Lydis the Bride and the Vessel of the Goddess 1 (9)

I was being escorted to the room where I once dined with Gilbert-sama, and while I was watching Gilbert-sama and Astaroth walking alongside me and slightly in front of me, I became curious and spoke.

“Gilbert-sama and the others can walk in the air and teleport, so you also do some walking”

Astaroth glanced back at me and shrugged.

“Even birds don’t fly in the air at all hours of the day, Lydith. If you waste your magic power, you can get a little tired, and if you rely on it too much, you’ll lose strength. Normally, I try not to use it too much. It wouldn’t look good to be out of breath after just a little movement in an emergency, would it?”

“I see. So, in our case, we don’t rely too much on civilization, and we also don’t forget to improve ourselves. That’s wonderful.”

“There is not much fighting anymore, but there were many bloodthirsty people among the demon tribe, especially when there is a new king, there is always an uprising for change. Gilbert is strong, of course, but I, Ria, and Chuzel are strong enough to prevent anyone with hostile intentions from reaching the king.”

“So there are lots of fighting.”

“Yes, If you have a weapon, you will want to fight. It’s the same thing. Some people have a lot of magic power, but they are not very smart.”

“I’ll protect you, I promise. I won’t put you in any danger.”

Gilberto-sama spoke in a low voice like he was talking to himself, so I clung to his hand, which I was holding with both hands.

As I stared at Gilbert-sama, who was embarrassed to say it aloud, Astaroth muttered with a wry smile, “I can’t believe the day will come when I see you like this.”

Ria was already seated in the dining room, and when we entered, he nodded lightly.

Mercuris, who had been waiting at the entrance, bowed deeply and took her place behind my seat.

Several other women of the butterfly tribe were dressed in beautiful dresses made of the same delicate lace as Mercuris’, though less ornate.

Her wings are the largest and most beautiful, as Mercuris had said.

The wings of the other butterflies were also beautiful in their own way, but they were a size or two smaller than the ones Mercuris had.

“Liddy-Chan, If there is anything you can’t eat, please let Mercuris know.”

“Thank you very much Mercuris. I don’t think I have any likes or dislikes, but I will let you know if there is anything I need.”

I wonder if I should call them the Butterfly Maids.

They are glamorous and made the room look more glamorous than ever just by serving us. The room was decorated with flowers and plants, and the simple four-sided lamps had been replaced by gorgeous candelabras and chandeliers.

Well-polished silver spoons and forks lined the table. Astaroth and Ria glasses were filled with fizzy drinks, perhaps alcoholic beverages.

Butterfly wings glittered and plates floated from a golden dinner cart by themselves. Slender fingertips gracefully picked up the plates and placed them in front of each of us.

It was a fantastic sight, even though they were just preparing our meal. I didn’t know the names of the maids other than Mercuris, but I hope to be able to say hello to them soon.

After the plates arrangements were finished, Mercuris and the others stepped out from the room once Astaroth indicated the door with his fingertips.

From the gestures of Astaroth, who was used to giving instructions to the maids, it was clear that the butterfly tribe had indeed been maids at the castle for a long time.

On the plates were bread, soup, sautéed fish, jewel-like fruits that I had not seen before, and thinly sliced meats with a white milky sauce.

The quality and quantity of the food was so different from what I have had in the past, and although I am hungry, it was so extravagant that I felt full just looking at it. I felt bad about leaving the food, but I have not been eating properly lately, so I did not think I would be able to eat it all.

“Now, Lydith, please enjoy your meal. The wood nymphs gathered the ingredients and the fire nymphs made it, so it’s very neat.”

Astaroth, sitting in front of me, smiled. The snake, always coiled around its body, was resting on the chair next to Astaroth, with its head resting on the table, which was adorable.

“Yes, I’ll have some of that.”

Remembering that I had forgotten to say the pre-meal prayer for a moment, I put my hands together and casted down my eyes.

The person to pray to is said to be Elvisa, the goddess of fertility, but I doubt that anyone really prayed sincerely.

Even if it was a token of prayer, I was taught that it is a courtesy before a meal, so it was somehow calming to do it.

When I finished praying, Gilbert-sama took my folded hands and showed it to both of them.

“In case you didn’t already know, I have decided to make Lydith officially my bride.”

Gilbert-sama’s fingertips caressed the imprint on the back of my hand.

It’s not that I didn’t like it, but it made me feel somewhat uncomfortable. Before I could figure out why, Gilbert’s hand left my hand.
