

“I’d like to practise handling the pterodactyl too.”

“No, you can’t. If you fall or if the pterodactyl goes wild and injures you, Liddy-chan, who is a fragile human race, will be in serious trouble.

“Yes, I understand.”

I can’t force Mercuris to cause trouble.

If I want to practice, I wonder if I should ask Gilbert-sama. Or maybe Ria or Astaroth would keep me company, but they seem to be busy right now, so I will ask them if we have another chance.

If I can handle a pterodactyl, it might be useful for something.

In this country where everyone has magical power, I am too helpless, so I would like to increase what I can do at least a little.

The pterodactyl landed in the town square.

I sighed at the powerful sight of huge pterodactyls all over the place as Gilbert-sama pulled me down from the top of the pterodactyl.

The pterodactyls looked at Gilbert-sama all at once, and their bodies were shrunken looking very frightened.

Mercuris, who came down after us, also looked somewhat shrunken, unlike usual.

“Mercuris-san, are you all right?”

“Yes, yes, I’m fine!　Please assume that I’m not here, Lydith-sama.”

“I hope you behave same as usual.”

“Oh, that’s no good.”

Mercuris nervously shook her head.

Gilbert looked at our exchange strangely and tilted his head.

“Are you different than usual, Mercuris?”

“N-no way! I’m the same as usual!”

“Gilbert-sama, Mercuris is very close to me. I feel as if she is the first family I’ve had since I came here. She calls me Liddy-chan.”

“Liddy-chan.”

“Yes. My brother calls me Liddy and my mother calls me Liddy. So I am very happy to be called me that.”

From now on, it will be difficult to use different attitudes in front of me and in front of Gilbert-sama. At the very least, I want Mercuris to be at ease in informal situations and be her usual self.

“I’m also happy to talk to Mercuris because it reminds me of my mother, who never said goodbye to me properly.”

Gilbert-sama looked at me seriously and said again, “Liddy-chan”.

“Gilbert-sama’s face is so frightening that it scares Mercuris. Even if Mercuris is being friendly to me, you wouldn’t be angry with her, would you?”

“I’m not reprimanding you. if that’s okay with Lydith.”

“Ugh ……, I thought Mercuris was going to be blamed for disrespect and be removed.”

Mercuris-san hugged me from behind and buried his face in his shoulder. I decided to pat her on the head with a good-natured smile. I understood that she really wanted to hide it from me, so I will apologise to her later.

“Lydith, my face… is it Scary?”

“Don’t tell me you’re not aware of it?”

“Because I’ve never thought about my face before,”  said Gilbert-sama, Distressed.

Certainly, Gilbert-sama, who lived in isolation, probably didn’t need to worry about his appearance, and his status as a prince probably spurred that.

“Yes, that’s right. I mean in general, not in terms of a frightening face. As for me, I don’t know how to… say it, but yes, I find you very attractive, like a lone Lion reigning in the deep, high mountains.”

“… I wish you could say it more plainly.”

Unfortunately, my elegant, poetic compliment didn’t seem to get across.

I recently noticed that Gilbert-sama’s masculinity felt very fresh to me, who had only seen my beautiful but feminine brother and Raphael-sama who had a gentle feeling.

I guess I love my father, but just as my mother prefers rugged knights in her personal tastes, I have also realised that I really like the way Gilbert-sama looks.

Perhaps it’s blood. Blood cannot be disputed. Will I eventually come to score points for muscular bodies like my mother? It’s terrifying.

“Uh… I like it.”

“I see.”

No good, I’m blushing. It’s as if I can’t hide  my emotions. I’ve made so many blunders like this lately.

Gilbert-sama looked at me happily, so I added: “It’s your face, I’m talking about the shape.”

I wondered where Gilbert-sama, who was so embarrassed and shy at first, had gone. It’s a pity that he was staring at me with a smirk.

“Gilbert-sama, Liddy-chan. It’s very funny, but if you talk here, it will stand out, so let’s go to the shop!”

Mercuris called out to us and I nod in agreement.

The pterodactyls were shrinking around us, and people of a race I had never seen before were bowing to Gilbert-sama.

We knew that it was a nuisance to come to the city centre on anything other than official business, but it seemed to be the same in this country too.

Gilbert-sama didn’t seem to be bothered by it and took my hand and started walking.

Since Mercuris was the only one who knew where the shop was, she took the lead and showed us the way, saying, “This way”.

The town looked like something out of a fairy tale, with houses with colourful roofs resembling the shape of flowers and lamps resembling lilies placed here and there. Many of the stalls were lined with ornaments. The colours were glittering, but black, deep red and grey stood out, giving a rather dark impression.

Passing by, people of the human flower tribe gave way and bowed to us. The people of the human flower tribe had a variety of flowers on their heads. At first I thought they were hair ornaments, but it seemed that the flowers grow directly on their heads, just like their hair.

The women were dressed in fluffy white and peach-coloured dresses, the opposite of the black lace dresses worn by the Human butterfly Tribe. The dresses were decorated with large flowers, which, on closer inspection, seemed to be repeatedly blooming and budding, changing into different flowers, blooming and budding in different ways.

Words such as “It’s Gilbert-sama” “Prince-sama”  and “The one with the magic imprint is the daughter of a human race,” could be heard from all around.

“I heard that there are many people who don’t know your face, Gilbert-sama, but I see that you are easily recognised.”

I ask, looking up at Gilbert-sama, who was walking without a hint of concern for the bustle of the surroundings, while holding my hand.

‘He must be keeping pace with me, he is walking at a leisurely pace, so I can fully admire the city.’

“We’re sensitive to the magic inside. We instinctively understand the power of the King we inherited from Heinzolde. Only you human races don’t know who I am when you see me, do you?”

“I could feel Gilbert-sama’s magic power when it flowed into my body. I can only tell at that time, but the demons always feel something like a presence, don’t they?”

“A presence, eh? Well, something like that, I suppose.”

“I wonder if one day I will be able to feel your presence too, Just like the demons… I’ll do my best until that happens.”

“Don’t… agitate me, Lydith.”

Gilbert-sama’s voice was glossy and hoarse.

I didn’t really understand it, but magic power must be something special to Gilbert-sama and the others.

Mercuris, who was walking ahead, let out a small scream and hid her face with her hands. Perhaps I was talking obscenely on the street in broad daylight.

Somehow I felt embarrassed and lowered my face.
