Chapter 103 - Not so early, Murong Yu

The next morning, Xiao Lei and Han Ye sat in Han Ye's car outside the sandwich shop as they waited for Murong Yu to appear. In case that this Murong Yu was the same Murong Yu that she knew, Xiao Lei had a cap on to avoid being seen... which was ridiculous, because she was in a fully tinted car.

Xiao Lei yawned as she kept an eye at the school gate. In her hand was a pack of fried noodles. She was so sleepy, but she was also too hungry and worried to sleep. The moment the sun was out, Xiao Lei called Han Ye and told him that they should go to the school earlier.

She was too nervous to eat earlier. But when they were waiting, her hunger took over and her stomach started to protest... loudly. In the end, Han Ye went down to get some breakfast for her.

"Did you even sleep last night?" Han Ye asked while she yawned again.

With sleepy-looking eyes, Xiao Lei sighed. "How can I sleep when my son might be in danger?"

"But you can still eat?" Han Ye wanted to ask and tease her, but in the end, he swallowed his words down.

As he watched her eat and yawn, he smiled. He knew that as a mother, the most important person in her life was her son. His mother was the same as well.

After a while, he said, "You're a good mother."

When Xiao Lei heard him, she choked on a piece of meat and covered her mouth. When Han Ye tried to pat her back, she pushed his hand away and blushed slightly before she looked away. "I'm fine..."

"Are you sure he's coming?" Xiao Lei asked as she looked at the car digital clock. It was 9.58 am.

Han Ye shrugged and glanced at the gate. "I'm not sure, but according to the information that the informant managed to gather, that has been his schedule for the past few weeks. We still have 2 minutes."

Right at 10 am, they saw their target cycling out of one of Imperial Secondary's smaller gates. He was wearing a white work shirt, a tie, and a black slack. A lanyard hung around his neck that he used to go in and out of the school.

When Xiao Lei saw him, she gasped and placed a hand on her chest nervously. However, when he cycled past their car, she felt something was wrong. She narrowed her eyes as she watched him parked the bike outside the shop before he went in.

When he walked out 5 minutes later with a packed sandwich in his hand, she frowned. She did not take her eyes off him until he cycled back into the school.

She then leaned back against the chair and thought hard. After a few seconds, she shook her head. "That looks like the Murong Yu, and I want to say that it's him... but... the feeling is not there."

"What?" Han Ye asked. He was confused by her words.

Xiao Lei thought for a moment before she said, "When I was in his gang, Murong Yu gave off a certain vibe... and silly as it may be, it was the vibe that made me want to punch him... Also, he's not as short as that guy there. The Murong Yu that I knew, he was at least a head taller than me, but that guy we just saw. Even though I can't say for sure, but he's at most... 2 to 3 inches taller."

She looked at Han Ye and said seriously, "I don't think Murong Yu would shrink at his current age."

Before Han Ye could get a word in, she shook her head and said, "No, despite the similarity, that man is not the same Murong Yu that I knew."

"So, just a weird coincidence," Han Ye stated as he watched man went back into the school's compound.

"It feels like it..." she murmured but she could not keep frowning. "Do you have the man's information?"

Han Ye nodded. He told her everything about the teacher Murong Yu.

"Ha!" Xiao Lei snapped her fingers. "That can't be the Murong Yu that I know then. For one, the timeline doesn't match. When this teacher was in university, I was in Murong Yu's gang and I spent most days with him. And you said that this teacher was a lawyer?"

When Han Ye affirmed it, she laughed wryly and said, "The Murong Yu that I know couldn't care less about anyone enough to defend them."

....

Back in Murong Yu's office, a man dressed in a white work shirt, a tie, and a black slack was bending over a table with a frown that seemed to be permanently etched to his forehead.

"Are these really the children of elites? What the f*ck is wrong with their work?!"

Murong Yu was grumbling as he marked the papers when someone knocked triple long-twice short knocks on his door. He knew who that was, so he went to unlock the door. As he walked back to his seat, he murmured, "Come in and lock the damn door."

A man walked in with a packed sandwich and threw the sandwich back at Murong Yu, who caught it quickly. The man then quickly locked the door behind him before he said, "The car was still there when I left the sandwich shop."

"Luckily I noticed the man earlier," Murong Yu said as he took a bite of the sandwich. Ever since he started working at the school, he had been making friends with the school security guards. He would be going to the sandwich shop every day, and every time he passed by the gate, he would talk to the guard who was guarding the gate.

Today, when he went down and talked to the guard, the guard told him that there was a weird car that was parked near the gate since 7 am. The guard felt that it was weird because he had never seen the car before, and it was fully tinted, which caused him to be worried that it might be someone with ill-intention.

Murong Yu would not have thought much of it if he did not see the man coming down from the car. That man in the car probably went to use the toilet because he returned back into the car 5 minutes later.

The guard was quite talkative, and he told Murong Yu that ever since the accident a few years back, the school placed even more security cameras outside the school. Not only in quantity, but they also upgraded the camera.

When the car driver returned, Murong Yu noticed that he was holding a red plastic bag filled with something. He then asked the guard to rewind and zoom in "in case it was a weapon".

"Looks like food," the guard murmured as he looked at the recording. "Two packets."

Murong Yu did not know who the driver was, but just in case, he told the guard that he left something back in his office. He then ran back to his office and locked the door.

Thankfully, since he wasn't feeling too good since morning, he had called the man, who was currently sitting opposite him, to replace him in class. So, when he got back to his locked office, he told the man what he saw earlier.

Murong Yu then sent the man down instead of going to the sandwich shop by himself.

The man opposite Murong Yu smirked, "Murong Yu, aren't you going to stop playing games?"

When he heard the man mentioned the name "Murong Yu", Murong Yu leaned back and with a complicated expression on his face, he said, "Not so early, Murong Yu. I'll play until the end of my life."
