Chapter 378 - End of dinner

When it was about 11 p.m, the director gave a short speech to thank everyone before saying, "I know some of you have family, so if you want to go home early, you can go now. As for the others, feel free to drink and eat until the shop closed."

"Yaay!!!"

"Thank you, director!!!" some of the crew members cheered as they raised their glasses.

A couple of minutes later, some of them finally got up and left, while others continued to eat and drink to their hearts' content. As for the director, he also left after personally thanking all his main actors and actresses for the job well done.

"Ah, Shaohang, I hope that you would consider acting in a few more movies after this," the director said before burping a little. He had had quite a bit to drink today as well, so his speech was a little slurred.

Fan Shaohang laughed softly as he helped the director's assistant in keeping the man upright. "I'll think about it. Maybe if you pick up another good script, I'd consider acting under you again. As of now, it's time for you to go home."

With the assistant director's help, he then took the director to his car.

...

Now that the person who invited her was gone, Xiao Lei did not feel bad about leaving anymore, so she excused herself and took Assistant Yoon with her as she left the restaurant.

Since Han Ye said that he would be coming over to pick them up, Xiao Lei waited with Assistant Yoon outside the restaurant. After being cooped indoor with so many people, she wanted nothing more than fresh air and a break from people who tried to push her into doing things.

"Urgh..."

Xiao Lei turned to look at Assistant Yoon, who was looking paler by the minute, and asked worriedly, "Are you alright, Assistant Yoon? You don't look too good."

Assistant Yoon shook her head and smiled weakly. She then tried to stand up straight as she said, "I'm fine... Just drank too much. I would be fine after a while... B-but I think I need to sit for a while..."

"Ah, I feel bad now," Xiao Lei said with a regretful sigh as she helped Assistant Yoon to sit down on the stairs outside the restaurant. "I'll go get you something that will help you feel better," Xiao Lei said when she saw how Assistant Yoon was trying to hold down the vomit.

However, before she could leave, a hand suddenly grabbed onto hers, and she looked down at Assistant Yoon.

"N-no... Not safe," Assistant Yoon said as she released Xiao Lei's hand. She was Xiao Lei's bodyguard, so she had to be with her the entire time that Xiao Lei was still with the film crew. Her job would only end once Xiao Lei was back at home or with Han Ye.

"Well, if someone were to come after me, it wouldn't be safe for me to stay here as well. Not with you looking like that," Xiao Lei said. "I'll be back real soon," she said as she pointed at a convenience store across the street, "I'm just going there to get you something."

Without waiting for Assistant Yoon's reply, she then jogged across the street after making sure that the light had turned green. Xiao Lei bought some light food as well as painkillers, just in case Assistant Yoon woke up with a hangover tomorrow.

When she was waiting for the light to change, she noticed that a man in a black cap and a black mask on was walking toward her. Since it was a little chilly lately, a lot of people had been wearing masks and caps, so this was nothing to be worried about. However, something about the man struck Xiao Lei in the wrong way.

It was hard to explain, perhaps it was his unfocused eyes, which were darting around nervously, or perhaps it was the way the man was hunched over as he walked, but Xiao Lei's guts told her to be careful of the man. She took a step back so that she was standing closer to the convenience store, with her back almost touching the mirrored wall of the store so that she could limit her blind spots.

It was late, so there weren't that many people walking around at this hour. If anything were to happen to her, she wouldn't be able to receive any help.

When the man walked past her, Xiao Lei saw that the man's eyes suddenly focused and he was glaring at her, upon which she narrowed her eyes in response. She was right to do so, for in a split second, the man pulled out a knife from his pocket as he turned toward her and lunged at her while yelling, "B*tch, die!"

Having remain alert, Xiao Lei immediately slapped the man's hand aside before stepping aside. Unfortunately, when she stepped aside, her left foot landed on a small crack on the floor, and she twisted her ankle.

"Argh..." Xiao Lei groaned when she felt the pain shooting up her foot. Luckily, she did not fell down, or it would be bad. She kept her eyes on the man as she wondered what to do next. Running was not an option since she did not think she could outrun anyone with her current state.

"ARGHH!!!" A passerby yelled loudly when she saw the glint of the knife in the man's hand, thus alerting some people from the opposite side of the wide street. They looked toward their direction, and one of them ran into the BBQ restaurant to ask for help.

Xiao Lei looked at the woman who yelled, who was too petrified to move, and she slowly moved toward the woman subconsciously, hoping that the woman would not do anything that would draw the attention of the attacker.

However, Xiao Lei got it wrong. The attacker came for her specifically, and she realized this when she saw the attacker's eyes following her movement.

"Go..." Xiao Lei hissed at the woman, and when the woman did not move, she shouted, "Do you want to die?!"

The woman nodded and quickly ran off.

"Who sent you?" Xiao Lei asked in a low voice after the woman ran off.

"God!" the man snapped as he raised the knife with both hands and lunged at her again.

It was a good thing that Xiao Lei had some martial arts lessons, or she would have been unable to defend herself. She expertly dodged the man's attack, but all of a sudden, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her stomach, causing her attention to be briefly diverted.

When she glanced up, the man's knife was plunging down into her heart.

BAM!
