Chapter 145 - Du Mansion Party (11)

Han Ye felt his heart skip a beat as the woman slowly made her way toward him, to the point that he did not even realize she was already standing in front of him.

He wasn't the only one. A lot of men at the party had their eyes on the same woman. Even some women had their eyes on her.

Especially those women from earlier as well as Kai Xin, the Nakamura sisters, and Angela Zhang.

"Who is that woman that my baby Caleb is leading out?" Kai Xin murmured as she watched the woman who had stolen almost everyone's glances. She had never seen her around before, and she was curious as to who the woman was.

The handsome man sitting opposite her smirked as he glanced at the boy who was walking straight as he led the woman toward where DX and Han Ye were. "My son is doing well for his age..."

"Carrot!" Little Monkey pointed out. Her father passed her over to her mother earlier because she was complaining about being bored. "Carrot! Mummy, Carrot!" she said loudly as she pointed the boy. She wanted to walk to the boy, but her mother stopped her.

Kai Xin adjusted her hold on her little daughter who kept trying to squirm out of her grasp. "No, honey. He's being a gentleman now. Caleb would be here later. Let us sit and watch..."

"Wuu... Carrot..." Little Monkey pouted as she looked at the boy. She wanted to run off to play with "Carrot" who was closer to her age. However, she stopped making noise when Rin Nakamura handed her a small paper cup filled with blueberries.

"Xiao Xiao Lei..." Angela Zhang frowned when she saw how Han Ye was looking at Xiao Lei.

Xiao Lei gulped nervously. She hated all the attention, and Caleb could feel it. He looked up at her and said, "Back straight and keep walking. You're my date now. Just fake it till you make it."

Looking down at him, Xiao Lei smiled. She took a deep breath as they continued to walk toward Han Ye and DX.

Jun Ling had helped her redo her makeup as well as her hair. When Xiao Lei saw her own reflection in a mirror earlier, she could barely recognize herself. At that moment, she was Fan Wushuang, the precious heir of Fan Lei.

"Uncle Du, Mr. Han," Caleb greeted them with a smile before nodding at the rest of the men that DX and Han Ye were talking about.

DX gave Caleb one of his rare smiles as he got down on one knee to look at the boy. "Good boy, Caleb. Sorry I can't meet you and your dad at the foyer earlier. I was a little busy."

Caleb shook his head and smiled. "It's fine."

He hugged DX for a few seconds before letting go. "I miss you."

"I miss you too..." DX signed, causing Caleb to smile even wider in response. "Go say hi to your aunt before running off."

Caleb nodded and signed in reply, "I'll pass Sister Xiao Lei to you and Han Ye."

He then looked up at Han Ye, whose lips were slightly parted as he continued to stare at Xiao Lei. Caleb then patted Han Ye's hand, causing the man to break out from his trance. When Han Ye looked down at him, Caleb said, "I brought your secretary over, so you owe me one."

Before Han Ye could register anything, Caleb looked at Xiao Lei, and as he pointed toward his father with his chin, he said, "I'll be over there... or the gaming room. In case you need me again."

Xiao Lei nodded and watched as the boy ran off. She then looked at Han Ye, who was back at staring at her, and frowned. "What? Am I ugly?"

Han Ye blinked for a few seconds before shaking his head. "No, no. Just... I'm just a little surprised."

"Back at work," DX interrupted them. He glanced at Xiao Lei and said, "Now that you're here, do your job properly. Listen to what we are going to say properly and write a minute later."

Xiao Lei nodded. "Yes, President Du. Sorry for the delay."

She tried her best not to limp earlier, and it was taking a toll on her. Now that she could stand still instead of walking around, she could not help but sigh in relief.

"Han Ye!"

DX's sharp tone caused Han Ye to wake up completely. The latter immediately turned to look at his boss.

"Don't be such a disgrace!" DX snapped as he glared at his personal assistant.

Han Ye blushed and immediately nodded. He then cleared his throat before picking up from where he left off earlier. "I'm sorry, but as per what I was saying earlier, we have received quite a lot of bid items that we could exhibit and auction of. Based on what our team of valuers said, the total amount that we could get from this charity event will be at least $30 million."

Xiao Lei listened intently while they talked about the charity event. Occasionally, Han Ye would ask her questions and her opinions. Even though she was taken aback at first, but she managed to hold her own grounds.

"So, Miss Xiao, if it were you, where would you spend this money on?" asked one of the female directors.

Xiao Lei thought for a while. She had something in mind, but she was unsure if it was appropriate. When she glanced at Han Ye, he nodded.

"Just speak your mind here, Xiao Lei," DX said when he noticed her hesitation. "This is an informal discussion. As long as you're not wasting our time, you don't have to worry about voicing your opinion."

Xiao Lei nodded. She then turned to the female director who asked her the question. With a polite smile, she replied, "I think we should build educational community centers for underprivileged kids."

"Oh, and why so?"

"There are already a lot of orphanages in our country, but not a lot of community centers for kids to hang out with. I know we care about orphans, but what about those children who have families but are living in a worse off state than orphans?

"There are a lot of families who are earning above the poverty line but not enough to provide a comfortable environment for their children. There are also families who despite feeding and clothing their children, did nothing else to help their children, and some that they just neglect their children or use their children to get welfare money.

"And these children, without anywhere they can belong to, tend to be easily influenced by a.d.u.l.ts who might use them as drug mules or something else. If we can have more community centers where they can learn new skills and play with kids their age, then we can change their fate."

"Community centers will benefit these children, as well as the orphans, so it's not a bad idea," DX mumbled. He looked at Han Ye and asked, "Make a proposal for this to be presented to the board during the next BOD meeting."

"Yes, sir," Han Ye said seriously.

Xiao Lei glanced at Han Ye who smiled back in return as he whispered, "Good job."
