Chapter 117 - Honest, trustworthy face

Xiao Lei, Lu Ziyan, and An Xin went to a restaurant near Du Corporation that was famous for their western food. While they were looking at the menu, Lu Ziyan kept glancing at An Xin.

"Is she wearing thicker make-up today? It's not like her to wear blusher on a workday," he thought as he looked at her cheeks that were obviously red from makeup.

Meanwhile, An Xin kept her head down the whole time even though she could feel his eyes burning into her head. The journey to the restaurant earlier was a little awkward as she kept distancing herself from him. When they were entering the car, she chose to sit in the front alone even though Xiao Lei offered to sit in the front, and she only voluntarily talked to Xiao Lei.

Whenever Lu Ziyan tried to talk to her, she would reply with a short answer as if she found him annoying.

After a while of perusing through the menu, Xiao Lei smiled and it down menu. "I've thought about what I want."

"The whole menu?" Lu Ziyan joked.

Xiao Lei shrugged. "I'd like to, but-"

"I'll pay for this," he said with a smile. He knew about her worry, and it wasn't like he was poor or anything. Other than Tian Le, he barely had any expenses to account for. "Just order whatever you want. The whole menu if you want."

Hearing that she would be getting a free dinner tonight, she smiled brightly. "Nah... I'm older than you, so I shouldn't bully you. Since Manager Zhen is here, I'll let you off today."

An Xin smiled slightly as she said, "Just call me An Xin outside of work."

"Oh. You can call me Xiao Lei then."

Once they placed their orders, Xiao Lei looked at An Xin and said, "You know, you barely smiled in the office and you were so professional that I thought of you as scary when the HR manager introduced you to me earlier."

An Xin smiled as she took a sip from her glass of water. She then said, "It's office. It's only natural to be professional."

"I see. I have never worked in an office before, so I'm not sure about the common office courtesy. I've been there for six hours, and I saw my boss for less than 15 minutes..." Xiao Lei sighed. The office setting in dramas was completely different from a real office.

An Xin chuckled. "It's normal. President Du is always out meeting clients and business partners, and as his assistant, Mr. Han will naturally follow him everywhere."

"He's your brother-in-law. Why not just call him by his name?" Lu Ziyan said as he drank his glass of Coke.

"President Du is your brother-in-law?" Xiao Lei gasped. She met him briefly earlier, and even though she squealed inwardly when she saw his handsome face, she also shivered slightly when he glared at her for no reason. At that time, it confirmed her suspicion -- he was indeed a tyrant!

An Xin looked at Lu Ziyan briefly before she answered Xiao Lei. "It's not a big secret. Everyone knows it. And yeah, President Du is my brother-in-law."

"Wait... Shouldn't you be a director or something then?" Xiao Lei asked. "You know... Nepotism and such."

An Xin smiled. "Even if he wants to promote me, I won't take it unless I'm sure I can do it."

"An Xin prefers to earn her rank," Lu Ziyan added as he kept an eye on the woman, which caused the woman to avert her gaze.

"An Xin, you're really cool... If it's me, I'll just ask for an easy position," Xiao Lei said proudly.

"There's no such thing as an easy position," the other woman replied with a smile.

"There is! Ziyan stays at home most of the day and he decides on when to go to office."

"That's cause he's great at what he does."

"Oh, so you think I'm pretty great?" Lu Ziyan teased her with a smile.

An Xin looked up at his face, and when she saw his smile, she could not help but blush, thus making her cheeks even redder than before. "I think you're great with computers."

"I'm great at a lot of things."

Xiao Lei snickered. "Except gaming. He sucks at it."

Lu Ziyan groaned. "Hey... Come on! I'm treating you tonight, you know?"

"That's true." Xiao Lei nodded. She thought for a moment before looking at An Xin. "Ok, fine. He's pretty good at Minesweeper."

With a sigh, Lu Ziyan said, "Urgh... I'm going to the toilet. Excuse me."

An Xin watched as the man wheeled himself toward the male restroom. With shifty eyes, she hesitated for a moment before she asked Xiao Lei, "Xiao Lei... Are you and Ziyan... you know?"

"Huh?" Xiao Lei looked at her and shook her head. "No! He's my neighbor."

An Xin wanted to sigh in relief, but she stopped herself. Instead, she pretended as if she were just a nosy person. "Oh... So that makes Mr. Han your neighbor too."

"Yeah... I have to see my boss all the time, and I can't slack off at work because he knows where I live. I think my future days are outnumbered," Xiao Lei joked and threw her hands up in an exaggerated manner.

"Han Ye is a good boss. He's kind to everyone and very understanding too. At least, it will be better for you to work for him instead of working for President Du."

"Maybe..." Xiao Lei nodded. "I've had some bad bosses in the past. At least, with Han Ye, I know that he won't try anything inappropriate."

An Xin thought for a moment before she asked, "Xiao Lei, have you known Han Ye for a long time?"

"Erm..." Xiao Lei thought for a while before she lied, "about a week or so?"

An Xin chuckled. "You sounded like you have known him for a very long time."

"Oh... Erm, that's cause he has those honest, trustworthy face..." The older woman chuckled nervously as she picked up her glass of chocolate milkshake.

Once Lu Ziyan returned, their orders arrived. As they were eating, Xiao Lei suddenly said, "Oh yeah, An Xin, Ziyan said you're married."

"Pfft!" Lu Ziyan suddenly choked on a piece of steak. When Xiao Lei reached over to pat his back, he hissed, "Xiao Lei!"

To his annoyance, the woman ignored him and merely pretended that nothing was wrong.

"Erm... Yeah... I was," An Xin replied after a while.

Lu Ziyan's head whipped so fast that Xiao Lei thought he would get whiplash from it. With a surprised expression, he asked, "You... Was?"

An Xin's hands that were holding a knife and a fork stopped in mid-air before she replied, "Yeah..."

As she looked at Lu Ziyan who had put his cutleries down and An Xin who kept her head low as if she felt embarrassed, Xiao Lei thought, "I thought so... I wonder if Ziyan will do anything now. He looks like he likes her."

"When?" Lu Ziyan asked, completely forgetting that there was a third person at the table with them.

When An Xin did not reply, Xiao Lei felt that this was something private. Therefore, she quickly stuffed a few bites of steak into her mouth before she said, "I mave tu gu toiflet."
