Chapter 113 - Ok, future boss!

After Han Ye hung up the call, he finished eating his dinner with Xiao Lei and helped her clean up.

"So, I'll see you at the office tomorrow? 1 pm," he said as he walked to the door.

She nodded, and with a grin, she saluted him. "Ok, future boss!"

Her cheekiness caused him to laugh, and he had an urge to reach over and pat her on the head, but knowing that she did not like to be treated as a child, he stopped himself.

Once Han Ye went back to his unit, as expected, Lu Ziyan was watching TV in the living room while his fingers tapped rhythmically on the laptop that was resting on his thighs.

"Hey, I'm back... Have you eaten?" Han Ye asked as he walked into the house. As he threw his jacket on the couch, he murmured, "Gosh, I'm stuffed."

"You know the drill..." Lu Ziyan said without even looking at Han Ye.

Han Ye rolled his eyes at him before he sat down on the couch. He then told Lu Ziyan everything he found out about Angela Zhang and what he intended to do.

After he listened to Han Ye's idea, Lu Ziyan kept quiet for a long time before he said, "You do you."

"You don't think it's a good idea."

Lu Ziyan shrugged. "I just don't want you to get disappointed, but again, it's your life..."

Han Ye leaned back against the couch with his eyes closed. "I'm an a.d.u.l.t; I can handle it."

"Fine... Anyway, as promised, " Lu Ziyan switched on his laptop and said, "I did some background check on Murong Yu. Everything checks out. He was an orphan and was adopted by an Asian-American family when he was 16 years old. And everything was according to what he put in his resume. I called the law firm that he worked in previously and pretended to be an employer checking on a potential applicant's work background. According to the few people I talked to, Murong Yu was hardworking and dedicated to his job. Also, he was involved in multiple charity works and often worked pro-bono."

He droned on and ended it by saying, "He returned roughly a year ago, and not long later, he was hired and has been working as an English teacher at Imperial Secondary."

Han Ye leaned forward to take a look at the laptop screen and frowned. "So, there's nothing wrong with him? He's just a guy who coincidentally looks like and has the same name as the gang leader Murong Yu?"

Lu Ziyan nodded. "It seems like it, and it's not like it's so rare that such an occasion is unheard of... but..."

"But?" Han Ye asked when he heard the uncertainty in Lu Ziyan's "but".

"I hacked into the database of the orphanage that he lived in previously. Apparently, someone set fire to that orphanage not long after he left. So, I hacked into the police database. Thank god for digitalization! Anyway, according to the report from the arson officer, the fire started from the file room and unfortunately, everything from the file room was destroyed including all the information about the children who stayed there up until the fire happened. In addition," Lu Ziyan pulled up a photo of a few a.d.u.l.ts and said, "The caretakers at that time had all passed away. Some passed away because of natural causes, and others? Inexplicable accidents."

Han Ye frowned. He took the laptop over from Lu Ziyan as he read through the news report of those who passed away in accidents. Fell off the stairs, accidental electrocution, motor vehicle accident...

Meanwhile, Lu Ziyan wheeled himself back into his room to pick up something that he just printed. While he picked up the papers and wheeled himself back, he said, "I'm not sure if this is a coincidence. It might be a freaky coincidence, or it might be someone's plan. We won't know until we talk to someone from that time."

When he was back in the living room, Lu Ziyan passed the three pieces of papers with the passport-sized photos of three individuals and said, "These are the people who stayed at that orphanage back then. They were around 10-15 years old back then, so they should have some memories of Murong Yu. And are three of them are living in Imperial City at the moment. Maybe we can find out something if we can talk to him."

As Han Ye read through their details, he nodded. "I'll do it."

"Shouldn't you send this to the two guys? You know, the ones who are supposed to handle this case," Lu Ziyan asked.

Without looking up from the papers, he replied, "Guangying called me earlier. Apparently, Callum has just been diagnosed with food poisoning, and he's in the hospital now. According to him, it seems to be quite serious and they won't be back in Imperial for a few days. So, he asked me to take care of everything for now."

"Is Callum alright?"

Han Ye looked up and nodded. "Won't die, but he'll suffer for a while."

He then added, "Oh yeah, Xiao Lei is coming to work at Du Corporation starting tomorrow. She doesn't have any formal clothes, so I told her that she can come in at 1 p.m. Since you're coming to the office tomorrow, do you mind if she tags along?"

"No, she's pretty chill."

"Cool, cause I already told her that she can follow you." Han Ye grinned.

Lu Ziyan rolled his eyes at Han Ye before he added, "I'll send her a message later. I'm not going into  K Holdings 1  tomorrow morning, so I can go shopping with her."

"You want to go shopping? Don't you usually shop online?"

Lu Ziyan shrugged and explained, "Well, that's cause I don't have anyone to shop with. Since she's going to the mall, I might as well tag along and get some fresh air. I've been stuck at home, office, and AVENGE for the past few days. I need a new view. Besides, I want to go there and see if there's anything I can buy."
