Chapter 243 - Uncle Bear

Head Manager Han and Dr. Wing watched the few hours worth of recording. In between, Dr. Wing would get up to get them something to drink or snack on. Head Manager Han was so focused on watching the video that Dr. Wing did not want to bother him.

She merely smiled gently as she sat next to her. In this world, she knew that no one would know Head Manager Han more than her. And she knew that, at this moment, even if he did not have any expressions on his face, Head Manager Han was happy. Perhaps not extremely happy, but he was happy nonetheless.

"If Han Ye were here, I bet Xuan would be even happier," Dr. Wing thought as she took a peek at the man she fell in love with. She had thought that he would never touch her again, but she guessed that his way of grieving was unique. Whenever something was bothering him, the Head Manager Han that she knew would always do something different from what he usually did.

"I'd take whatever you're willing to give me," Dr. Wing thought again as she gently placed her head against his shoulder.

On the screen...

After Old Mrs. Tay thought that Tay Dingxuan had fallen asleep, she then gave a call to her son. Once she confirmed that her son was on the way over, she then placed a kiss on Tay Dingxuan's forehead before leaving for work.

After she closed the door behind her, Tay Dingxuan opened his eyes and sat up. He looked at the door mischievously before getting down from the bed. Using his wheelchair, he wheeled himself to right in front of the giant teddy bear.

With a smile, he said, "Uncle Bear..."

He then shook his head and said, "Uncle Xuan..."

He then giggled and said, "Did I surprise you? I knew you are my uncle a long time ago. Grandma had probably forgotten about it, but she pointed you out to me before, on the TV."

Head Manager Han watched as the boy reached out to grab the teddy bear's cheeks.

"Uncle Xuan, can you please forgive Grandma? Did you hear what she said earlier? The only person she loves more than you is me..." Tay Dingxuan chuckled and looked at the camera with a wry expression. "I know she's lying. She loves you more. Dad told me before that he might have grandma with him, but not her mind. Grandma's mind was always about you."

Tay Dingxuan then leaned back in his wheelchair. He frowned and clutched his chest before closing his eyes and taking small breaths.

Head Manager Han and Dr. Wing could see that Tay Dingxuan was having trouble breathing.

After a while, Tay Dingxuan's pained expression was replaced by a weak smile as he muttered, "I can't wait till I'm better."

He then looked back into the camera and sighed. "I don't know what happened between you and Grandma, but you love me, right?"

He coughed a little before continuing, "If... if you love me, c-can you please do this one thing for me?"

Tay Dingxuan coughed. He then quickly covered his mouth and looked at the door, as if he was afraid that someone might hear him and come in. Once he was sure that no one was going to come in, he slowly removed his hands from his mouth and looked back at the camera.

"I... I don't know if I can do it... But I promised Grandma before, that I would take her out on a date. Like how Grandpa used to do for her back when he was alive. And if you get this recording..."

He smiled sadly and said, "It means that I can't fulfill my promise. Please help me complete this wish of mine."

...

After they finished watching the recording for that day, Head Manager Han turned off the TV and walked back into the room. He lay on the bed with his hands behind his head.

When he heard a rustle, he knew that Dr. Wing was lying beside him, and not long after, he felt her warm hand on his chest.

He glanced at Dr. Wing and said, "Go home, Wing."

She shook her head and placed her head on his chest as she mumbled, "Not tonight. Just tonight. Let me be here with you, alright?"

"What's the point, Wing? I told you before that I won't pursue anything with you. Go and look for someone else."

"I could," she said and looked up at him, "but that person wouldn't be you, so what's the point?"

Head Manager Han pushed her away gently and sat up, back facing her. "I can't keep doing this, Wing."

There was an awkward silence for a few seconds before he heard the rustling sound made by the covers, and before he knew it, she was already hugging him from behind.

"I won't leave you, Xuan. I'm not your mother or your stepmother," Wing said softly before placing a kiss on his n.a.k.e.d shoulder. "I love you..."

She then moved to straddle him. As he looked at her with a frown, she placed her hands on his cheeks and said, "Han Xuan, I love you. If you don't want to have a child, I won't force you. But just don't push me away, alright?"

He stared at her for a long time, and when he was about to say something, Dr. Wing hugged him tightly and whispered, "Please... I don't have anyone else but you too..."

Head Manager Han clenched his jaws. They were both orphans who had no one. Even though they had the Shenlong Family and even though they were grateful to the Shenlong Family for saving them from an otherwise bleak future, but they also knew that Shenlong Family adopted them because of their capabilities and that the family would not hesitate to kick them out if they did not perform.

Hence, they had never established anything other than loyalty to the Shenlong Family. Everything was done because of the word "loyalty". Perhaps it was because of that that they sometimes longed to be someone.

Head Manager Han often thought about what it would be like if he could stay with his stepmother and his brother. He would often wonder about life as a normal average person and whether he would be able to have a perfect family of his own.

He had never mentioned all these thoughts to anyone because of his fear of being ridiculed.

"Keep your emotions hidden" and "You are a soldier who should not have your own thoughts during missions" were sayings that were drilled into his head since young. And Head Manager Han kept this to heart.

He looked down at his hands that were placed on his knees. "How many lives have I taken so far?" he mumbled to himself.

Dr. Wing heard him, and she looked at his face and said softly, "None that did not deserve it."

"I don't want to hurt you," Head Manager Han said softly. His face softened as he showed a rare occasion of insecurity. "I don't want to hurt you again."

"What do you mean?" she asked curiously. She then thought about something and asked, "Have you been blaming yourself for our son's death? You told me not to blame myself, so why are you blaming yourself?"

He mumbled a reply, "If I were more careful, you wouldn't have gotten pregnant. And you wouldn't have been in so much pain."

Upon hearing his reply, Dr. Wing smiled softly. This man, who she had loved when she thought she could never love, was always placing himself in the frontline, protecting her in his own way.

"Xuan," she said softly before gently placing a kiss on his lips. When she parted from him, she whispered, "I've never regretted anything."

Her words touched his heart, and he looked at her face with slightly widened eyes. Head Manager Han then put his hands on her h.i.p.s, and with one swift move, he placed her down on the bed and was straddling her. "Why did you keep bothering me? Even when I was cold toward you."

She smiled and raised her hands up to caress his cheeks. "Your expressions might be cold, but you have the warmest heart that I have ever seen... whether it was when we were kids, or now..."

"What if I tell you that I'm not going to do anything else for my mother? Would you..."

Before he could finish his words, she pulled his head down and kissed him on the lips.

"I will always stand by you," she said with a smile. "But I see you've made the decision to go see her."

He hesitated for a moment before admitting it with a nod.

"For Dingxuan. To fulfill his last wish. That's the last thing I can do for him as his uncle."
