Chapter 189 - That's your brother

"They actually forgave him?" she thought as they walked to NICU, which was the room the baby was kept in. If it were her, she doubted she would find it in her to forgive someone that caused her so much pain. While thinking about everything, she nodded solemnly as she thought, "Madam President Du is definitely a brave and kind woman..."

At the party back when she first met Kai Xin, she saw how close Kai Xin was to Lu Ziyan. It made her wonder if there were more to the story.

"Ah, you guys are here!"

A woman's voice caused Xiao Lei to snap out of her thoughts. She looked up and saw that there was a crowd standing outside NICU. Most of them had their eyes on the single baby inside the room, who they were staring at from the other side of the clear glass panel.

"Ms. An," Lu Ziyan greeted the woman who was waving at them.

An Qiyan smiled and walked over with Jane Chu, who had arrived earlier upon hearing about Kai Xin going into labor earlier than expected. An Qiyan picked up Little Monkey while Jane Chu picked up Mo Yuan.

"This is Xiao Lei. Xiao Lei, this is Kai Xin's mother, Ms. An Qiyan," Lu Ziyan said as he introduced Xiao Lei to the others.

"Nice to meet you," Xiao Lei said as she bowed slightly to An Qiyan.

"Nice to meet you too."

"Is Madam President Du fine?" Xiao Lei asked.

An Qiyan nodded. "She's resting now. My son-in-law is by her side."

"How's the baby?"

"Well... if I don't know better, I wouldn't think that he's a preemie." An Qiyan chuckled.

They then went to stand in front of the glass panel. As Xiao Lei looked at the baby that was kept in an incubator, she gasped. "He looks like he's slightly bigger than my son when he was born."

"Yeah... The birth was relatively smooth as well, at least, it was compared to this little one," An Qiyan said as she adjusted Little Monkey in her arms so that the toddler could see better. "Little Monkey, that's your brother Wyatt. Say hi to him..."

Little Monkey placed her palms on the glass panel as she whispered, "Hiiiii...."

She wanted to bang on the glass panel, but Luo Guangying, who was standing next to An Qiyan, grabbed her little fist and said softly, "Wyatt is sleeping. Don't wake him up, alright, Little Monkey?"

Little Monkey sighed, but she nodded. She figured she would just play with her brother later.

Mo Yuan also looked on with an excited expression as he waved at the baby.

"Where are the twins?" Kai An asked as he looked around. "They were here earlier..."

"They went to be with their parents."

"Shouldn't they spend more time with their newborn brother?"

An Qiyan sighed. "Well, in Jack's word, 'he's a Du boy, he can handle it himself'."

It was obvious that the twins were less worried about their newborn brother than their a.d.u.l.t mother.

"I'll protect Y-At!" Little Monkey said as she looked up at her maternal grandmother.

"Good girl! I can't count on your older brothers for this, so you have to protect Wyatt from them, alright?" An Qiyan smiled while patting Little Monkey's head. She then looked at Kai An and said, "Your Nai Nai called earlier. Your brother-in-law is bringing her back from the States. I'm sure she would want to have a family dinner soon, so make sure that you clear your schedule for the next two weeks."

"Alright... Did Dad call?"

An Qiyan nodded. "He was in a meeting outstation earlier, and he's on the way. He went to buy a gift for Kai Xin and Wyatt as well as to pick up his wife."

Their divorce had been abrupt, and their relationship had been tense for a long time... but their daughter's pain brought them together, and they were now on a friendly basis with each other... for their children, and their grandchildren.

"Where's Erden? I didn't see him earlier. Is he even coming?" Kai An frowned, but his face turned into a monster face when he looked into the glass panel at the sleeping baby, as if the baby could see him.

"He's not coming... He's not really comfortable with hospitals, but he called earlier and said that he would be waiting for Wyatt at home."

"How long is he going to be in NICU?" Xiao Lei asked as she tore her eyes away from the baby and looked at An Qiyan.

An Qiyan answered, "Not long. Maybe a week or two, depending on his condition. Based on his size, Phillip said that they might have gotten the due date wrong. So he would be monitoring Wyatt closely for now."

Xiao Lei nodded. Even though he was a preemie, Wyatt looked nothing like one. In fact, he looked like a normal-sized baby.

....

As he drove Angela Zhang back to his place, Han Ye did not talk much to her, much to her dismay. When they arrived, she watched as he gently slid the car into a tight parking spot outside her condo.

As usual, she reached over to kiss him, but this time, Han Ye stopped her. He looked at her with a guilty expression as he said, "Angie... Let's break up."

"What?"

"I'm sorry... but I don't think we are suitable for each other. This relationship... It's doomed right from the start." Han Ye bowed slightly as he felt that he had done something wrong toward her. No matter what, they had been together for a period of time, and she had done nothing wrong to him.

"Why?" she asked; her voice was slightly hoarse, as if she was about to burst into tears. "What did I do wrong?"

Han Ye shook his head. "No... Let's just end this amicably. We can still be friends after this..."

Angela Zhang's tears started to fall down her cheeks as she looked at Han Ye with a wronged expression. She grabbed his hand gently and asked, "Just tell me what I can do to change..."

Han Ye felt his heart skip a beat when he saw her teary face, and Wu Yuexue's face appeared in his sight again. His heart softened, and he nearly gave in, but then, another face flashed across his eyes.

"Xiao Lei..." Han Ye's eyes widened, and he immediately shook his head while thinking, "Why am I thinking about her?"

Yet images of her walking around him, talking down to him, playing pranks on him... Everything flashed across his eyes at the moment. He did not know what brought this on since he had never felt anything more than friendship for her.

"No..." he thought. "This is a mistake..."

He then looked at Angela Zhang and asked, "Angie..."

"Han Ye..." She looked at him with eyes filled with tears and longing. Over the last few weeks, she had developed true, genuine feelings for him. How could she not? He was so attentive, so good looking, and he always asked her how her day was even though he was busy with work. He was nothing like her old boyfriends, and she did not want to lose him.

"I know this isn't you..." Han Ye said.

"What do you mean?"

Han Ye sighed as he gently pried her hands away from his. "You don't like animals... You prefer to watch romance instead of thriller... You like to go clubbing... and your ex-boyfriend... I know that the separation was not as easy as you described."

"You checked on me?!" Angela Zhang gasped. "Han Ye! Those are not true!"

Han Ye sighed. He did not tell anyone that he sent someone to do a more thorough check on Angela Zhang. He was not stupid... He was just... blinded. Having lost the woman he loved more than life itself, he was willing to overlook everything just to have her back in his life, even if it was for a short moment.

Even if everything was but a moment of illusion, he was willing to accept it if he could have her back again.

"I'm sorry..." Han Ye said as he looked at her. "But this game must end."
