Chapter 231 - Jie is a good boy

"Are you leaving him here?" Little Han Xuan asked after a moment of hesitation.

"Yes."

"Why? Did he do something wrong?" Little Han Xuan asked as he clenched his fists tightly. He did not think that such a little boy could do a bad thing.

"No. Jie is a good boy," the man said with a soft, loving voice. "But it's better for him. Sometimes, loving someone means leaving them."

The man wanted the little boy to have a normal life. To do so, he had organized for the boy to be adopted by a childless wealthy couple that could give the boy the help he needed.

The little boy shook his head and buried his head into the man's chest. "Daddy..."

"What's your name, kid?" the man asked Little Han Xuan. He dropped the stern tone and tried to talk more normally.

Little Han Xuan thought for a while before replying, "What's your name? You should tell me yours first."

The man stared at Little Han Xuan for a few seconds before he laughed softly. "You're a brave one. Kids are usually afraid of me."

Little Han Xuan looked at the little boy on the man's arm and said, "He's not afraid of you."

"He's special..." the man said. He then offered a hand to Little Han Xuan and said, "My name is Shenlong Yanhuang. Now, can you tell me yours?"

Little Han Xuan stared at the man's hand for a while before shaking it. "Han Xuan."

"Han Xuan? Good name," Shenlong Yanhuang said. He knelt down on one knee and put the little boy in his arms down on the ground. He then looked at Little Han Xuan and said, "His new adoptive parents would be coming to pick him up in a few days. Until then, can you help me look over him?"

Little Han Xuan looked at the boy with the sad eyes, and he could not help but think about his baby brother who he had not seen for a long time.

"Daddy..." the little boy murmured as he grabbed onto Shenlong Yanhuang's shirt. "No leave..."

"He hasn't learned to speak properly yet?" Little Han Xuan asked curiously as he looked at the boy, who was supposed to be at the age where he could speak normally.

"He was... hurt by others and threatened into silence, but he's slowly beginning to speak again. It will take him some time before he can speak in a full sentence, but he's smart, so it won't take too long." The man patted the little boy's head lovingly as he said so.

Shenlong Yanhuang did not want to leave the boy behind, but he did not want to place the boy in any more danger. He was only back to finish one mission, but he stayed longer than he intended to because of this boy who tugged his heart. However, his whereabouts were found out by his enemies, and the boy nearly got hurt when he was being ambushed.

Shenlong Yanhuang did not want the boy to be hurt ever again, and even though he thought about taking the boy overseas with him, Shenlong Yanhuang thought that it would be better for the boy to be adopted.

With the boy's condition as well as the horrible abuse he went through, he would need a lot of counseling and attention. Most importantly, he would need a stable environment in which he could heal properly. All of these were things that Shenlong Yanhuang could not give him at the moment.

He wanted to stay with the little boy until he was adopted, but he did not think that he could bear the crying that would come later.

"He's cute..."

Little Han Xuan's voice caused Shenlong Yanhuang to look up, and when he did so, Little Han Xuan added, "He looks like a girl..."

"That's a blessing and a curse," Shenlong Yanhuang thought when he recalled the little boy's tragic experience.

"I'll take care of him until his new parents come along." Little Han Xuan made up his mind.

Shenlong Yanhuang smiled and nodded. "Thanks."

....

Head Manager Han remembered that a couple of days later, the little boy was taken away by his new family. And not long after that, President Du Jin came and had a talk with him. Within a few days, Head Manager Han recalled that he was taken to a facility to do some physical check-up and mental test before he was eventually taken to the Shenlong Family.

"The kid's name is Jie. I don't know if he was the kid you're looking for, because he was quite young. I'm not sure about his exact age since I wasn't bothered by it, but he looked like he was 6 or 7 years old."

"His name is Jie? It can't be that much of a coincidence," Han Ye murmured.

"Humans are connected," Dr. Wing said with a smile. When Han Ye looked at her, she said cryptically, "Every meeting is predestined. It's just a matter of whether one realized it or not."

Han Ye smiled. This felt like something that Sima Erden would say. In fact, he had a feeling that Sima Erden would say the exact same words if he were here.

Han Ye then looked at Head Manager Han and said, "So, the kid... Do you know who he was adopted by?"

Head Manager Han shook his head. "No, only that they were rich, judging from the Porsche they came in."

Han Ye frowned. That was not a lot of information that he could go with. If he was right, Shenlong Yanhuang moved out of the country not long after, and to avoid the men sent by Old Master Shenlong, he hopped all over the world with his wife until his wife got pregnant. After his wife passed away, he continued to hop around with his young son until he got too sick to continue moving.

"If you want to know anything, maybe you can ask Master Feihuang," Dr. Wing said. When Han Ye looked at her, Dr. Wing continued, "If there's anyone who might know something about this boy that Master Yanhuang took into his care before, then that person would be Master Feihuang. If he doesn't know anything, then I'm afraid that no one else would."

Head Manager Han nodded in agreement. "All of the workers at the orphanage back when I was there would have been dead by now. They were already quite old back then. Master Feihuang would be the only thread now."

Han Ye nodded. He would try to talk to Callum and see if the latter could speak to his uncle about this.

Head Manager Han suddenly frowned and dropped his cigarette on the floor before stepping on them. "If you're done talking, go away."

Han Ye frowned. He was confused by the man's sudden change of behavior. "Is that how you treat your younger long-lost brother?"

Dr. Wing laughed softly. "Trust me, he cares for you."

Han Ye smiled. He knew that by now. With a wry grin, he then said to Dr. Wing, "Tell him not to smoke so much."

Head Manager Han's lips twitched slightly, but he did not say anything.

"I'll take care of him," Dr. Wing said with a smile as she looked at Han Ye.

Han Ye nodded and thanked her. He then walked back to the car.

"Did you have a good talk with Head Manager Han?" Xiao Lei asked. "I saw that his lips were moving quite a lot. And who is that woman?"

Han Ye nodded. "She's an old friend of his."

He did not want to lie to Xiao Lei, but he could not tell her the nature of their relationsh.i.p.s as well. Hence, he told her something that he could, which was that Head Manager Han and Dr. Wing were friends.

Before she could ask more, he told her that those two were here to attend the funeral of Tay Dingxuan. Once he was done, she sighed and said, "His parents must be in a lot of pain now. Han Ye, you should go pay your respects as well. No matter what, even if you're not related in blood to the poor child, you're still somewhat an uncle to him."

Han Ye nodded. "I will go soon, but not today."
