Chapter 185 - Ah, I'm a goner

Ever since she was born, Little Monkey had never been hit by anyone before, so it shocked her a little when Xiao Lei got upset with her and hit her palms. Of course Xiao Lei did not use force, and Little Monkey knew that, but she was still upset by it.

Based on the little pout on her face, it was obvious that she was displeased at how she was being treated by this woman who she barely knew.

Looking at Little Monkey's adorable face, Han Ye could not help but smile at the toddler. He then stood up before saying, "Little Monkey, I'll talk to Auntie Xiao and explain to her that you're just playing with Yuan Yuan, but you need to apologize to her, alright? She must have been hurt when you called her a bad person earlier."

Little Monkey folded her arms and shook her head. "No!"

"Little Monkey, you were wrong here. You shouldn't hit Yuan Yuan," Han Ye explained. "Yuan Yuan must be very sad now..."

"No!"

Han Ye sighed. He thought for a while before snapping his fingers.

"Little Monkey, if I want Mr. Bunny and I want it even though you said no, can I hit you?" Han Ye asked patiently.

Little Monkey thought for a while. When she finally realized where she was wrong at, her lips quivered and she looked up at Han Ye with her bright, round eyes.

"Did Yuan Yuan hit you back?" Han Ye asked again.

Little Monkey shook her head slowly. "No..."

"Do you want to apologize to him?"

It took a while, but she eventually nodded into his chest. She was ashamed of her own action earlier, so she did not want to look at Han Ye or anyone else now.

"Let's go. You can apologize to Yuan Yuan," Han Ye said with a gentle smile. "And to Auntie Xiao as well, alright? Auntie Xiao just wanted you to grow up to be a kind little princess, that's why she disciplined you."

There was a brief moment of hesitation, but eventually, Little Monkey nodded into his chest again.

....

At the dessert shop, Xiao Lei was seating at a corner while she tended to the small cut on Mo Yuan's hand. When Little Monkey pushed him down earlier, Mo Yuan had landed on a small toy with a sharp corner that was lodged in a crack between two cushioned mats. Some kid probably lost it after running around the beautifully decorated playground.

When she placed a bandaid over Mo Yuan's cut, which she had cleaned and disinfected, she said, "Yuan Yuan, don't be angry at Little Monkey, alright? She didn't mean to hurt you."

Mo Yuan nodded. He had stopped crying ever since he saw the colorful cakes on display and that Xiao Lei told him that she would buy him a slice later. "Little Monkey is a good girl."

"Yeah, she's a good girl." Xiao Lei smiled and patted his head.

"Cannot hit her," Mo Yuan said in a small voice as he looked at Xiao Lei who had finished putting on the bandaid for him.

Xiao Lei sighed and nodded. "Yeah, I'm bad. Yuan Yuan is a good boy because you didn't hit her back. Auntie Xiao is too rash in disciplining her."

"Little Monkey is little," Yuan Yuan said with a solemn expression.

Looking at the toddler, Xiao Lei chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, she's younger than you. So you have to take care of her, alright?"

When she saw Mo Yuan looking at injured palm sadly, she asked, "What's wrong? Does it still hurt?"

He shook his head and looked up at her. "I'm a big boy."

He was upset at Little Monkey earlier. She had been mean to him recently. Every time they played together, she always wanted him to join her the games that she wanted to play even though he had no interest in them. And when he did not play with her, she would hit him.

Xiao Lei smiled. She then pointed at the cakes on display and said, "Go pick the cake you want. I'll buy a slice for you since you're such a good and brave boy."

"En!" Mo Yuan smiled brightly as he got down from his chair and ran over to the display. When he got there, Han Ye, Angela Zhang, and Little Monkey arrived.

Mo Yuan stared at Little Monkey and vice versa. Both of them felt awkward at the moment, and they were puffing their little cheeks out like a blowfish as they tried to think of what to say to each other.

Looking at the two of them, Han Ye could not help but laugh softly. He then placed Little Monkey down on the floor and gently patted her butt. "Go," he whispered in her ear to encourage her. No matter what age one was, it was always hard to be the first person to apologize.

Mo Yuan would always apologize first, but Han Ye knew that Little Monkey was wrong this time, so he wanted Little Monkey to learn how to be the bigger girl.

Little Monkey looked at Han Ye, then at her best friend. She then shuffled her feet for a while before slowly walking to Mo Yuan. When she saw the bandaid on Mo Yuan's palm, she pouted and murmured, "Sorry, Yuan Yuan... I'm bad..."

Mo Yuan blinked. He then hugged her and said, "No, no. Little Monkey is not bad..."

He then looked at her before pointing to the cakes. "Want cake?"

Little Monkey nodded shyly, and she let Mo Yuan lead her over to the display. Both of them had their faces pressed against the display as they tried to make their decisions on which cakes they want.

When Xiao Lei walked over, Han Ye smiled at her, only to have her glared and turned away from him.

"Ah, I'm a goner," he thought.

"Ms. Xiao shouldn't have blamed you. That's mean of her," Angela Zhang remarked to him as she took his hand. "Should I talk to her?"

"It's fine." Han Ye waved his hand nonchalantly before pulling his hand away from hers. He then walked to Xiao Lei, who was standing behind the kids as she looked at the cakes.

Bending over slightly, he then whispered in her ear, "I'll buy you any desserts you want."

Without even looking at him, she scoffed, "Don't try to buy over my heart with desserts."

"I'm sorry."

When she heard the apology, she looked up at him. "For what?"

"For thinking that you were wrong when you were just disciplining her. I talked to Little Monkey, and she said that you didn't really hurt her."

She frowned and put on an indignant expression as she snarled at him.

"Of course I didn't! She's a baby!"

Han Ye smiled. "Yeah, I should know better..."

Xiao Lei stared at him for a few seconds before turning back to the cakes. She then said in a soft voice, "But I guess I shouldn't have hit her. She's not my kid, after all."

Han Ye shook his head. "It's fine. If Madam President Du is here, she wouldn't mind it as well. Little Monkey is the apple of our eyes, so no one would actually discipline her. At most, Madam President Du would just give her a light scolding. So what you did was actually beneficial."

Xiao Lei sighed. "I wouldn't have hit her if she merely hit Yuan Yuan. But she hit him, and when he did not respond, she pushed him down and grabbed the toy sword that fell from his hand without even caring for his wellbeing. And when I tried to talk nicely to her, she shouted at me."

She looked at the two toddlers who were now holding hands and said softly, "That's not a good thing for kids to do. I know that kids can get rough sometimes, but there should be a limit to what to allow."

She then shrugged and turned to look at Han Ye. "I know that she's only 2 years old, but if we don't stop this kind of behavior now, it would be harder to stop it in the future."

Han Ye agreed. Everyone wanted to spoil Little Monkey, but no one would want her to grow up warped and entitled. "I thank you on behalf of Madam President Du."

Xiao Lei raised an eyebrow at him. "You kept mentioning Madam President Du... What about President Du? He won't hurt me, would he?"

Han Ye laughed softly and gently poked her in the arm. "Should have thought about that before you even raised a finger at his precious daughter."

Xiao Lei shuddered. She then murmured nervously, "I'm not regretting my action or anything... but..."

"It's fine. I'm just joking with you," Han Ye said with a smirk. "If President Du dares to do anything to you, his wife would punish him. Don't worry about him."
