Chapter 89 - The Only Family I Have

The sun has sunk deeper into the western sky, as the two figures sat in silence. The sky's now colored rust red with a gold lining. With the birds flying past the sunset singing a beautiful song, a lullaby to the colorful setting sun.

Amongst all this there was a tense silence as Lucifer was waiting for Sera's reaction, hardly daring to breathe. Likewise Sera was trying to keep her haywire emotions in check, holding her breathe.

Lucifer's heart was in his mouth when Sera didn't utter a word of response. He was already very anxious, in his nervousness Lucifer had blabbed a lot of things that were at the tip of his tongue.

Lucifer was not a very emotional person, very few people can bring out this side of him and Sera had become one of them.

Sensing something amiss Lucifer was about to raise his head when Sera abruptly spoke breaking the silence.

"What about this leaf then?.. Ha?", Sera asked pointing to the tiny green crystal leaf. Sera's voice was low but a little hoarse, a befuddled Lucifer peered at Sera with a silly expression on his godly handsome face. Sera chuckled seeing his face laced with confusion making his heart flutter.

"This.. It's Ethan!", Lucifer blurted.

"Huh?", Sera could only gawk at Lucifer hearing his response.

"He's the only family I have, apart from you! So..", Lucifer trailed off.

Sera only nodded her head in response to his words. Lucifer was certainly not happy talking about his family and she didn't want to impose by forcing him to divulge anything, at least not yet.

Sera's intention was to lighten the atmosphere with her abrupt silly question, but who knew that her question would lead to an answer that'd paint their tangled future in front of her oblivious eyes.

Lucifer helped Sera to stand and kissed her forehead before walking inside to fetch her purse, while Sera sat herself in the car waiting for him. Looking at the streetlights Sera could feel the melancholy in her heart. A sigh escaping her pink lips, touching the cold pendant dangling on her neck.

The sky was dark, It was getting late and Su Yin was alone at the Lu mansion. She was getting agitated waiting for Sera and was binge watching her k-dramas, munching on the cookies she had baked for Sera.

At noon, Su Yin had rushed back from the cafe to cook for Sera all her favorite dishes and baked her favorite choco chip cookies.

It was seven in the evening now, and Sera had yet to return home. Aunt Zhou told Su Yin to get some rest comforting her that Sera would soon be back.

Su Yin couldn't wait anymore and dashed out, dressed in a black hoodie and shorts with white sneakers, she looked like a teenager. Su Yin was walking aimlessly when she found herself in front of the cafe.

Shrugging her shoulders Su Yin entered the cafe, Lillian saw her and sauntered towards Su Yin with a huge grin to welcome the latter.

"Hey there, were you lost again?", Lillian cracked a little joke making Su Yin blush.

"No, Actually I was craving something sweet... with strawberries", Su Yin replied sheepishly.

"Sure, C'mon in..", Lillian walked inside with Su Yin following her.

Su Yin occupied the last table that was faraway from the entrance and obscured from the prying eyes, going through the menu.

There were only a few people at the cafe at this time. Two couples, a young couple and a middle aged couple. And a group of students, all were having a whale of a time.

It was the birthday of one of the students, a large strawberry cake was placed in the center of the table with a lot of candles, the group were singing birthday song and a pretty girl with short hair was cutting the cake with a huge grin pasted on her face with a tinge of red on her cheeks.

Su Yin was infected by their contagious mood, humming softly, her face was brightly lit with an even bright smile adorning her plump lips.

Adrian stood at the corner of the kitchen counter, his eyes locked on the smiling figure. He took out his cellphone and trying to capture the rare moment where he can see her carefree and lively smile.

With a click the the dainty figure was captured on his phone, he held it tightly in his hands before stuffing it back into his pocket.
